Thanks for getting involved, the JL bag gets a lot of comments! Only bad thing about it is that the white zippers have gone off colour, and one of the zip pulls snapped.
I haven't played for a longgggg time due to injury so I really am hoping the weather picks up soon!

Nice bag Chris, sharp set up, I have a 712u knocking around with the PXi in it, may have to get it reshafted for summer. The weather here sucks at the moment, my home course was open all day yesterday, I had a lesson this morning at a World of Golf place then went scurrying to the course to put it into practice... Course closed.

I used to play in the North East, Co Durham, course called South Moor, a Dr Allistair Mckenzie heathland track, really love it.
Just moved to oxford about 1.5 years ago and now play Oxford City (or Southfield as it was known) which was done by Harry Colt.

What about you? I see you're also in Oxfordshire

I usually play local courses to me. Drayton in Abingdon, carswell. Ill play anywhere really. Just limited due to having four kids. As long as i get to play occasionally in happy. Its easier to play as close as possible to home so in not out all day long. My Mrs wouldn't be happy.

So, at the weekend I had my first game back since undergoing left leg ACL reconstruction, was also my first round with the AP2's.

Round started with a topped driver, topped 3 wood...I'm thinking holy cr@p why did I play today!?!? Was very conscious about my knee and as a result was almost jumping off the ball so I didn't have to transfer my weight through my leading leg. I calmed down a litlle after hitting a few smoother shots and began to find the middle of the club. After 6 or so holes I was much more comfortable and was swinging at about 70% and getting fairly good results. Round highlights included a knock down wedge from about 130 that spun back to about 6 foot and a 7 iron from about 170 to 2 foot. Finished with a semi respecatable round of 76 gross, not too shabby after having a few months out.

Most importanlty though, my knee held up and I thoroughly enjoyed my round. Weather was great (for this time of year in the UK), course held up surprisingly well to all the rain we've had over here and I was in a killer 4 ball.

Now that I'll be playing again, semi-regular, I'm tempted to treat myself to new driver. Looks like SLDR could be a possibility but not sure which one though, any advice welcome......
Just got  acouple of Q's
Is the only differene between standard and TP models the upgraded shaft?
I understand that the face sits square at the original loft and opens as you decrease loft and closes as you increase loft.....is this correct?

any feedback would be great.

Oh, and can't wait for this weekend to get back out there.

So I put my driver on eBay just to see what sort of price I'd get for it, someone made me a good offer and now it's gone. That means I have a slot for a new driver.....rather I did have, new driver arrived today:
SLDR 460 9.5
UST Mamiya Elements Earth shaft, X flex 79g

It came with a Louisville Cardinals headcover too, being an English guy I'm not massively into American College sports but I suppose the cover's kinda cool, it'ss do for now anyway :)

Looking forward to hitting the low launch/low spin combo, hopefully it'll be a winner!

That sounds like a beastly combo there Chris! I am not man enough for that shaft and in that head it would be worm burners all day. Let us know how it plays, can't remember anyone reviewing the SLDR with that particular shaft

Managed to sneak in 9 holes tonight after work to give the SLDR a try. I've never hit a SLDR or an Elements shaft before so I was really curioous to see what they'd play like.
First impresssions....I liked the look of the SLDR from address, sits nice and square, I was scared that it would sit a little closed if anything so I was pleasently surprised to see it in a neutral position behind the ball. Club head felt lighter than my last driver (913D3), shaft was roughly the same, 79g vs 76g.
With the shaft/head combo I was expecting a low play ball flight and was interested to see what "low spin" looked like.
I wanted to give it a fair run out so set loft to standard and the SLDR weight was set at neutral .I played 2 balls all the way round and hit the club maybe 14 times. Flight was surprisingly higher than I expected, but it didn't climb too much, it was quite a nice arc. My bad shot was a slight leak right, the opposite to my bad shot with the 913. I may tamper with the weight next time out, or it may be somehting that I'm doing different. After 9 holes I was starting to get a feel for it and I was enjoying hitting the SLDR, at this point I think I prefer the sound and feel of the Titleist but it's too soon to say whether or not the SLDR is longer and/or straighter.
Overall I'm happy enough with performance so far, as I mentioned, I sold my 913 for a reasonable price and paid a fair price for this so I can't grumble too much.

I've now played about 2.5 rounds with the irons and they're really growing on me. Lovely to look at from address and this whole forgiveness thing is great, I put a bad swing on them (too often at the minute) and the 714s still manage to hold line and fly at a decent trajectory. In the 9 holes tonight I hit a fair few short/mid irons inside 10ft so to say I'm happy with them is an understatement. One thing I have noticed though, is that they fly fairly high and spin a lot. Not had them on a trakcman yet but the action I'm getting on the greens is lively, admittedly the greens are soft though so this could be a great thing in the summer.

Some great looking gear there chris, particularly love the bag!

Got that two iron myself in pxi 6.0 shaft but recently bought the new ping rapture 2 iron which personally is much more solid and a good few yards longer, which all helps :)

I'll grab a photo of the putter tomorrow, it's just a retail Studio Select Newort but with the old style weights in, 30g at the moment for our slow UK winter greens. I'm thinking of getting a mallet to try, possibly a GoLo 3/5 or a Del Mar but not decided on anything yet. I would love to be able to putt with a Napa blade style putter but they're hard to come by and I'm not sure if I'd jsut be making an already hard game, even more difficult! But damn those Napas look sweeeeet

Made a couple of changes to my bag recently.....
I've realy struggled with my putting since returning from my knee injury and thought I'd give a new putter a go. Went with a Scotty Cameron California Del mar, 35", 10g head weights. Played with it a few times and had my first round without a 3 putt in a while (I was having wayyyyy too many of those). I don't know what it is but the grip sits a lot better in my hand. The thick butt on it helps take away some tensions and has stopped me getting really "handsy" over short putts.
Posted ImagePosted Image

Second addition is the revival of an old 3 wood. Swapped out the i20 for an old school Titleist 906f2, I've just had a Fubuki Alpha shaft put in it and hit a few balls on the range. I liked what I saw at the range and hopefully that will transfer to the course today when I play in a local Pro -Am :)

Bag is nice, not the lightest I've owned but has ample space for balls, waterproofs and valuables etc. Comes with a really good rain hood too, which unfortunatley gets used more than it should do here in the UK. Unfortunatley I'm not sure where sells the JL bags anymore in the UK. If I see any I'll be snapping another one up though :)

I was a big fan of it originally but unfortunately struggled with it lately, that's more down to me, not the club though. Considering it's a "2 iron" it is fairly easy to hit. Gets up nice and high off the tee and it's not actually too bad from the fairway. As a really tall guy guy that hits a high ball, it's nice to have a club in my bag that I can work with in windy conditions.

FIrst round with the new (old) 3 wood today. HIt it 3 times, twice from the Fairway.....both shots came off really well, nice ball flight and straight as an arrow. 1 Shot from the tee, tightish par 4 with strong right to left wind, flushed it into the middle of the fairway and rode the wind beautifully. So far so good!

So I've struggled to play much lately due to work and things but thought id have a go at paint filling my Scotty Del Mar. Read a few of the guides on here and purchased some Tamiya Acrylic paint for about 2.50 off ebay. I'll not bore you with the process, I'm sure you've all read it before. Results below along with new grip

The Del Mar was not working out..... As pretty as it looked with the yellow/golden paint fill and the Turbo grip, it just didn't do the job.
Bought a new Select Newport today, great putter, nothing fancy. Would love an 009 or Super Rat but unfortunately it ain't happening on my budget at the moment, can't justify dropping 4 figures + for a putter, although I completely understand why people do it and one day I really think I will.

I'm home with my parents for a few days and going on an away day with my Dad and some other guys from my old club tomorrow, this was what my Mum came home to today....

Will upload some pics of away day tomorrow, it's a real interesting course with sheep and other animals roaming free, this was taken at the same event last year
