I just played a new course Westwood, Mass. I really enjoyed it. Has anybody played here? Its in great shape. The original nine opened about 4 to 5 years ago and the new nine just opened a few weeks ago. There are some great par 3's and great par 5's, with beautiful greens. Overall, its a real neat golf course with a ton of varity of golf shots required.

Hey Fred,

Wow that is great news that there is a course in the Burlington area aside from Woburn Country Club...... :black eye:

I am originally from Arlington Mass, and have not played much golf there over the past few years seeing as how I have been moving from Florida, to Southern Cal, to now Northern Cal.....but it is awesome to see that there are good courses going up in that area.

Sounds like that is a good one, and I will have to play it when I go home and visit.

I'm playing there in a tournament on August 1st. Any advice you could give me about the course would be much appreciated!

Pingirons,
Its a great course. Just like any course keep in in the fairway (especially on the front nine). The course is straight forward, no tricks, or gimmiks. ON the back nine there is a very short par 4 and from the back tees, you almost hve to hit your tee shot over an old wooden barn structure. Its really cool. Almost like 17 at St. Andrews, its a cool feature on the course. Theres plenty of room on the Right hand side of that fairway. Enjoy and good luck. Next time i get out there, probably in a few weeks, i'm planning on taking a ton of pictures.

Thank you, FreddieC! I am looking forward to playing it. Sounds good!

Have you played Highfields in Grafton? I'll be playing there in a couple of weeks. I hear it is a great course, but a real challenge.

PingIrons,

I play in the inner club at Highfields. It is a very good course and one of the best values in New England. Front nine is tough, back has some easier holes. #16 is one of the tougher par 4's around. When the wind blows it can be a bear.

I also happened to play Butterbrook yesterday, playing the newly opened back nine for the first time. I had played the front nine probably 10 times or so, I always thought the people there were very nice and is an easy course to walk during the week which is nice too. Thought the back had some good holes after 11 you feel like you're on a completely different course until you get to 17.

Thanks, JdSequeira! Do you find it is better to keep the driver in the bag at Highfields? I went to their website and it looks like there are many tight driving holes. It looks like a "course management" course as opposed to a "grip it and rip it" one. I'm playing in a tournament their on June 16th. I'm hoping to play smart golf.

Hole 16 reminds me of #2 at Harmon Golf Club (which usually give me fits).

No problem.

It depends on the weather and how long you are. Highfields is in one of these new housing developments with a lot of OB. If you are fairly long off the tee you can keep the driver in the bag on #3 (OB left, lateral right), #4 (OB left, lateral right), #7 (OB left, lateral right) and probably 2 or 3 other holes. I was also assuming you'd be playing the gold tees, from the tips I reckon you'd need it a bit more. If it is chilly, wet or windy these holes will play long though.

I should probably add that I usually hit driver (I am pretty long off the tee) on these holes, it isn't too tight and Highfields is definitely NOT a target course like Cyprian Keyes or anything. Rough is pretty tough usually and the greens are tough to read and get much faster as the season progresses.

Here are a few pics from Butterbrook Farms Golf club in Westford Mass. This is one of best public courses in the Boston Area. The front nine is lined with tall pines and the back nine is completely different, much more open. Great course in perfect shape.
