Photos from the 2014 BMW Championship

Published

on

GolfWRX is live this week from the 2014 BMW Championship, the second-to-last leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, played at Cherry Hills Country Club just outside of Denver. The par-71 layout will measure 7,466 yards for the championship, although the high-altitude and thin air will make the course play significantly shorter.

The top-70 players in the FedEx Cup standings are set to participate this week, but the field will be cut down to 30 for the Tour Championship in Atlanta. To advance, players outside of the top-30 must play their way in with a strong finish in this event.

Currently, the top spot in the standings belongs to Chris Kirk thanks to last week’s victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship, but positions can shuffle quickly in the FedEx Cup Playoff points system. Rory McIlroy is a close second to Kirk in the standings, with Hunter Mahan, Jimmy Walker and Matt Kuchar close behind.

Last year, Jim Furyk shot 59 on Friday, but couldn’t hold onto the lead throughout the weekend. Zach Johnson claimed the BMW Championship with a final-round 65, although Henrik Stenson went on to win the FedEx Cup Playoffs title and the $10 million prize.

Check out our photos from the BMW Championship as the FedEx Cup Playoffs roll on.

Was there yesterday for the Pro-am. Being my first PGA event it was a blast. I went to the Solheim last year and you can tell the difference between the PGA and LPGA. But camped out on the 10th tee box saw a lot of the shots that were posted. Great job as always. Can’t be easy carrying 2 cameras with the back strap.

The event has been around since 1922, making it one of the oldest on the PGA Tour calendar. Over the years, it’s been held at a variety of courses across the Lone Star State, but it’s found its home at TPC San Antonio in recent years. Some of the biggest names in golf have taken home the title here, including Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, and Ben Crenshaw.
