The training aid Billy Horschel used at BMW Championship

Published

on

We spotted this week’s winner, Billy Horschel, on the range at Cherry Hills, Thursday using the SwingLink training aid.

What was he doing using the product you see below?

To answer that, remember this: With the ball slightly below his feet on the 72nd hole of last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship, Billy Horschel chunked his approach shot into to a hazard, ending his run at victory.

If you looked at what Horschel said in the aftermath of the poorly struck approach, he said a lot of things like:

It happens. I’ve got thick skin. I let things roll off me a lot. Nothing seems to bother me for too long. That’s just the kind of person that I’ve been my whole life. And so, I didn’t dwell on it. It was over, I had a lot of great people call me to make sure I was doing okay, and I said listen, I’m fine. It’s just a bad swing at the wrong time.

In other words. He put it out of his mind and got back to work.

As you can see, his grind sessions on the range involved the use of the SwingLink.

What does the SwingLink claim to do?

According to the manufacturer:

Swing Link is a revolutionary golf training tool that helps you achieve a more efficient golf swing in minutes! It keeps your arms and body working together as a single unit rather than allowing the arms to work independently. The Swing Link keeps the body in control and the arms in the proper position to encourage the body to pivot. It puts the emphasis on the larger muscles.

Horschel, of course, won the BMW Championship by two strokes. Not surprisingly, he was excellent from tee to green for the week, as you can from his first, second, third, fourth, and average numbers below, along with his rank in each category.

No word on how long Horschel’s been using the product, but you’d have to guess it’ll be making the trip to Atlanta with the second-ranked player in the FedEx Cup standings.

what comes around goes around – old school set of straps used by Faldo and Pricey in the early 90’s – demonstrates that things have not changed as much as advertised. dig the dirt – get results… nuff said.

I saw Luke Donald in person at the PGA Championship using the same device but in black and hooked up to both arms. I wonder if they are the same thing. I put an iron cover under my left arm pit when practicing sometimes but it falls out on my follow-through. Does anyone have experience or recommendations of this swing aid?

Over the years, it’s been held at a variety of courses across the Lone Star State, but it’s found its home at TPC San Antonio in recent years. Some of the biggest names in golf have taken home the title here, including Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, and Ben Crenshaw.

GolfWRX has its usual assortment of general galleries, WITBs and special pull-out albums. As always, we’ll continue to update the links below as more photos come in from TPC San Antonio.
