Adam Scott testing Scotty Cameron X6 putters at Bay Hill

Published

on

Adam Scott, who recently switched to a conventional length putter, was seen testing a few Scotty Cameron custom putters at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Tuesday. According to our sources at Bay Hill, the prototype putters are being called Scotty Cameron X6.

What we don’t know? Whether Scott will put one of them in play this week.

What we do know? The new putters look like love-children between a Scotty Cameron Futura X and a Scotty Cameron Futura X5, with similar alignment lines to Odyssey’s White Ice #7 that Scott used at the WGC-Cadillac Championship.

It looks like a beer cooler with wheels turned sideways. SC def has better offerings.

Might be the ugliest putter from Cameron yet. Has there ever been a company that charges more excessively for a ‘name’ than Cameron? This whole Futura line is just plain awful looking and the other putter companies have figured out much better ways to move weight around for increased MOI. Please start over with this model and use some creativity as well.

Not to be redundant but I agree with most comments. True ingenuity is gone from Cameron . its appears all manufactures have peaked with new ideas. Its not even like they try anymore to convince the consumer their idea is new and totally different. It appears adam scott found an oddesy putter he liked and Cameron just copied it (again).
I like many always check out the latest putters. Nike’s mod 90 (which looks like a modern day flanged bullseye) is the best feeling, softest , most straight back straight through putter I’ve ever tried. And it blows away my daddy long legs. Here is an example of technology looking back to the past and reinventing the wheel. Another simple design that works is the new Wilson’s 8802. Rather see this (improving the proven designs from the past) than blatant copying other companies equipment.

The putters just keep getting uglier. I am sure they will roar off the shelves this year. I worry about the guy with the old reliable putter then I do with some poser with a putter of the week like this. If your stroke is a little shakey when it really counts ,it will always be a little shakey.

me niether. I admit I used to be in it but all that money for a prodcution putter that millions have is ridiculous. if you want a custom putter you should be able to choose your paint fill without paying an arm and a leg. in my opinion the best custom putters precsionwise are MACHINE. they start 3-400 and you can pick you paintfill, neck type, weight, medallion color all in the price. and its 100% milled not cast with amileld face like some scotty or aluminum like his new ones. of course machine putters can get into 600, 700 upwarrds of thousands but that is if you choose a lot of upgrades, fancy metals like copper, demascus, makume etc. but for a 303 ss putter with your chioce of neck and paintfill included. amchien putters are the way to go and under 400 for most of them. excellent craftsmanship.

Scott makes really good putters. Some look better than others and some not so good. Been in a similar position making copy putters and originals. Can’t bat a thousand percent. Amazing how great his marketing and brand is. If you ever tried to do what he has done, you would appreciate his talents. Personally, I don’t like the guy. Professionally, I respect his accomplishments. By the way, his real name is Donald.

I have thought for a few years now, that Scotty C doesn’t really design putters, but copies the successful putter designs from Ping and Odyssey, in a milled form, with a few special stamps or grips, or headcovers. His original designs, like this X6, are God-awful looking…

But unbelievably, there will be a herd of sheep, waiting to buy it.

I guess it might depend on how/where you play but I could almost guarantee that I would severely damage one of the components over time just by throwing my bag in the car or on the cart.

What the heck is that? I did not know putters came in 4×4 versions LOL!! I think Scotty is loosing his touch, can you believe a new club designer proposing that design and a product manager actually approving it for prototyping… If it lets you make straight putts that’s all that matters I guess

If the higher MOI leads to better putting then who gives a toss how it looks? This is golf, not a fashion show.

It looks like the bastard child of an Odyssey 7 and a Frankly Frog. Well made copies of other peoples designs remain …. copies. I admit I don’t get the whole Scotty deal, but this thing is awful.

Does anyone else agree with me that they’d love to see Titleist put out a traditional looking line of putters with a classic Titleist logo stamped on them, rather than cherry bombs and all the space age gimmicks?

The old slotline inertial was more inspired than that scotty c., then again, a beer can skewered with a shaft would be more inspired, cost less, and probably work just as well. Blech.

All of the companies are stretching to find new ways to sell clubs, and rightly so as they need to stay in business. But most of the time their designs like this one end up looking desperate and uninspired. I’ve seen guys put lights-out with a 20yr old putter. All this new technology for putters is laughable at this point. What is next? Weights that spin like a gyro? Heads shaped like on octopus? I understand they need to innovate to stay in business, but at what point do they admit, technology has pretty much reached a limit for the putter?

Not yet Lie Angle Balancing a putter is the next big thing, putter stays square to the arc the lie and length create, directed force putters are already doing it…

I’ve been pretty disappointed with Scotty Cameron’s offerings the past couple of years. I’m especially disappointed in their Dual Weighted putters. Adding 50g of weight in the grip is almost pointless when you add an equal amount to the head. I love the way a true counterbalanced putter feels. I add 100g or more to the grip end and keep the head light. 320g or even less sometimes. I find it is easier to glide the putter through and gives me enhanced feel for distance. I recently switched to an Edel putter. They’re a little expensive but it’s worth it when every aspect of the putter is custom fit and custom built to exactly what I need.

Hard to be too excited about this. Looks like it was made as an afterthought to incorporate Scott’s last putters into one. Just continue with the Odyssey!

  31. Michael

    Mar 17, 2015 at 4:12 pm

Pretty uninspired. Looks, like had had a couple of spare parts laying around and welded them together to match the shape of the Odyssey #7. Reminds me of the Frankly Frog putter from yesteryear.
SC has some really nice putters, that I would consider gaming, if I want to get rid of my putter, but this is for sure not one of them.

    Regards,
    Michael

At least the Frankly Frog Putter has character and a quiet elegance. Unlike the monstrosity that Cameron has created.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
