WRXers needed for a pair of golf ball tests

post-1164-0-52208700-1470418665

Would you like to test a golf ball with a hollow metal core? Sure you would. OnCore Golf is looking for a few club-swinging men (or women) to review their innovative offerings. To find out how to be considered as a tester, check out the thread.

post-8942-0-66629100-1470086274A second golf ball test, this time for Srixon’s Soft Feel 2-piece balls. If you’d like a shot at testing Srixon’s offering, find you what you need to do by taking a gander at the thread.

If you could only have one wedge…

jswedge

A great question from a WRXer with an equally great username, RecidivistGOLFER: “Is there a single wedge that you would use for approaches, sand, thick rough, pitching and lob shots?

I ask because I’m currently gaming 13 clubs and I think it’s too many. I’m trying to force myself to master fewer clubs and get better with each individually.  I’m thinking a 54 or 56 with a good amount of bounce. Any thoughts?”

Rather shoot 13-under 59 or 12-under 58?

JimFurykshoots58

Jim Furyk’s PGA Tour record 58 last week has inspired a heated debate in the golf space. And like most significant discussions, this one has both been:

  • Weighed in on in incendiary fashion by Brandel Chamblee
  • The recipient of a dedicated thread in the GolfWRX forums.

So which is better? Which would you prefer? Does it matter?

Weigh in and see what the rest of the community has to say.

Golf is hard game: always has been. As the years went on power brokers of the day decided on how many shots equal par and so on until we got 72 strokes…some of the greatest courses in the world are not par 72. PAR is a subjective entity: the USGA changes par all the time in the US Open. Par is what YOU want it to be.

I have played a par 75 course that was 6100 yards. In fact, when Ouimet won the Open, Brookline was par 73.

In my area, a PGA tour course of it’s day is par 68( with the likes of Hogan, Snead, playing), another challenging Robert Trent Jones course is par 63 ( where there are 4 par fours over 400 and two 5 pars over 520 and LONG par 3’s. This is one fabulous golf course.

Today the USGA accounts for DISTANCE as a measure of par, by what scratch golfers would make on the hole: but all scratch golfers are not the same.

What if par was 90 on a course? Would you play it? My thinking is yes, why not? Golf is not a game about what other think of you, it is what you think about yourself.

    I’d be happy to break 90, so I don’t think I’m going to be too picky between a 58 and a 59.

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
