Custom Arrival: Bettinardi Atomic Stinger DASS Prototype

From time to time, we like to spotlight some truly awesome custom clubs. This prototype putter from Bettinardi certainly fits the bill.

It’s a variant of the putter that Fred Couples used to win the Champions Tour’s Toshiba Classic in March. What makes it unique is that it’s a counterbalanced putter — measuring 36 inches with a 378-gram head — and it has a full-shaft offset that gives it a three-quarter toe hang.

Bettinardi calls the putter an “FCB Atomic Stinger DASS Prototype” with a Tour Blast finish. The “Atomic Stinger” stamps debuted this weekend at the company’s social that took place at its headquarters in Tinley Park, Ill.

DASS stands for “double-aged stainless steel,” which is the material Bettinardi used to make the putter. It also has the company’s Hyper Honeycomb face with brass plugs in the face to deliver the necessary head weight and tune the sound and feel.

The Hyper-Honeycomb faces ensure a completely flat face surface, a claim that’s hard to dispute when viewing the flatness of the face from the side.
