Darren Clarke with how many wraps? Pics from WGC

Published

on

Scanning through the pics and saw Darren Clarke with a serious build up on his irons. More than big John Daly who is notorious for multiple wraps on his grips.

Most forgiving one-piece forged irons? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing the most forgiving one piece forged irons on the market. WRXer ‘JStang’ lays out the criteria, saying: “I’m talking no slots, injected goo, tungsten plugs etc. Just a good old solid chunk of metal.”

And our members have been sharing their best picks in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Jmccas: “New Level 623CB is a single piece forging.”
  • brucedeuce: “Zx7. Not sure anything compares in a one-piece forging.”
  • drumdude96: “I play Adams A4 forged irons, and they are incredibly forgiving for a one-piece forging. They’re certainly not the latest and greatest, but I love them. And I get really good distance out of them too.”
  • CR1977: “Without tungsten? Wilson Staff Blades are pretty forgiving for a simple chunk of metal.”

Best looking pear-shaped 3 wood of all time? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing pear-shaped 3 woods. WRXer ‘GolferDude54’ kicks off the thread, saying:

“I was interested in knowing what 3 wood in the present and past do you guys think has had the best looking profile at address and is pear-shaped to boot, i.e. Titleist 906F2. Like you look down at address, and it just oozes of being aesthetically pleasing to your eye. You can even post more than one 3-wood and a list as well if you are torn between this and that.”

And our members have been sharing their best picks in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Dill Pickelson: “I owned the 906f2 and agree it was a perfect looking 3 wood at address. I currently play the rogue st ls 3 wood and also think it looks great at address. This is exactly how I want a 3 wood to look, no triangular 3 woods, no closed face or slight offsets. I also liked the Ping i20 3 wood. It sat very nicely behind the ball.”
  • hammergolf: “Hard to beat the Titleist PT. Had one in the bag for almost a decade.”
  • Boogs2: “I’ve always liked the Nike T60. Still have one with the steel shaft. Loved how deep-faced it was.”
  • puresurfr: “Titleist 970, love the shape, and it was like a sledgehammer when hit on the screws. Honorable mention for Nike T60.”

Are blades really ‘punishing’ or do people swing too hard? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing blade irons. WRXer ‘ChunkItGood’ questions whether blades are actually overly punishing, and kicks off the thread saying.

“I just heard a guy on tv quote John Anselmo (?) who apparently taught Woods to the effect that ‘you can hit the ball as hard as you want as long as you hit the center of the face and stay in balance.’

If people followed that rule, would they have to worry about punishing’ mishits? Shouldn’t they, instead of getting more forgiving clubs, just stop swinging so hard they cannot hit the center of the face?”

And our members have been sharing their thoughts on the matter in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • BagOfToast: “I find that a lot of the time I’m not hitting the center I’m just swinging too fast, so I’d agree with swinging too hard.”
  • iknowbagu: “It’s not mutually exclusive. Yes, blades are more punishing on off-center strikes. Yes, people swing too hard.”
  • jomatty: “Blades are punishing. I’m not sure that most players do better when they try to swing easy. As long as my tempo stays good and I don’t get quick from the top, my most consistent strike, with everything wedges, is one that is very close to as hard as I can swing. If I try to make that same hard swing and my tempo is bad, or if I try to make an easy swing and my tempo and sequencing is bad then I have lots of problems.”
  • Phabs: “Believe Tiger’s dad said that to him, not a coach. Swing speed had nothing to do with contact point. I can swing slow and hit a ball like crap, or I can swing out of my shoes and have the same result.”
