From the Forums: How are you liking TaylorMade’s Qi10 fairway woods?
In our forums, our members have been discussing TaylorMade’s new Qi10 fairway woods. WRXer ‘ace036’ plans on testing them in the next few weeks, saying: “from how they look from address and frame the ball is much more appealing to my eye versus my current Paradym fairway woods.” And our members have been sharing their positive feedback in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Edwardsr: “I got fit into the Qi10 core model with Ventus TR Black 8X and it’s absolutely amazing for me.During the fitting with my 12-15 swings with it, it was the most efficient combo I’ve ever tested, tons of 1.48 smash and 3 or 4 1.49 smash (which I don’t think I’ve ever gotten on 3 wood on a launch monitor).”
- MiloMalt: “No complaints and so far only high praise for my Qi10 Tour 3 and 5 wood. I’m getting great numbers and a nice penetrating ball flight with great height whereas with my old TSi2 4 wood it was spinny and ballooning and short because of that.”
- courcy75: “The Qi10 Tour 3 wood I just put in play has been outstanding for me. Finally found something I like as much as the 07 burner tp.”

From the Forums: Should I play a 3-wood or 5-wood?
In our forums, our members have been discussing 3-woods, 5-woods and bag setups. WRXer ‘Cole Fleming’ is currently unsure of his setup, and reached out to fellow members, saying:
“Thoughts on people playing 3 vs 5-wood? I have a high SS 118 with driver 280s + carry. I really never use my 3-wood now as my course doesn’t really have the need unless I move to the back tees. I usually carry it about 260+. I’m ultimately looking for something easier to hit and maybe start trying to use it off the tee some to keep me out of trouble.
I also play a 7-wood. Love it so don’t want them to be to0 close. Ive never even considered or looked at a 5-wood. I have a fitting today so I’m sure I could test them, but wanted somewhat of an idea going into it to tell the fitter so I’m not swinging so many clubs.”
And our members have been sharing their thoughts on the matter, as well as mentioning what has worked best for their game.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- pu_golf88: “I’m dropping the 3 wood this year for a 5 wood. I hit my drivers a similar distance as you and find that my 3 wood isn’t a fairway finder, I really only use it if there’s a dogleg where a driver would go thru where I want to land the ball. I think a 5 wood goes far enough to use it as a fairway finder off the tee when I want more distance than hitting my 3 driving iron.”
- T626G: “I myself have decided to try a 5-wood. Never really had much luck or need with a 3-wood. Should be easier to hit. I’m going to cut it down a 1/2″ just to help control it and swing easier.”
- jedc: “Adjustable 5-wood turned down to 4-wood loft (and open looking face is nice). I had a fitting last month and really liked the PXG Black Ops 5-wood.”

I am willing to bet a month wages that all those drooling over this article could NOT tell the difference between a first generation Pro-V1 and this new prototype.

Titleist is “not ready to pass out any information on the ball” yet? Typical.
I used to use ProV’s all the time until they has durability issues a couple years ago. Switched over to the Bridgestone B330S and haven’t looked back. As long or longer than the ProV1x, as soft and has as much spin around the greens as the ProV1, and more durable than both of them.

Pro V1 x+ is a tour prototype. Rocco Mediate played one for awhile. It is a Prov1X cover and dimple pattern with the soft ProV1 core! I’d love to get my hands on some of those…and I am not a Titleist guy!

At least most of you were chosen a second time to test the new Titleist ball. I had tested the last two versions but, obviously, my opinions were no good as I was not chosen for this round.

One of the tour players gave my kids the prototype while he was using it on the range at the BMW Championship in Denver. The ball looked just like a Pro V1X, but said Pro V1X+ on it.

I game the V1s only if I find those. And today I was lucky twice. The Tour S is probably as good as the V1 for any non scratch player and you get but more for your money. If money wasn’t an issue and I was playing more often I would only play the V1s.

How about an improvement on price.

Wonder if they are going to go into the 5 layer ball world like Taylor and Callaway. Typical Titleist is to have everyone else do it then they come out with the best version after the fact. Just like when they were last to get into the multilayer tour ball world.

Leave it to Titleist to keep on researching and improving their product. No wonder they are the number one ball in golf.

Be interesting to see what they are trying to improve on. I’ve used the Prov1x model for over 6 years and love the ball.
I guess any improvement would be welcome even if it is only minor.
