I thought about the iron covers for a hot second. Then I realized I would hate myself lol!

White grips, sure as soon as Golf Pride makes the MCC+4 midsize in white! For now I guess gray will have to do.

Very nice Schneider! What’s the swingweight on those? I’ve used their wedges (great shape and feel) but always had to use lead tape. 130X shafts sound heavy.

Not sure of the swingweight, but feels to be in the D2 ish range. I play better with heavier shafts so it doesn't feel out of the ordinary for me.

I know you said you like heavier shafts, but can you imagine how incredible those Miura's would feel with the Steelfiber's in them... (in case you all missed that, I did a naughty thing and put a thought in a club ho's head that will distract him until he finally tries it).

Ha ha I see what you did thereÖ  really it will all depend on how my elbow and wrist feel going back to steel shafts.  The plan when I bought them was to put steel fiber in them so it wouldn't be a surprise if I wind up doing that Lol

Very pleased after the initial range session. I'm hoping to get out today to play 18. I'll provide a write up after I play around with them.

As requested, here's some comparison photos of my current irons, Callaway Apex Pro 16, vs my new Miura CB57 and my initial thoughts on them.

Background:

I've now taken these irons out for 2 range sessions and one 18 hole round. The initial range session was very promising. I started off by warming up with the Apex Pro 16's, then moved into hitting the miuras, first PW, then 6i, then moving between the irons.

Before I go into the differences, I think it's important to note the difference in specs. Both sets are 4-PW. The Callaways have Steelfiber i95 Stiff, .25" over Callaway standard, so 5i: 38.25". The Miuras have KBS Tour 130X, standard Miura length, 5i: 37.75". Midsize grips on both.

Looks:

Let's be honest, these things are gorgeous. At address, both sets of irons have a similar look. The amount of offset blends nicely throughout the set and is never intrusive, always minimal. The leading edge has a gentle curve to it that I really like. I'm not a fan of very rounded leading edges. The topline is fairly thin, but is enough to inspire confidence at address.

On the back of the irons, they're extremely clean with minimal stamping, just a great look overall. The irons have a nice chrome shine that isn't blinding.

Posted Image
Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Feel:

With the steelfiber, the callaway feel extremely soft. They're a forged iron so obviously they'll feel soft, but I feel like the smoothness of the steelfiber amplifies that feel. Impact feels very light.

The Miuras feel incredibly nice at impact, even hitting firm range balls. When people talk about the soft feel of Miuras, now I know what they're talking about. I would stop at calling the feel "mythical" but it's very, very soft.

Forgiveness:

I was a little worried that these irons were going to be too much to handle. I played MB's and players CB's in the past, but lately I'm liking more forgiveness as I feel that my iron play isn't the biggest strenght of my game. The CB57 are surprisingly forgiving. Mishits off the bottom of the club and off the toe still fly generally in the direction of the target, and distance loss is maybe 5-10 yards. The sweet spot feels very large, comparable to the Apex Pro 16's

Performance:

The initial range session I striped everything, throughout the set. Really nice piercing flight on a flat, medium-high trajectory, slightly lower than the Apex pro 16. I'm not one to work the ball much, so I was pleased that they flew very straight.

During the 18 hole round, I had mixed results. The turf interaction is wonderful, with a very similar sole grind to the Apex Pro 16. Forgiveness remained high, and the irons were easy to flight.

My second range session I didn't hit them as well. I was striping my Callaways, but the Miuras were a bit of a struggle.

The shorter length is something I immediately noticed at address. It felt more difficult to get comfortable and they definitely felt "short"

Initial conclusions:

I think it's really too early to draw any concrete conclusions. I striped the irons the first range session out, so I know the feel and performance is there. I truly think that the issues I had the second range session and out on the course were due to differences in shaft and spec. I've got some elbow pain from testing, so the KBS Tour X definitely need to go. I confirmed on video that I swing the two sets differently, probably due to subconscious differences in feel and length. My transition has smoothed out a ton over the past few months, so I feel like I don't load the shaft hard enough in transition to warrant the KBS Tour X. In an effort to load the shaft, I lose a bit of depth in transition, my hands shift out, and I get steep on it.

I really love the feel, look, and sound of the heads. The KBS Tour are really just not doing them justice. As PowderedToastMan said, how great would these feel with steelfibers??!

Plan of action:

Next step for me is to try the Miuras with some steelfibers. I've set up a fitting session at Club Champion, where I went in February, to meet with Jon Bock and try out the CB57 with the different steelfiber shafts. He's a Miura dealer so that'll make things a lot easier. I want to make sure I get the right flex and shaft weight in them before having them installed.

Equipment whoring is so much fun.  Not that helpful to your game, but fun, none the less.
Did you see him smacked up
And cracked up
With his tongue on his chin
And his club in his hand,
Swinging from the rafters
Like a real RocknRolla

Let's be honest. I could take my callaways, and ride off into the sunset.....

But the Miuras are GORGEOUS!

And they make me even more scratch.

My experience with Miuras (baby blades, not the CBs, which are very nice!) is their feel isn't so much 'soft' as it is 'solid'.  If your elbow and wrists can handle it, steel transmits the feel much better than SF, imo.

As requested, here's some comparison photos of my current irons, Callaway Apex Pro 16, vs my new Miura CB57 and my initial thoughts on them.

...

When you're at CC, give the Recoil Protos a shot if you can.  That's what I have in my Miuras and they feel amazing.

Feel is such a hard thing to describe in words. I absolutely get the feel you describe. Solid is probably the perfect word for it. It's not mushy like overly soft, and it's not clicky like overly hard. It's definitely unique.

When you're at CC, give the Recoil Protos a shot if you can.  That's what I have in my Miuras and they feel amazing.

Good call Dan. Definitely will give them a shot if he's got them in stock.
