When one buys a set of clubs off the rack there is no way that all the clubs are the same lie , these heads are made. in China or some other place shafts made some where else and assembled in the USA , I had purchased a set of clubs with a nice red dot could not understand why the five iron went right had it measured and was no where close to red had it bent and wala good. The pros are looked after very well and I understand that and they should be that’s their living but to say clubs are sold with proper lofts and lies is wrong . The buyer is responsible to question the product he’s paying a lot and should get what he or she pays for.

Have always been interested in Bubba’s shaft, in his driver. Isn’t the BiMatrix more than an X Flex? I had one years ago in a 3 wood (when I could swing) and found it extremely hard to hit well. Graphite with a steel tip would be quite stiff.

44.5″ on the driver, 42″ on the 3 wood…………………most people are playing with woods that are too long.

That thing really is a Rife putter. 2 degrees of loft with the down grooves. Sheesh

“(9 degrees at 8 degrees, setting -0.6)”
What the heck does that mean.
You mean it’s a 9 degree head set to the Big Minus which makes it 8. If it was set on the Small Minus sign then yes it would be -0.6 which wouldn’t make it 8, now would it? Please clarify.
John
Feb 22, 2016 at 11:18 am
The driver says 9* on the head, the actual or digital loft of the club is probably 8.6 degrees, approximately. When he sets the club to the small minus (-.6*) then he hits that 8 degree mark. All manufactures drivers have a 1 degree tolerance for loft, could be more could be less. They don’t tell you that but it matters.
Tal
Feb 22, 2016 at 11:40 am
If that’s the case, would you care to explain to players of this driver that their head is actually set to 7.6 when they set it to the Big Minus then, because it’s starts at 8.6 and not 9 like the label says. Then if they go the other way and set it to the Big Plus it’s 9.6 and not 10.
You eejit, you think Ping would take that risk with customers by selling it that way and blatantly lying about what they’re selling? You make no sense at all. “Probably” doesn’t cut it. You know nothing. Go away.

Lighten up Francis club head lofts can very significantly from head to head also bubbas driver is likely a custom job. Get over yourself and move out of your moms basement

Precisely. And all manufacturers have a tolerance to their lofts. Personally I know Titleist clubs the best, as those are the irons I’ve been playing for years, and they are +/- 1* on everything. That’s why before you even leave the shop you should have loft/lie checked and tweaked.
Also…why the hostility just because someone is asking for clarification? Must have been a rough weekend in the romance department.

You’re a loser, John,
if the heads that Ping sold on the shelves were 0.6 degree or even a degree off from their labeling, as you would say, then nobody would ever trust them and nobody would buy their products, and Ping wouldn’t be able to stand their products either. So what you say is total BS and you should have yourself a nice cup of STFU and let the manufacturers stand behind what they sell in the millions.

Hahaha, how come no one ever responded to this guy who obviously thinks off the rack clubs…hell even custom ordered clubs, are exactly made to the loft spec? When he said that manufacturers stay within a 1 degree tolerance in either direction he wasn’t kidding. Take all of your clubs to a fitter with a reputable measuring machine and I bet you’ll be amazed what your ACTUAL lofts are. Hint: they won’t be exactly what it says on paper.

How heavy do those club heads have to be to maintain swing weight with 13 and 14 wraps of tape underneath the grips? I bet I takes quite an effort and attention to detail to get them all uniform like he would want them.

Devon, according to PING color code, green is 2.25* upright. As for irons being set 10* or 5* open it may have to do with the grind on the sole as his 4 & 5 irons have extreme heel grind which would allow the face to be open when the club is soled without manipulating with the hands, also the grips may be positioned 5*or 10* opened to the leading edge of the club.

Is there anyway GolfWRX can get lie angles? Bubba stands super upright, almost no knee flex, and his clubs look pretty upright. I am a tall guy, my clubs are about 5 degrees upright from standard, and I’d be interested to see how upright Bubba’s clubs are (or just what the lie angles are, as the concept of “standard” lie may be dissolving or misleading). Also, Nicklaus says in Golf My Way that, all things considered, the more upright the swing, the more likely square contact becomes. I have felt in the past that 5 degrees upright may be a sign of an improper swing plane, but now I’m starting to feel a little better about it. Knowing Bubba’s lie angles would be very helpful.

LOL! PING wouldn’t stand for that. Why do you think they have the Gold Putter Vault. They made the putter. Every PING tour pro HAS to play a PING putter. That putter was milled specifically for him at PING. This website probably talks about it somewhere.

What machine does Ping use, to measure lofts to 0.1 degrees?
Kevin
Feb 21, 2016 at 8:58 pm
I dont know if this is still true, but I remember reading and hearing through a few Tour Van videos on youtube, that Ping uses a digital machine to measure lie. Some even said that sometimes other companies would use pings machine to measure the exact lie, it was one of the few digital ones around. Dunno if that is still true, today, but this was a few years ago.

Just found this Chuck, “PING uses a laser-based digital loft and lie reader (of their own design) to read every iron, making adjustments by hand when necessary.”
