Published

on

The GolfWRX forums exist so golfers have access to the latest equipment releases, hottest discussions, real equipment reviews, best instruction, new technologies and everything golf you can imagine. So if you love golf, the GolfWRX forums are your sanctuary.

In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz. Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary.

The worst golf trophies

Safeway Open - Final Round

Oh, man. If there were ever a “picture is worth 1,000 words” thread on GolfWRX, it’d be this one. Filling the Tiger Woods-sized hole in the golf mediascape after the Safeway Open were questions like, “Why is Brendan Steele shotgunning a barrel of wine? Oh wait, that’s the trophy…” The Napa-appropriate trophy gave way to a discussion of the most curious rewards for superlative play in professional golf… and boy are they curious.

Check out the trophies.

Many paths to the wedge setup summit

Lofts. Gapping. Two? Three? Four? What’s your wedge lineup look like? Same brands? User Boller (maybe it should be “Wedger”) started a thread devoted to the much-discussed topic. Check out the thread to see what WRXers prefer outside of the Tiger Woods’ standard of 56-degree, 60-degree.

How long do you stick with new irons if they aren’t performing?

Callaway_Apex_irons_PW_comparison_address

In the never-ending quest for improvement at this maddening game, we, among other things, buy equipment we think will perform better than what’s currently in our bags. Sometimes, however, things don’t work out as planned and a new driver or putter doesn’t bring us closer to breaking Jack Nicklaus’ major record. How long is it worth sticking with equipment in general, new irons in particular, ufcdad asks in this thread.

Check out the replies.

Phil: Phriend or Phoney?

post-129810-0-70313200-1476637814

I’m reminded of a Joe Posnanski article from a couple of years ago about the essence of Phil Mickelson, or more specifically, divided fan sentiment toward the left-hander. Posnanski, in a series of anecdotes, begged the question of whether, what we’ll broadly call “Phil’s good guy” behavior, struck readers as evidence that he is indeed a good guy or a mere performance. [Note: You should read the article, not just my poor summary] User Pzero opened the same can of works with a picture of Mickelson signing autographs in the rain at last week’s Safeway Open.

Check out the takes from Mickelson supporters and detractors.

A defense of Ian Poulter

Ian-Poulter-Manscaping-Featured-

An even more love-him-or-hate-him figure than Mr. Mickelson, Ian James Poulter has been rubbing people the wrong way, including former PGA of America president, Ted Bishop, for years. But lest we forget amid an onslaught of tweets and tartan pants, Poulter took a unique route to PGA stardom, and one that’s eminently admirable. Christosterone (great name) recapped Poulter’s early years. If it’s not a story you know, check it out.

There’s no such thing as “worst golf trophies”! Unlike those participation that you were given for showing up, golf trophies are not given out but rather earned. Some may be better looking then others but a win’s a win and to the winner goes the spoils (trophy).

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
