The award-winning Idea franchise from Adams Golf just got bigger and better with the introduction of the new Idea Pro a12 hybrids and forged iron sets. Engineered to meet the standards of better players, the premium hybrids deliver tour-preferred launch conditions, enhanced playability and a sleek black finish. The superior forged iron set (4-GW) produces exceptional feel and performance on every shot with precisely located centers of gravity and ultra thin faces born from a triple milling process.

Idea Pro a12 Hybrids

With its Idea hybrids ranking as the most-played on the PGA, Champions and Nationwide Tours, Adams Golf engineers were challenged to design an innovative hybrid that would set a new standard in design and playability for the world’s greatest players. The result is the Idea Pro a12 hybrid–with the sleek tour-proven shaping of a compact head for better shot making and a dark finish to help reduce glare. The ultra-thin, maraging steel face produces higher ball speeds and tour preferred ball flights. The sole of the a12 hybrid has also been optimized with a steel skid plate and a flush-mounted weight screw that reduces the amount of turf interaction for enhanced playability. Available individually in five different lofts ranging from 16 degrees to 26 degrees, each hybrid is progressively sized for ideal performance, allowing for easy integration into each player’s bag.

Thousands of Idea hybrids have been put into play on tour since their introduction in 2003 and the Pro a12 is already in the bags of several players, including Adams Golf staff members Tom Watson and Ryan Moore. An Idea Pro a12 hybrid was also in the bag of the winner of the 2011 Heritage tournament.

Consumers have a choice of stock shafts for the Idea Pro a12 hybrid: the Aldila RIP VS Proto (80-gram) or the Matrix Ozik Altus (90-gram). The stock grip is the Golf Pride New Decade MultiCompound in black and white. All clubs are available right- and left-handed in regular, stiff and x-stiff flexes. The Idea Pro a12 hybrids begin shipping to golf shops May 5 with a suggested retail price (SRP) of $299.99.

Idea Pro a12 Forged Irons (4-GW)

The traditionally forged 8620 carbon steel head construction of the Idea Pro a12 iron set provides outstanding control, performance and feedback for the lower-handicap golfer and appeals to better players with a thin top line and improved camber on the sole. Each head is triple milled (on the face, grooves and cavity) for more exacting performance from club to club. A precisely located low center of gravity and progressive heel to toe weighting provides added stability in the long irons and more workability in the short irons and wedges. The progressive offset through the entire set offers better players superior control and workability of their ball flight.

The stock shaft for the Idea Pro a12 irons is the KBS Tour steel shaft and the stock grip is the Golf Pride New Decade MultiCompound in black and white. The irons sets are available right-handed in regular, stiff and x-stiff flexes and begin shipping to golf shops May 5 with a SRP of $1,099.99 for graphite and $899.99 for steel.

“Both the Pro a12 hybrids and irons are off to a wonderful start on tour,” said Chip Brewer, Adams Golf president and CEO. “The Pro a12 hybrid has been our most successful hybrid since the original Idea Pro and the irons are already in Tom Watson’s bag—and he’s been talking them up to his peers. We are excited to finally have the Pro a12 series available to our worldwide audience and brand advocates at large.”

Just picked these irons up, after having my last set for 13 years! I tried everything on the shelves and am extremely happy with these irons. I never would have thought to try Adams, but wanted to give them a try. Naturally tried the titleist, taylors, etc, but ended up on these. These clubs at address are the nicest looking irons out there. They are very traditional looking, almost like a blade, and very forgiving. I need to work the ball and these give you that option, while after most shots leave you wondering if you just hit a ball!!, THEY FEEL AMAZING! The KBS shafts as a stock option are unbeatable, and the grips finish it off perfectly. The launch is perfect, no ballooning, and the spin generated with these is extremely controllable. The gap wedge option is great also, one extra wedge is never denied in my bag. All said and done, I tried all irons and just couldn’t settle, these are the most underrated irons out there, and can’t wait to get out again..

Just got these irons, took the plastic off of the heads on the driving range, had no idea what to expect. WOW!!! I have played Mizuno for the past 10 years, most recently the MP53’s. These clubs are awesome. The KBS shafts are weighted so well that you can really feel the head weight which gives you the feel of squaring the head through impact. Toe misses were not extremely penalizing and oddly enough, I hit two slightly heavy iron shots on dormant fairway turf that carried well and still landed on the green. I can’t believe that I waited so long to give Adams forged a try.

Inside Collin Morikawa’s recent golf ball, driver, 3-wood, and “Proto” iron changes

Published

on

As you probably know by now, Collin Morikawa switched putters after the first round of The Masters, and he ultimately went on to finish T3.

The putter was far from the only change he made last week, however, and his bag is continuing to change this week at the 2024 RBC Heritage.

On the range of The Masters, Morikawa worked closely with Adrian Reitveld, TaylorMade’s Senior Manager of Tour at TaylorMade, to find the perfect driver and 3-wood setups.

Morikawa started off 2024 by switching into TaylorMade’s Qi10 Max driver, but since went back to his faithful TaylorMade SIM – yes, the original SIM from 2020. Somehow, some way, it seems Morikawa always ends up back in that driver, which he used to win the 2020 PGA Championship, and the 2021 Open Championship.

At The Masters, however, Rietveld said the duo found the driver head that allowed “zero compromise” on Morikawa’s preferred fade flight and spin. To match his preferences, they landed on a TaylorMade Qi10 LS 9-degree head, and the lie angle is a touch flatter than his former SIM.

“It’s faster than his gamer, and I think what we found is it fits his desired shot shape, with zero compromise” Rietveld told GolfWRX.com on Wednesday at the RBC Heritage.

Then, to replace his former SIM rocket 3-wood, Morikawa decided to switch into the TaylorMade Qi10 core model 13.5-degree rocket head, with an adjustable hosel.

“He likes the spin characteristics of that head,” Rietveld said. “Now he’s interesting because with Collin, you can turn up at a tournament, and you look at his 3-wood, and he’s changed the setting. One day there’s more loft on it, one day there’s less loft on it. He’s that type of guy. He’s not scared to use the adjustability of the club.

“And I think he felt our titanium head didn’t spin as low as his original SIM. So we did some work with the other head, just because he liked the feel of it. It was a little high launching, so we fit him into something with less loft. It’s a naughty little piece of equipment.”

In addition to the driver and fairway wood changes, Morikawa also debuted his new “MySymbol” jersey No. 5 TP5x golf ball at The Masters. Morikawa’s choice of symbols is likely tied to his love of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team.

Not enough changes for you? There’s one more.

On Wednesday at the 2024 RBC Heritage, Morikawa was spotted with a new TaylorMade “Proto” 4-iron in the bag. If you recall, it’s the same model that Rory McIlroy debuted at the 2024 Valero Texas Open.

According to Morikawa, the new Proto 4-iron will replace his old P-770 hollow-bodied 4-iron.

“I used to hit my P-770 on a string, but sometimes the distance would be a little unpredictable,” Morikawa told GolfWRX.com. “This one launches a touch higher, and I feel I can predict the distance better. I know Rory replaced his P-760 with it. I’m liking it so far.”
