The original west bend poppery was a great coffee roaster, but they couldn't advertise it as one, liability reasons.
I keep combustibles a few feet away, and the smell during roasting is amazing, but it will smoke
Your house up, so a garage or outdoor patio are better suited.

i've been a strong coffee drinker for 30+ years.  My favorites include Peet's Major Dickerson when I'm grinding my own beans and Timothy's Midnight Magic when I'm in a rush and use my Keurig.  For those late night urges I use Timothy's Rainforest Espresso in K-cups.

I've been trying out the inverted method with my Aeropress, with great results recently.   Longer steeping time and "crema first" have made a realllllly smooth cup!

I really like the inverted method.  I have to think the Aeropress is the best invention for coffee in the last few years.  It's so versatile to just be a piece of plastic and rubber.  

As a side note I really like the S Filter from Kaffeologie.  It's a metal filter to use in place of the paper filters under the emphasis that the metal allows more oils from the coffee to go into your cup instead of soaking into a paper filter.  I think it gives a little better flavor.

All you miscreants have convinced me to give the Aeropress a try. Ordered one last night along with the suggested stainless screen.
I will report back with a comparison to Clever Drip unit I've been using for the last couple years. Quick, easy, no mess is hard to beat.

I've had a few cups from a Clever Drip and it makes a great cup.  I think you will see a little stronger flavor from the Aeropress because of the additional pressure from forcing the coffee through the filter.  Not sure what you will like better but the mess won't be any worse with AP.  Let us know what you think.

I love my a.m. cappaccino, so I rarely have a regular cup of coffee, but the Aeropress has me intrigued.

I have a Krups Espresso machine that I got as a present for x-mas (best present I've ever received) a few years ago.  I don't see a reason to change, as it serves it's purpose, but if there is a significant difference between an entry level machine vs. one that is considered higher end that won't break the bank, I might splurge.  I'm wandering what others have to say about that and suggestions for a budget minded higher end machine, if that's even possible.  Same question re: a grinder.  I still use a blade style grinder and have always meant to upgrade to a burr grinder based on info. I've read (or is there something else out there better).   What are you guys using to clean your espresso machines?  TIA

Breville makes a nice entry level machine, I have a 800 model for backup, or I load it up in the rv in the summer.
Makes decent steam, stainless steel, uses a thermoblock instead of a boiler, heats up very fast, stable temperature, self primes pump, has some very nice features.
Rocky makes a pretty decent burr grinder with a doser.
Brew rite or brew brite I can't remember, it's a powder that a tablespoon mixed with a tank of water every month or two, and flush it with fresh water, keeps the machine clean, and working great.
I use tap water, though we have a very deep well with good water, and very low iron.

I have ground espresso beans as fine as my Hario Skerton will grind them and very little to none makes it past the S Filter.  Its not anywhere close to the grit of a French Press.  For a normal coffee grind in the Aeropress you will nothing get past the S Filter.

It takes some time and patience to learn how to pull good shots.  My dad has been teaching me some things when we get the chance.  Would love to have a machine at home one day.

I drink 4-5 cups of coffee at work every day. It helps that I have a burr grinder, electric kettle and pour over thing at my desk.

I don't like coffee, so maybe somebody can help me out with this.  A few times a year ill have one of these before a round of golf http://www.7-eleven....ffee/Iced-Mocha .   What is the difference between one of these, and a normal cup of coffee, other than the temperature?

Those are full of preservatives, sweetener and other crap. Get iced Coffee from a coffee shop and it's the same as hot coffee (sometimes it's brewed a different way).

I don't like coffee, so maybe somebody can help me out with this.  A few times a year ill have one of these before a round of golf http://www.7-eleven....ffee/Iced-Mocha .   What is the difference between one of these, and a normal cup of coffee, other than the temperature?

Those are full of preservatives, sweetener and other crap. Get iced Coffee from a coffee shop and it's the same as hot coffee (sometimes it's brewed a different way).

I guess you can find out just about anything on the internet.

7-11 Iced Coffee Ingredients:
  • Water, Whole Milk, Sugar, Coffee Extract, Disodium Phosphate, Caramel Color, Natural & Artificial Flavor, Mono & Diglycerides, Food Starch - Modified, Sodium Phophate, Carrageenan

I saw that, but as somebody who hasn't had an actual cup of coffee for like 20 years, I was looking for a more simple answer. I truly know little to nothing about coffee.

Basically, would any coffee drinker even consider that 7-11 stuff coffee?

American made.
Looks to be made in a one cavity mold. One part has some drool in the gate area. The stir stick is not packed out. Probably due to a parting line issue. The cylinder is round (easier said than done). The wall section is fairly consistent for a round part. The core has at best a .003" taper over 5".

Bottom line... it does make a VERY good cup of coffee. Better than a Clever... debatable.
Don't use the supplied "stirrer". Too much of the good goo sticks to it. The wrong end of a spoon is better imo.
Just from a ease of use and cleanup point of view the Clever is going to remain the mainstay when it comes to making my morning cup of coffee.

Did the AP and Clever taste different or was it just less mess with the Clever?

There was a difference in taste but some of that could be attributed to the fact there was some fines that made it through the screen.
