So if you love golf, the GolfWRX forums are your sanctuary.

In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz.

Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary.

King Cobra LTD vs. TaylorMade M1

Two high-profile drivers, Cobra’s King Cobra LTD and TaylorMade’s M1, have caught the eye of GolfWRX’s self-styled “equipment hos.”

Check out the thread here.

Of course, many serious equipment fanatics will do a bevy of preliminary research before getting their hands on clubs to test (likely on a launch monitor).

This thread is one of those discussions about the relative merits of two hot new drivers, and is worth checking out if you’re in the market

More on the M1 here, and the LTD here.

Minimalist bag setup

Here’s an interesting discussion: If you want to take a few sticks out of your bag (for any number of reasons), what’s the best setup for a, say, nine or ten club bag?

Student of the game kicked the thread off:

“Last year I toyed around with and played some rounds using a minimalist set up. I did this by choosing favourite clubs out of the bag and carrying these in a lightweight Sunday bag, my set up usually consisted of 3 Deep, 3, 5, 7, 9, 52, 58 and putter or for longer courses I put the driver in the bag. So 9 clubs maximum. What I am thinknig about now is IF (even though it is probably going to happen) I was going to build a purpose built minimalist bag what would my thought process and theory be for building the bag.

“My bag would be built based on yardages instead of numbers on the club. The way I see it is I know my home course and what it takes to get around there, but if I wanted to go full minimalist even when visiting other courses playing each club as a yardage would be much easier.

“My minimalist bag (In theory):

Driver – Optimally fit for accuracy and distance (Somewhere between 290 and 300 yards is where I think I would be)

  • Fairway Wood – Between 240-250 yards
  • FW or Hybrid – between 195 and 205 yards
  • Iron #1 – 175 yards
  • Iron #2 – 150 yards
  • Iron #3 – 125 yards
  • Wedge #1 – 100 yards
  • Wedge #2 – Specialty Shots
  • Putter . . . You know to putt with

“Just wondered if anyone else has different or slightly different ideas from me regarding this. I also know alot of guys will say you can carry 14 so why not carry 14, I do play rounds with a full bag but sometimes this is fun. It also forces you to play shots in between clubs which is a challenge I enjoy.”

Best round at a tour stop?

Ever wonder what you’d shoot at a PGA Tour track? Well, it’s important to remember the pros play from the tips-plus and are dealing with more difficult pins and generally longer rough. Still, it’s interesting to see what a range of handicappers shot at Tour venues.

Check out the thread to see what WRXers shot and add to it if you’ve teed it up where the pros play.

2016 Scotty Cameron putter lineup

ScottyCameronX7M

Speculation, and what the WRXers want in this thread.

Yanki01: rumors are it will be similar to the current golo with the insert.

PZero: The stuff he has been putting out lately has been awful and gimmicky looking. If you want a Cameron buy an older model.

Yanki01: time to go back and keep it classy, classic looks when it comes to his putters will be money. though i’m afraid a lot of people are not like us.

“Rawing” irons

Usually, golfers are looking to dress up their irons with paintfills and finishes. Sometimes, however, they want to strip the chrome of their irons to achieve a raw look.

ERUddOH started a thread about rawing his Srixon irons and a few users followed suit with pictures of their own raw jobs.

Check out the thread.

The link for what WRX’s shot at PGA Tour venues goes to the wrong thread. Can this be fixed please. I’d be interested to have a look at it. Cheers.

I think a minamilist set set up should be a classic half set… 7 clubs Max. It makes you think about the shot rather than the yardage. Or even going out with three clubs. I shot 7 over with 1 club once… And 20 over with a full set…

I’m a minimalist set-up specialist. Yardage counts, but as well you have to bag in what you know you can reasonably play with a good percentage of success. For me, it lies with no iron upper than the 5 iron and only two wedges, as having more get me in trouble not to be able to choose the right one on every shot.

So, basically, it turns out to be like this: driver-utility club in the 16-20 degree range-5 to PW-54* wedge-putter. 10 clubs and I can play everywhere.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
