I hit the Recoil Prototypes against the C-Tapers. I had the recoil proto 95's, and I was in love with them. But I went to a launch  monitor on a whim. I hit 7-irons. In the Recoil Proto's, the Flighscope had me carrying it at about 203 with pretty good smash, launch, and spin. But then came the C-Tapers. Now they're a little heavier...but I was carrying 215 with a freaking 7-iron. The fitter was shocked. I also had 2* lower launch (which was good because I was hitting the Proto's high). I had a smash of 1.44 and slightly higher spin. C-Tapers for me, although both are pretty darn good

And your current 7i, on course, is 200+ yards?  If so, that's impressive.

It's a pretty broad question, but I've hit the C-Taper S+ extensively, and have the Recoil Proto 125 installed at UST HQ, and played them about five rounds now.

The C-Taper is a great shaft, and it does what it says it's supposed to:  drop spin, go farther, and produce stable results.  My problem with C-Tapers is that I have bent the tips on every set I've played.  KBS has replaced them when I asked, but on some sets, I just ate the cost.  The pros don't bend them, but they are pros and strike the ball pure.  I am a 9.4 index, and sometimes I hit them thin, sometimes fat. That being said, I haven't bent DG S400 or X100's....

The Recoils I have are hand laid in the US.  They up my launch a little, over the CT's, while also netting a little better ballspeed (smash).  Spin is a little higher than the C-Tapers, but nothing crazy.  I have only played some rounds in the cold months now, so I have not had them out for spring/summer action, and I still am getting the same carry I was getting with the CT's.  Not sure what that might mean for my distances when it gets back to 90°+ outside again.  My biggest selling point on the Recoils is that UST assures me there will be no "bending"/breaking the tips like in the CT's -- and the vibration dampening seems to be a real Godsend for my lead elbow.

I was apprehensive about the recommendation of the fitter at UST HQ, as he wanted to put me in F5's hardstepped 1x.  My left shoulder was not feeling the best that day, and I really felt like the F5 straight-in was best based on how I felt that day.  I should have listened to Bobby, but as I said we'll see how they play in early spring before making a switch to the hardstepped F5.  I figure it will lower the launch a bit, and drop some spin, which could be absolutely dead on what I need.

My recommendation: Go see a competent fitter with a Trackman and/or an outdoor range, and hit the Recoil and CT's side by side.

***:If you have a flat swing, are not a digger, only ever hit from grass, & swing a 6i <95mph
you will likely NEVER experience the bending I mentioned. So just use it as a datapoint.
Do not hold my story against KBS, as I don't.  They honored their warranty without any hesitation.
Even though it's obvious my swing was likely the culprit, not their product.
I still feel that the C-Taper S+ was my best golf shaft, but I can not afford to replace shafts 4x a year, on my own dime.

I'm impressed! Most PGA Pros hit their 7 irons 165-180, and occasionally they hit them 180-200...You my friend are just long.

I was in the same boat. Loved the c-taper s+ but i was bending tips too. Went into the Recoil proto f5 125's an d never have I been happier. The perform for me exactly like a c-taper, but with better dispersion and ZERO shock at impact. If ever there was a shaft worth the money, the recoil is it. If you are going to make the investment, see a fitter as there are a lot of options in the recoil family. Some less expensive than others.

Fyi, saw a demo of flightscope and trackman with my own eyes. Jason Day distance on trackman with an iron was + - 2 yards. Same iron on flightscope was + - 18 yards. Believe what make you feel better I guess.

I typically play my 7-iron around 180 yards. I definitely believe the numbers were a little juiced, don't get me wrong. I'm not Tiger Woods strong. The point I was trying to make is that the C Tapers were just longer for me

I played the C tapers and loved the feel but felt they were a little harsh on miss hits, the prototype recoils F4 125 I love and do not plan on changing unless they come with a 2.0 version. since I am a golf ho :pimp:

for me on trackman the c taper s+ and the recoil proto 125 f5's were so close in distance and trajectory that it just didnt mater. what was unreal was the tighter dispersion and zero shock of the recoil that made it a no brainer for me.

Was it the same head?
If it was a different head the loft could be slightly stronger (also producing a lower launch) then you may not be comparing apples to apples?

Both were hit with a 714 AP2 7-iron
