damn i was really looking forward to the annual tradition of a 40 page R-Series thread about whatever wacky thing they were going to do this year.

A little sad to see the white and the R-Series gone actually. Guess we never needed that faceplate adjustment to begin with.

Interesting that they went with these two lines that to the naked eye seem relatively similar. Definitely will be checking out the fw for both SLDR and JetSpeed in 2014 along with Callaway's X2 offering.

I think the JetSpeed matte finish and sleek shape looks way better than the SLDR imo.  The design of the fairway woods looks very good, because it will help you get the ball up out of junk much easier (maybe not the best tee fairway).  And in terms of the crown stuff, it looks nearly identical to the burner line that was out like 4-5 years ago, and people loved that line.  I see this as a great release for TM.  I would be intrigued to try these out.

I generally really like black and blue together but for some reason all of the new black/blue gear looks cheap to me. SpeedBlades, SLDR and these. Can't really pinpoint it but it's almost as if they overhauled their design team.

Also, for a TMAG release there's practically zero buzz here on WRX. That can't be a good sign...

Great ad.....but lose the roller coaster. It's Jet Speed not Roller Speed. C'mon TM!

I like this...can't wait for the reports on how hot the head (or forgiveness) with the slot head will be in the driver.

I usually don't post what I play. There is some shuffing depending on where I am playing. I am playing Harding Park in SF on Tuesday (earlier AMEX Tiger over JD, Pres Cup '09, Several Charles Schwab Cup finals including a couple of weeks ago)
Planing for that:
Driver: SLDR w/Fuji 6W06-x
3wd: RBZ Stage 2 Tour w/Fuji Motore VC 7.0 s
1H: Cleveland HiBore w/Fuji 380 HB Fit-On-S
3H: RBZ Stage 2 Tour set @19* w/Matrix 80h-S
5H  RBZ Stage 2 Tour set @ 23.5* w/Matrix 80h-S
4i thru PW RocketBladz Tours w/Fuji MCI 100-s (2 metal composite) except the 4i w/KBS C-Taper 110
SW: ATV  (original prototype) 54* w/KBS Tour S
LW:Bobby Jones Jesse Ortiz 60-8 w/KBS Wedge
Putter: Bobby Grace F-18 M.Coz Custom Proto (rear shafted[not heel shafted], 7075 LTD [very hard aluminum) no face insert, 35"
Ball: Lethal but I am receiving some TM Tour Preferreds both models to test next week.

One of these comes out depending on conditions we have no limits on Tuesday. I will also option from time to time a Bobby Jones by Jesse Ortiz  13* 3wd which is ridiculously straight and very reliable. I love it off the ground (I like to say "I can it down a hallway in the dark") but prefer the RBZ Stage 2 off of the tee and its higher trajectory where needed. But the BJ is never far away.

With the striking similarity to the burner line, I would have gone ahead and called the line AfterBurners! Seriously though, nice looking clubs, I'm interested to see how they perform.

AfterBurners to be introduced in March.  You heard it here first.

Not sure what's so hard for people to understand.

For the past many years, TaylorMade has had two different models/lines available - one for players/high speed swingers and one for those who need game-improvement performance.

R5/R7,R9/R11/R1/SLDR model products usually have heavier, shorter length, lower torque, adjustable features.

Burner/Rocketballz/Stage 2/JetSpeed usually are lighter, longer length, higher torque, hotter face attributes.

Depending on what you need, one or the other should appeal.  For those who are tweeners, you can get crossover/TP versions of either one.

No one model fits everyone, so TM does a good job of offering many versions for different swing/performance needs.

Good post.  So these are basically ladies clubs, right?

Ok, kidding there.

They'll probably sell millions of these for Christmas at Dick's.

Just like the famed Burner 3.0's right?

Got to hit the SLDR fairways and hybrids at the store today, and they're ok. I'll wait to try these, but I dont see how they can be better than those. Other than the hybrid, the SLDR line is ho-hum

I was at a TaylorMade presentation where they discussed transforming the "fitting" process into the "tuning" process via an iPad app. The interesting part is they will be gathering real-time data that will go back to Carlsbad, CA into their main database for "tuning" recommendations (shaft, flex, loft, etc.) based on actual people hitting golf balls using Trackman or Flightscope and not from an Iron Byron robot. As the database grows, I think they will be able to better help the golfing masses and that data will become one of their most valuable corporate assets.

Interesting that they are going for the low and forward COG in these as well, which obviously fit into the old Burner type category. I am very interested to see how they perform. I've mailed TM asking where they will fit into the driver range with regards to spin rates. If it's no higher than the Stage 2 Tour or R1 i'll be all over it. They commented already the FW's spin less than the Stage 2's, so i'd imagine the driver will be similar.

I have a feeling that this is going to be another TMAG head where the retail version is okay at best and the Txxxxx versions are lights out.

Are there any talks of a TP version being released?

I hate the graphics on top.. matte black by itself would be nice w/a small alignment mark would be great. I love the claims that "this" is the longest driver from TMAG. The SLDR is going to be difficult to beat.

This new driver is completely in line with the tradition of the burner line of woods so there should be no complaints from the peanut gallery.

You may be a bit misinformed about the RBZ and Stage 2s. There have been quite a few "regular" heads used on tour the past two years of course with other shafts. In fact both Rose and Garcia used the RBZ 3 wd quite a bit. But there were numerous others. They were not inferior heads, just different sizes and lofts. The RBZ was made in a Tour 4wd which wasn't commercial, it was a smaller head That was the only difference. (I played the 4wd at 16* myself last year as compared to the 3wd HL that others preferred because I was more comfortable with the smaller head.)

It is my understanding that the R series is dead, replaced by SLDR

I would have thought along the same lines as specimania.... or it's

SLDR
JetSpeed
RBZ/Unnanounced

Not sure what would really differentiate JetSpeed/RBZ in terms of player segmentation, so to me it makes more sense to keep the R line around have JetSpeed replace RBZ

R11s/R1/SLDR have a few more features than the RBZ/Stage2/Jetspeed lines, and are priced a bit higher as a result.

R11s and RBZ both had FCT (except RBZ fwys), but R11s had sole plate and the moveable weights.

I guess the Stage2 Tour filled in as the fwy companion to the R1 driver, with its adjustability.

Not really the place to post this, but did anyone win the Jetspeed contest (free clubs, lesson with HH and pro-am invite)?  I just noticed that the headline has been removed from the 'front page' and I cannot find the thread here either.  Any idea?

Anyone hit that shaft? I'm a huge matrix fan but damn that's light.

I am curious if the fairway woods are shallower then the rbz s version and the stage 2? I wonder if tour pros are going to play these at all.

Love the look of this driver. Its like they brought the Burner line back without calling it Burner. Hopefully they release a TP head.

No huge need for a TP head when this one is already low spin and readily adjustable to sit open.

Nice looking club. Like the design looking down. Looks like a funnel, easy to line up.

I do like the blue as well... Even looks good on that Matrix, much improved over the squash colored Stage 2 for my eye.

Just saw the whole Jet Speed line yesterday. Didn't hit any of them. This post is just on looks alone. The Drivers all looked and sat very nice. I'd like to try it. The 15* was slightly closed. So I looked at a few others and they were all the same. I say this because the RBZ Stage 2 FW's could set closed, square or slightly open(mostly graphics). You had to look through them to find the look you liked. Anyway, I looked at the 3HL next. This is the club I've been waiting to see. Well, I was very disappointed. I looked atv5 or 6 of them and they were all dead shut. Had to be closed 3 or 4 degrees. They sat terrible. I bought the 3HL in the RBZ Stage 2 instead. It sat square to slightly open. Reshafted it and hit it today. It's perfect(for me).
