Tweets of the week: Gorillas, rotten bananas, BBQ, and other cooking

Published

on

What are the best golfers in the world saying via social media as they’re preparing for a new year and a new golf season (really, it’s the continuation of the wraparound season, but still…)?

We’ll have a look in this edition of “Tweets of the week.”

First up, Graham DeLaet, who has (rightfully) become something of a fixture on this weekly roundup.

If you remember last week’s “Tweets” DeLaet has been on something of a Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas-style buddies trip to Mexico. As the golfer prepared to return to action at the Franklin Templeton Shootout, he found that his caddie hadn’t done his due diligence in cleaning out DeLaet’s Titleist golf bag.

From bananas to gorillas: Here’s another staple of recent editions of “Tweets of the week,” John Peterson…well, I don’t really know what to say about this. Have a look:

Steve Stricker, who announcers eternally remind us is an avid hunter, provided evidence that he is, in fact, an avid hunter on his Twitter account. Stricker, who is apparently as capable with a bow in his hands as he is a putter, bagged himself this buck.

From buck hunting to barbecue chicken eating. Recent Tour winner Zach Johnson has made it home to his family. And where did the golfer go to celebrate? Why to Southern Soul BBQ, of course.

Here are a couple of fashionable gents. Luke Donald tweeted the following photo of himself and Billy Horschel. Note the fact that Ralph Lauren apparently has conceived of Billy Horschel as a crazy pants mannequin.

On a more serious note, there’s this tweet from David Duval. Assuming the struggling veteran golfer meant “being” rather than “bring,” Duval made a significant pledge via the social media service. Double D missed seven of eight cuts in 2013.

On a happier note, Kyle Stanley is getting married!

And Ping must be delighted that staffer Bubba Watson decided to wear his logo-laden visor into the kitchen for this photo opportunity…

Finally, there were numerous tweets from pro golfers after the death of former South African President Nelson Mandela. None were more powerful and poignant than those from another normally private and emotionally reserved public figure, Tiger Woods.

GolfWRX is on site this week at the Valero Texas Open.

The event has been around since 1922, making it one of the oldest on the PGA Tour calendar. Over the years, it’s been held at a variety of courses across the Lone Star State, but it’s found its home at TPC San Antonio in recent years. Some of the biggest names in golf have taken home the title here, including Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, and Ben Crenshaw.

GolfWRX has its usual assortment of general galleries, WITBs and special pull-out albums. As always, we’ll continue to update the links below as more photos come in from TPC San Antonio.
