Swinging with one arm, in agony, Beau Hossler lifts Texas to NCAA finals

Published

on

Incredible stuff from University of Texas junior Beau Hossler.

Battling Andrew Levitt of USC in its NCAA semifinal match at Eugene Country Club, Hossler also fought through what looked to be an incredibly painful left shoulder injury, which restricted him from making a full golf swing.

Hossler first injured the shoulder on his approach shot to the 15th green and, from the looks of it, didn’t play a shot without severe pain from that point on in the match. Texas’ one-man was hurting so bad, he putted out of a bunker at the 17th hole, rather than trying to make a swing, eventually beating Levitt 2 and 1.

The match highlights are about as gruesome as it gets in golf. Hossler’s cringe-inducing stretch starts at the 2:30 mark in this Golf Channel video.

Golf Channel’s Steve Burkowski asked Hossler if he thought about quitting.

“Obviously I didn’t want to hurt myself, but at the same time this was the national championship. This was the goal … the first day I stepped on campus at Texas was to win a national championship with my team. Sometimes you’ve got to sacrifice a little to do that. Fortunately, I was able to finish strong there.”

Whether there’s any possibility of Hossler playing his finals match against Oregon’s Zach Foushee remains to be seen. The pair are slated to go off at 2:30 p.m. West Coast time.

Grit, determination, heart, mettle. Call it what you will, the 21-year-old’s finish was impressive.

    1) Why on earth would he fake it for “poor play”? I believe he was 2up at the time.

    2) It’s not a rotator cuff injury. His left shoulder joint was subluxing on his follow-through.

    Man, tough crowd here.

This was over the top drama rama stuff. Come on, if you really blew out your rotator he would not be able to lift his arm over his head. His swing was not feeling right and he used the old Tiger Woods move of faking an injury to make an excuse for poor play. Oldest trick in the book.

Anyone else think it’s a little suspect that he keeps raising the club up after the shot with his left arm? You know, the one that’s broken in 473 places? Anytime I’ve injured my shoulder, I haven’t been able to lift up my arm alone, let alone lift clubs for really no reason.

Ben, you really should consider writing for the tabloids. He certainly didn’t appear to be in agony to me. Calling this gruesome and cringe-worthy is quite a stretch. Your articles on the other hand….

Too bad we can’t turn off certain front page writers; swanson: check, Ben: check.

I love all the negativity, cynicism, and anti-support on WRX. I really do. Grows on you. Fast.

He was faking it. C’mon. Watch the replay. AND all of his movements after the swing . Shaking hands, putting on his hat. etc.

OMG really. He must have gone to the same acting coach as Tiger Woods.

Clearly click bate! Swung with two arms in the video it seems. two hands on the club at impact also. I was expecting a one arm golfer! Better title would have read – Beau Can Throw- Hossler throws his clubs on route to match win.

But on a serious point! He did just finish the match Birdie, Par with what looked to be a very serious injury. Good on him for not calling it quits!

I guess I’m the only one who thought his over the top, look at me motion, was a little dramatic!

I’ve had four rotator cuff surgeries (2L/2R) and can attest to the pain and debilitation – especially with a golf club in hand. What this kid did is remarkable, and I truly admire his guts and fortitude.

Chipping out of the bunker because he couldn’t hit his wedge due to the injury, then holing out the next one from the fringe with a big break to the right was seriously impressive.

One heck of a gutsy performance.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
