Cleveland makes new appointments, plans to bring XXIO to US

Published

on

Cleveland golf announced today that Chuck Thiry will assume the role of Vice President and Special Advisor to the President with the specific goal of maximizing the brand presence of Cleveland Golf, Srixon and XXIO with green grass accounts across the country.

“I couldn’t be more pleased to be embarking on a new mission, Thiry said. “It’s the next logical step in my career, and I look forward to serving the company in this new role.”

Cleveland will also be bringing its XXIO brand to North America, which Mason Prange will oversee.

“Mason has earned the respect of everyone within our organization because of his combination of sound logic and innovative thinking,” Thiry said. “He’s the perfect individual to lead us as we prepare to relaunch our two largest brands, Srixon and Cleveland Golf, while introducing the exciting XXIO brand to North America.”

The Cleveland-Srixon-Dunlop conglomerate will be looking to push the XXIO, which is relatively unknown in the U.S. but immensely popular in Japan and Korea, with the restructuring. The company recently released its XXIO 8 line of woods and irons, which you can view here.

This brand and Honma dominated the shelves when I visited some golf shops in Japan. Nice looking stuff but expensive.

I like this. I bought a xxio hybrid for my dad a few years ago and had a chance to hit it. It was long and very forgiving.

This brand will sell. The price will obviously have to come down, but I just hope the quality doesn’t follow suit.

Additionally, it’s Japan’s most popular brand and it’s not even close.

I agree they will sell especially since they cater lower swingspeed players and will have that Japanese “mystique” if they price them correctly.

When you have two brands that are not doing too well, adding a third brand seems like a genius marketing strategy.

Agreed…. All these companies apart from TM with ‘big plans for 2014/15’

Reality is, Matsuyama won the Memorial a few weeks ago with a beautiful set of Srixon 945 blades, and you sure can’t buy them in the UK and I doubt many of you will find them on the shelf anywhere in the US either.

Yes yes I know the blade market is tiny, but if it was TM they would be damn sure something vaguely similar, brand wise, was available to the market. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday.
