Away day was a lot of fun today,  weather held up and golf was Ok. New putter went quite well, still not holing enough putts but didn't miss too many short ones that I was "expected to hole" (this has been my weakness lately).

The course (Appleby Golf Club) is a true Heathland course in Cumbria, surrounded by the Pennine hills. Wildlife roam free on the course and the greens are surrounded by knee high electric wire fences to deter the animals from the greens. Really nice course and well worth a visit!

So I'm starting to roll the Newport pretty well now, much prefer it's classic, simple headshape. I think the new putter combined with a quicker, less fidgety putting routine has lead to me holing a few more putts :)
Played this weekend and shot a 73 which I was really happy with considering the dreadful start I had (bogeyed opening 3 holes). Carded 4 birdies for the first time in a longggg time, I've really been struggling to convert anything from 6 foot plus but managed to drain a few nice ones.

Got a minor bag change coming up, the 906f2 is out, the Fubuki shaft was just too light (65g) for a fairway wood so I have a RBZ Tour with a 80g Kai'li on it's way.

Other than that I don't see any major changes coming, although I'm very interested in the 915......but having said that I've been hitting some big ones with my SLDR lately.
Grooves in my wedges are starting to wear so I'd imagine some black SM5's with KBS Black NIckel shafts may be heading my way soon :)

Had a few good striking rounds lately but still not scoring great, I need to put in some time on the putting and chipping greens.

I thought I'd treat myself to some new wedges - SM5's - 52 f grind and 58 k grind. I'm a tall guy with a fairly steep swing so went for the K, also with winter approaching it's likely the turf is gunna soften up a fair bit over here. I ordered them with KBS black nickel shafts but unfortunately nowhere could get hold of them, so had to settle for just standard KBS Tours. Went for s flex as I'm not really a 'thrasher' with my wedges. Took a few pics of my kit when I got in from work, enjoy......

The Elements Earth definitely fits the low spin/low launch profile but I really like it. Paired with the SLDR head, it's one of, if not the best combo I've ever had. I'm thinking of trying to get a hold of an Elements Chrome shaft to have a play with, but winter is approaching and new drivers are being released so even though I really like the SLDR, a 915 or Vapor could be coming my way. Will be interesting to see if either of them can beat out the SLDR. As for the Kai'li, I find it smoother than the Earth and probably a bit more user friendly and forgiving, I do find that my bad shot with it is a miss left, but I think that's just me getting a bit quick and "handsy".

I've just ordered a set of metal stamps from eBay so will be customising my wedges sometime soon.
First job is to strip the paint fill out of them - I'm assuming the SM5 black finish won't be effected by Nail Polish remover? (my girlfriend's, not mine!)
Will post some pics as I go along, not so much a how to guide, more just so you can see how they're progressing coming along.....

The new wedge project is now under way.
SM5's arrived last week, I was going to go for a fully stealth set - black shaft, black head, black paintfill but unfortunately couldn't get hold of the shafts so now going for something different

Stripped the paintfill out of them yesterday
ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1413472081.889101.jpg

Metal stamps arrived today but I can't stamp them until I get back to parents house as I don't have a work bench or a decent hammer.
ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1413472147.671560.jpg

Ordered bright blue and white paint to do the fill, I'll fill the Titleist stampings this week but will won't have finished products until I've applied my stamps, unfortunately that'll probably be a couple of weeks before I'm back at the family home!

Have you stamped wedges before? I've done a few and I was horrid at first. I couldn't make myself hit the stamp hard enough because I was afraid to damage the wedge. After a practice wedge I was a seasoned pro.

no, never stamped any before, gunna have a try on some old duds first, from what I gather it's better to be brave and give them a hard hit! Will post pics when I've finished/ruined them ;)

Got my wedges stamped up and in pretty happy with them
Did one with my initials in the "snow" style and the other stamped GEORDIE referring to my nickname, I get called it as in from Newcastle and the guys I play with in Oxford aren't particularly imaginative!

Also picked up a nice Circle T headcover and some 20g Circle T weights :)

Not bought anything for a while but spied a Studio Stainless on eBay for a good price, in need of some TLC but thought it was worth a go.
Not got all the dings out of it but it is playable now. Put a new paint fill and a Pistolero grip on it too. Might give it a round this weekend....ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1421872026.043971.jpg ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1421872044.442662.jpg ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1421872064.797978.jpg ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1421872085.482361.jpg ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1421872100.484141.jpg ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1421872110.902213.jpg ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1421872127.387641.jpg ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1421872144.061874.jpg ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1421872164.402779.jpg

My Jindeberg Bag finally had to go :(
The zips were all breaking and unable to get them repaired anywhere. I sent a message to the good folk at JL but they have no stock left, apparently they're bringing out some new bags soon though.

However in the meantime I decided to buy a new bag - Oakley fairway stand bag, just arrived and will be playing with it tomorrow.

Our Foursomes League season just started at the weekend. Unfortunately we got beat 2-1 at home :( My partner and I managed to win our match but not an ideal start to the season.
Was having nightmares over short putts so decided to change it up - thought something with a higher MOI and a mallet shape could help me.
Looked at a few different models and was almost ready to fire at a Futura X DB @ 38" but got a bit scared and went for a Scotty X5 - I've always liked the Odyssey #7 shape but could never get away with the feel of it. Unfortunatley it didn't arrive in time for the match but I managed to grab a #7 from a friend at the last minute. I missed 3/4 short ones to begin with but canned a tidy 8 footer on 15 for the game.
Not happy with this I decided to play in the afternoon with the usual roll up guys.
Started with a 3 putt double bogey and thinking why oh why am I doing this!?!? another 3 putt at the 4th (bogey this time) and starting to feel helpless. Something then clicked on the next hole, textbook birdie and then following that I managed to piece together a 72 gross in very windy and sometimes wet conditions. It was enough to take the £££/$$$ and felt pretty happy after it, even the putter was going well.
My X5 arrived today though so going to put it through its paces this afternoon, wish me luck!!

Putter update - the X5 is going well, really like the feel and balance of the putter and am more comfortable now on short putts than I have been for years. Long putts going well too, not drained any really big ones but they're getting very close! Overall, happy with the putter and looking forward to the season.

Also changed my driver recently - was hitting the SLDR OK but thought I'd give the 915 a whirl. Picked up a 915D3 8.5* with X Flex blue board - changed the shaft out and put my Elements Earth shaft in (X Flex, 1/2" tipped, 79g). Played for the first time with it on Saturday - very impressed - long, straight and forgiving, but to echo what others have said - feel and sound aren't great. In short - Don't overly enjoy hitting it, but really enjoy where it puts me on the fairway. Too soon to say whether or not it's longer than the SLDR but on first impressions I'd say it's certainly not shorter.

Thanks, the pictured wedge turned out better than my other. I tried to do my initials in the 'snow' style but didn't lay the, out particularly well. Still does the job but shoulda put some more thought into it!

Played in a charity event at the weekend, 4 man team format. We didn't do great, but it was a fun day and I managed to win a prize for nearest the pin in 2 on one of our par 4s - bonus!
Played 9 holes tonight and hit the ball pretty solid. We've got a foursomes match at the weekend and in need of some precious points, fingers crossed!!!ImageUploadedByGolfWRX Mobile1433961117.413876.jpg

Had to have a break for 3 weeks thanks to a small fracture in my Schaphoid (small bone at base of thumb/wrist).
Played 9 last night and wrist still isn't in great shape but it's getting there. I actually played the day after I injured it as I didn't realise it was a significant injury and shot a 75 but really didn't feel comfortable. Was really struggling to keep club face open/square at impact - on the plus side, I had a consistent one way miss all the way round, once I figure this out I actually hit a few decent shots.
My 915d3 also developed an injury - there was a rattle in the club so sent it back to Titleist and they replaced it with a new head so I decide de to buy a new shaft too. Picked up a Matrix Black tie 7M3. Used it last night and wasn't overly happy with it to be honest but awar that a fair bit of that will be down to my wrist and not playing for a while.
Any one else have any/much experience with the Black Tie?
Also thinking about trying a Speeder 757 or an Oban Kiyoshi when fully healed up.

Matrix shaft experiment failed - for me it's not as long/tight/forgiving as the Elements Earth, will be swapping it right back in tonight. Elements Chrome is next on the list........

Just pulled the trigger on a new putter - Scotty Cameron X7m dual balance. Never putted with a DB before so really interested to see how it goes!

First round with my X7m DB - no 3 jacks, 32 putts, 74 gross. Was really happy with it. Feel and stability are very good, greens were slow so difficult to get the ball up To the hole every time but made everything inside 8 feet, happy so far.
