After recently purchasing these clubs I noticed there isn't any reviews on these wonderful irons. I'm not much of a writer but I'm going to tell you my journey from beginning to the unexpected end. The opinions & results below are based on my journey to find the perfect iron for me.

About Me:
Just a average 51 year old with a 7.6 handicap who loves this great game. Use to be a extremely long hitter before I realized distance wasn't everything and now try to play with better tempo.I drive, chip & putt really well but my iron play is definitely the weak part of my game. I play every weekend with 3 smack talking friends with the same handicaps for week long bragging rights. Any one of us can win which makes the weekend foursome so great. Win or lose the weekend foursome match is one of my best highlights of the week. I often reflect back during the week of a great hole or perfect shot from our matches.

Time for new Irons:
I'm not the type of golfer who changes equipment very much, Not because I can't afford it but I don't believe my Callaway X-14's ever held me back from lowering my handicap. But after 10 years it was time for a change. After trying out all of the major OEM Game improvement iron I narrowed them down to two. My two choices was the Mizuno JPX-825's & the Taylor Made SpeedBlades. But after 3 sessions on the monitor at different golf superstore locations, I still had no clear cut winner between the two and no idea what shaft would work best for me. So I did is some research on top rated custom club makers in the area and found John Taylor in San Francisco. WRX was extremely helpful in my research thanks to the thread below...
http://www.golfwrx.c...a-club-fitting/

The Fitting
Coming into this fitting all I really wanted to accomplish was to find a perfect shaft for me. I knew coming in to the session my 6 iron average SS was 86-88 mph and my driver was 98-102 mph but that was the extent of my knowledge. I arrived at Johns at 11:00 a.m. and after introductions he gave me a tour of any golfers dream basement where all the magic happens. I didn't count or ask but he had to have well over 100 head and shafts to choose from.

After 15 minutes of conversation on all my strengths and weaknesses he choose approximately 8 heads and 12 shafts and we proceeded to his backyard where he had the radar already set up with his laptop.  During the next three hours I must have hit over 15 different combinations and well over 125 balls. I won't bore you with all the details but the clear cut winner for me by a mile was the combination of the Wishon 771's with i95 SteelFiber shafts. 95% of all my shots were flushed long and consistent and the feel felt just felt perfect for me. I knew almost immediately this combination would end up in my bag. If anyone would have told me before the fitting I would end up buying non OEM irons and graphite shafts I would have told them they were crazy. Three hours later I was ready to buy right then and there but John insisted I take his 6 iron and try it on the course and range. One last thing I'll say about John Taylor is he is the most meticulous club builder ever.

Distance 6 Iron Testing: Wishon 771 / Mizuno JPX-825 / TM Speedblades
Once a month my job takes me to Sacramento for a sales meeting. In Sacramento they have one of the best places in the country to try clubs. This place is called Haggin Oaks. You give them your drivers license and they will let you try three different clubs. I proceed to check out the Mizuno JPX-825 & TM Speedblade 6 irons and headed to the range for a complete head to head battle .

I really was a little nervous on how the 771 would do in this test. It was going against two of the longest GI irons on the market with a definite loft disadvantage. Since this was a 6 iron only test I took out the my new rangefinder and lasered a flag that was exactly 177 yards, a perfect distance for me for a 6 iron test. I proceeded to take 50 shots each with the different irons and only logged the flushed shots and here are the results. Note: ( OEM irons were stock, Wishon 771 had SteelFiber i95)

Wishon 771 179 yards
Mizuno JPX-825 176 yards
TM Speedblade 171 yards

Feel & Looks: 6 Iron Testing: Wishon 771 / Mizuno JPX-825 / TM Speedblade
I thought the 771 just did average in this department. Completely different feeling than other GI irons, it definitely takes awhile to get use to the Hi-Core face . I thought the 771 was pure golf porn in the looks department, If I didn't know better I would swear it was a blade from the top view but it's definitely a GI iron.I also liked the appearance of the  JPX-825.

Forgiveness & Accuracy 6 Iron Testing: Wishon 771 / Mizuno JPX-825 / TM Speedblades
I thought all three did very well in the forgiveness category. My mishits wasn't penalized near as much as I thought they should have been. On accuracy testing the 771's were nearly perfect as soon as i dialed in the baby draw. The Mizuno's did very well as soon as I got use to the weight. The Speedblade's might have been to light for me because I was wasn't very good with them. I know a lot people have had great success with the TM Rocketbladez & Speedblades but definitely not a good fit for me.

New irons arrive!
Since I had Thanksgiving week off and perfect 70 degree weather in California, I've started every day this week either on the range or playing 18 holes. The first three times I went to the range to dial in the distances and have been on the course every since.

So far my biggest surprises have been the lower irons and the new HM wedges. The  sand & lob wedge seem like we've been life long friends with spin I never knew was possible. As far as the long irons go I've hit some of my best shots in my life. Since I haven't been playing in any competition matches with my friends since their working this week I've basically have went for every shot no matter what the circumstances have been. Of all of the shots I've hit this week my favorite shot has been the last shot I hit on 18. It was a 191 yard shot  with a sucker pin between two bunkers with a extremely small green.Usually I would hit a 4 iron at that distance with my old set but I thought WTH and pulled out the 5 iron since my distances with the new 771's were about 1/2 a club + longer. As soon as I hit it I knew I flushed it and prayed it would get over the first bunker. As luck would have it the towering 5 iron  landed two feet in front of the flag and ended up being three feet feet past for birdie :-)

Conclusion:
There are a lot of great irons on the market today and some irons will naturally fit individuals better than others. If your in the GI category don't be afraid to give these irons a try. For me they was a better fit than any OEM iron on the market.

Not the best swing but the 6 iron numbers seem pretty consistent. (Try hitting over 125 balls and see how consistent you are :-)

I've got a set of 771 heads. Just haven't had the opportunity to chose a shaft and build. Thinking of the new XP105's.

Thorough and well thought out review.  I've been told by a few friends who have experienced a full bag fitting that it can be an exhausting process.   Thank you for sharing details of your adventure.  Enjoy the irons.  I really like the look of Mr. Wishon's designs.

Sooner than later you should check out the drivers, fairway woods, and hybrids. There are some excellent options in terms of loft and being able to adjust them to fit your natural tendencies. I love mine and would love to be able to get into a set of irons at some point.

Truthfully I was afraid to try the 919. Last thing I needed  was to fall in love with a long & forgiving driver after the spending spree I've been on lately with the new irons, Sun Mountain C-130, Bushnell Tour V3 and new pipes for the Ducati. But federal tax check and company bonus check is right around the corner

After extensive iron distance testing all week I can safely say my maximum 4 iron distance is 210. But my comfort range is between 195-203. I'm definitely not the longest iron player but all of my iron distances are up over my previous irons with a higher ball flight.

OP, tell us how filthy long these are! We want to know...

After extensive iron distance testing all week I can safely say my maximum 4 iron distance is 203. But my comfort range is between 186-195. I'm definitely not the longest iron player but all of my iron distances are up over my previous irons with a higher ball flight.

Sweet sauce. Has anyone hit these against the 870Ti irons??
I have. The 870ti is quite a bit bigger, less offset, and maybe a tad longer,  870's are titanium so much more expensive. But the leading edge is more squarish on the 870's,so they tend to dig. I also had the 770cfe, and they are fantastic. My brother wanted them so I gave them away.

Well, everyone is different, but for me the 870's launched lower,  felt more muted(more of a thwack) and feel completely different. They're just very different IMHO. I prefer the 870's but that's because I detest offset and like a larger faced iron. Could be why I love the 560's so much. I played the 870's for over a year but as my swing got better I started to balloon them,  but that is a shaft issue as I have FST 115s in them. My 560's have Nippon 1150gh pros.

I ended up not liking my 771s, although they set up very well to my eye and the sole grind was much improved.  Just like the 770s and 870s before them for me, they were just too clicky at impact.  I tried them with a variety of shafts in hopes of making them work (both steel and graphite).  Launch was comparable to my current irons and the 771s were consistently about 5 yards longer.

I love the look of the 771.  One of the cleanest and sexiest GI heads around.

Is it just me or does 2600 seem low spin for a 6 iron?  I've seen discussions about this topic, low spin 6 irons, but this seems more like a driver spin number.  Maybe all clubs are becoming mini drivers.

What happens when you hit down wind?  Can you get enough ball speed to keep it in the air?

I've been told by a few friends who have experienced a full bag fitting that it can be an exhausting process.
You're 100% correct on that statement. By the time the fitting was over I was completely spent. It was a typical foggy SF day in the 50's and my shirt was completely soaked! Each combination of irons and shafts would range from 5-20 swings before I would move on to the next one. By the end of the session my swings were starting to get pretty inconsistent.
