Couldn't find anything on a search so here it goes..
Title says it all..
I put my bag on the stand at a muni on the 7th tee and was walking over to the bench to wait when I head a huge FORE!! coming from the first tee about 220 yards away..
I turn around the ball bounces 5 yards in front of me and comes flying at me..
In a great reflex save the ball ended up in my hand..
Astonished and with a sore hand I look to see what ball it is..
Brand new pro-v1..
My partner asked was I gonna give it back..
I replied " I think not"
Turned around and continued on with my game..
:partytime2:
Lets hear it..

The closest I have even been to getting hit came after I had gotten in the cart to leave the green. The guys behind me starting hitting just as we got off the green and as I got in my cart a ball hit the roof. No big deal. I thought it was kinda funny since the cart path on that hole was like 40 yards from the green.

I watched my Dad get hit in the forehead just below his hairline. Opened up a 1/2" gash and took 6 stitches to close it up...

Dropped him like he had been shot...

Friends dad overcooked a g wedge approach to the tenth green at our club and I got brained on the back of the head. Hurt like hell, he never said fore because he didn't think it would go that far.

I have been hit twice and the cart I was driving was hit while I was waiting for my partner to hit. The first one was a couple years ago while playing with some friends from the ice rink when one of them wound up from the rough, hit it off of a tree, and tagged me in the forarm. Just a little bruise. The second was my little bro-in-law who crushed one off of another tree (on the same course no less) and this one caught me in the ankle. Stung a little, but the bro=in-law refused to come out of hiding for awhile because he thought I would beat him down, like I could stop laughing enough to get mad!

I had a ball roll through my legs while I was on the tee once. Guy later came over and asked if I had seen his ball. No fore, no nothing.

I was playing with these kids, and a friend of mine was going to hit his approach shot. One of our playing partners hides behind his bag. When my friend was at the top of his backswing the kid behind the bag makes a grunting noise like a dieing animal. My friend looks up to see what the heck that sound was and he shanked the ball. He like completely missed the club face and hit the back of the hosel, like behind the club. Ball went strait left, just missing the kids leg. nailed me in the arm. had a pretty good size bruise for a few days. It didn't have a ton of speed but it had enough speed to roll out past 100 yards. I believe the kid shanked a 6 iron.

I was told that if I didn't take the ball, the kid standing behind me would have gotten hit in the head. after playing a couple holes, my playing partners said i should have let the kid behind me get hit because he was a complete pain and idiot during those holes.

Freshman year on the high school golf team, I was nearing the end of a bad tourney. I had probably lost 3 balls throughout the day and was on my way to a pretty high score. Hole #16 was a par 5, and I ended up loosing another ball on my second shot despite being in an area where it should have been found. I walked back and as I got ready to hit what was now my 4the shot, the other members of my group were about a 100 yards out in the middle of the fairway. I motioned to the group that I was coming at them and to move out of the way. One of the guys who was a junior from a rival school yelled back "Just hit the ball!". I preceded to catch a 3 wood just a bit low on the face that came out screaming. The guy who had yelled saw it was coming right at him and did one of those move left, move right juke moves as I was yelling FORE!!!! but just couldn't get out of the way. Ended up catching him right on the left knee cap as I watched him go to the ground. Long story short, he had to be carted off the course as he couldn't finish the round. Probably the only good shot that I hit all day long.

I got hit once, it was 15 yrs ago. It was early in the morning just tee'd off on a par 3 and just like that the sprinklers came on. I grabbed my clubs and ran away from the water. Just as a got away from it I turned around and my golfing partner was trying to beat the sprinkler. Lets just say he toed it and hit me in the head from 20 feet. I dropped like a ton of bricks, I was lucky I didn't get knocked out. I rolled around in pain and than got up with a huge knot on my head. I was so bad that my ball cap didn't fit on my head. The funny thing about it was my ball cap had a perfect ball mark with dimps and all on it.

Very timely thread - I was hit by a ball today. I swear that the darn thing had heat-seeking capability because it kept following me :cheesy:

Fortunately it was hit by a member in my group, and it was a soft wedge shot so I deflected it with my palm. Unfortunately for him, it went away from the green into deep rough with short trees in the way. We gave him a break and let him shave off a stroke when a branch blocked his subsequent pitch shot ;)

I have been involved in a couple of instances.

1. I was standing a little forward and to the right of one of my buddies in front of the 18th green waiting for him to hit is approach shot. He shanked his wedge right at me, yelled "fore", and I turned right into the shot, hit me right in the gut. Left a big welt that took over a week to go away.

2. We were playing Spyglass and were on the 10th hole. We were playing ready golf so me and another guy were walking up the right side of the fairway. We stopped as one of our foursome was hitting his 2nd shot. He shank/sliced it and it was going so fast, there was no time to move. The ball hit my buddy right in the nuts. He immediately doubled over and fell to the ground in pain. Its a good thing he already had all the kids he wanted :) Both guys ended up shooting over 100 that day, one due to the pain and the other due to guilt.

3. We were playing a muni course and 2 holes were side by side but playing in opposite directions. The other hole was also at a lower elevation (about 25 feet down). My buddy sliced his 2nd shot over the tree line separating the 2 holes towards the next tee box. He yelled "fore" but not very loudly. As we walked up to look for his ball, we see a foursome with a guy on the ground holding his head. My buddy's ball hit him square in the forehead on the fly while he was standing on the tee box. Luckily he did not have a concussion or anything too severe. Just a killer headache and a big knot right in the middle of his forehead. My buddy had to quit at the turn, he felt so bad.

I was hit in the head about 2 years ago with a skulled wedge shot from about 100 yards. The guy yelled fore left, which I assumed was his left so I ran about 10 feet in the opposite direction, turned my back and covered my head. Ball sliced right into the left side of my skull, just under the protection of my forearm. Didn't really hurt, just heard a loud ringing in my head. I looked at a playing partner, blinking very quickly, and then dropped to my knees. Had a pretty good sized gash in my head, which took 3 staples to close, and I had a slight concussion. Ball landed about 25-30 yards away from me, playing partners said they thought it hit the cart path, because it was so loud when it hit me. Could have been worse, the DR. at the emergency room told me that if the ball would have hit me 3 inches lower in a diagional direction, which was my temple, that it probably would have put me in a comma, or killed me. Didn't help that the guy who hit me used pinnacle golds, those things are like Rocks.

Couple of "near misses" for me.

1. One of my jobs at my club is to be the range ball boy. Only thing is I have to pick up the balls while groups of 8 hackers are trying their best to elevate the ball. They NEVER call fore. It's like they think I can keep track of 8 balls at once. And the number of times they thin it... gives me the shivers. Good pay though.

2. I don't know if this counts but one late evening on my clubs range me and my mates decided to have some fun. We got our golf umbrellas and stood on the range using them as shields as our lowest marker hit stinger two-irons at us. It's exilirating to say the least. We stopped when an umbrella began developing holes. :russian_roulette:

Yep, got hit with a golf ball by my playing partner. His ball ricocheted off the golf cart and hit me in the stomach and which left a nice little red round mark. We laugh about it to this day.

Yes. I went home on leave prior to retiring from the Army to look for work when I got out in my home town. I was playing a short par 4 with my brother and father up at Bangor Muni (Maine). My dad miss hit his tee shot and it barely made the fairway. My brother and I walked along the side of the fairway (in the rough) on the right side while my dad tends to his ball. My brother and I are talking about whatever and all of the sudden I am hit. Some how my dad does a total push of the ball with a 3 wood and hits me right in the back of my head. There was no "fore" yelled. Thank God. If he yelled fore I probably would have turned around to look and caught that ball square in the face. When the ball hit me I went to a knee and pulled off my hat. There was no blood so we kept playing.

Needless to say, I had a headache for the rest of the day. I am guessing that I had a slight concusion based on how I acted the rest of the day. I have had a concusion (or two) jumping out of airplanes so I am familiar with the symptoms. My dad plays the cheap hard balls rather then a nice soft Pro V1. That probably would not have mattered much to my head but I would like to think it would have. My dad felt like crap for the rest of my visit home.

Good times. I ended up getting a job here in Fayetteville North Carolina. I think that I am safer here.

Yes.

Many years ago with a full on-the-fly 3 wood from about 230 yards away.

The guy hitting the shot was unsighted, playing from behind a gorse bank and thought we'd cleared the green when he hit.

The first I knew was a stunning blow to the right side of my head - just behind my temple - and a sound like an enormous bell being rung in my entire head.

Amazingly, I remained standing throughout apparently, before some choice language all round and a spell of dizziness after a couple of minutes.

It meant a trip to the hospital and a precautionary X-Ray, but thankfully no damage.

It was at a high-end, private club, and the member who hit the ball (a local bigwig) didn't think it necessary to apologise, presumaby since our group was composed of juniors... His excuse to the pro afterwards was "they should have taken the time to signal that they had finished and left the green. How was I supposed to know they were still on the green?"

Unbelievable.

I often wonder if he would have used the same line to the police and/or the coroner had he killed me or one of the others in the group.

Never again...

My buddy and I were playing in a 4th of July corporate get together, he topped his drive and landed at about the forwards tees. He pulls out his 3 wood and I park the cart and walk a little head to see over a ridge in the fairway. I was about 5 yds ahead and 10 yds to the right of him at a place where I figured I would be in the clear. He smokes his 3 wood and right as he hits it I turned around to face him and it drills me in the right shoulder. I thought I was going to die, it brought me to my knees. I don't know if it was the laughing or the intense pain but I thought I was going to pass out. The next day I had a 8" bruise that lasted for about two weeks.

Good Times.......

I got hit once on my right forearm. I never saw it coming, and no one yelled a thing. Weird thing is that after I got hit, I had no idea where it came from because I looked around and couldn't see anyone. I moved around and finally noticed 2 guys standing on the tee box of the adjacent par 3. Weird thing is there are a ton of trees separating the fairways but somehow the ball managed to get through without so much as ricocheting off any of them. Had a big bruise for about a week. :black eye:

Too may close calls to count or explain. At least one of them recently where a guy sailed a ball right over my head (I didn't see it) ended up with the guy buying the beer in the bar - that was cool.

The one time I was hit a so called pro was trying to punch a 6 iron around a tree. I was standing to the right 20 yards in front. The ball ricocheted off the tree and caught me right in the back of my shoulder hard. I got a nice bruise, but I walked it off and played on. In that case, I got a free round of Spyglass out of it. So that was cool too.

I was playing OSU scarlet (the nicer course) one morning and was walking across the green taking my glove off. My putter was under my arm. Someone on OSU grey hit an errant shot onto my green, didn't yell fore, the ball hit the back of my elbow on the fly, my arm flew up and the heel of my ping anser 2 putter (under/over my arm) rammed right into the corner of my front tooth.

it didn't hurt that much, but the next few holes I had tooth dust in my mouth (the texture of which isn't very pleasant, coincidentally). Anyway, I looked like a redneck for a couple weeks...and I had to have my two front teeth ground down so they'd be even again. more tooth dust.

i was standing on the green practicing my putting stroke waiting for a partner's pitch out of a bunker. he bladed it and it drilled my putter shaft right below the grip. missed my thumb by an inch.. my hands were vibrating for the last three holes.

there is a par three that parallel's an oncoming par four. when we are driving our carts up the path i see the group tee'ing off so I speed up. the only way they could hit into us is with a severe duck hook. guess what. here it comes...almost slow motion. so i speed up and wave to the cart behind me. they speed up in time for the ball to fly right through their cart...missing both of them. it was crazy...it all happened so fast ...but so slow.....

we laughed about that one for 2 holes.

I don't understand why you didn't give the ball back. I mean it isn't like he hit it at you without a fore. I have never been hit by a ball, however when a ball does come close to me and i do hear a fore I will actually help the guy out with a nice lie. I mean honestly what would you prefer to go over to your shot, that was obviously a horrible one, and your ball is sitting pretty, or would you rather go over to your ball and see it stomped into the ground or better yet stolen. Golf is a game of etiquette, and if the guy had the decency to yell for then give him and the game respect. That is just my opinion, and I firmly believe in karma....

Exactly the same happened to a friend I was playing with - you could not hit the deck that quick if you tried, REAL scary.

On a related note, the toughest decision is whether to shout fore or not. Sometimes you can see clearly that the ball will just miss if the guy does not move - he will go mad if you don't call and just miss him but risk moving into it if you do. Tough choice!

Jean Van de Velde hit me right in the chest with a drive a few years ago at the Bellsouth in Atlanta. Never saw it coming, just hit me about 250 out and rebounded 50 yards back at him. Hurt like hell. He got up to the ball and was pissed off it travelled so far back. Real nice guy :russian_roulette:

you should've chucked it in the water and told him to hit it out of it.

Years ago (>15 years) when my driver was slicing big time, I teed off with my driver
with usual big slice to the right. Apparently there were guys putting on the green -- they were not
visible from my tee box. While we walked forward for the next shot, a big guy approached toward us
holding up his putter and asked who hit his buddy who was putting and now laying down with pain.
My ball hit hist ball and he collapsed momentarily.

Playing with a fraternity buddy of mine the our intramural golf tournament. 4th hole was a long straight par four. He was a big hitter so he waited for the group ahead to get closer to the green so he could hit. Next thing I know, he halls of and nuts one, and Im thinking there is no way he is going to hit anyone in the group ahead of us, but sure enough, he hit one of the guys in the group in front of us in the head on the fly. The guy drops like someone who had just be shot. We take off running and Im thinking this guy has just killed another person on the golf course. By the time we got down the fairway the guy was getting up, needless to say, by buddy didnt play well the rest of the round.

I was hit last year when a tee shot from a neighboring hole ricocheted through the trees and hit me on the hip. The was not aware I was there. Left a nice bruise for a week or so.

I hit Jesse the Body Ventura's golf car when I was 11 back in 1982. He was in town for some wrestling event. I was sacared to death. Had a few bodygaurds and some bimbos with him.

You know how sometimes they place fairways next to each other on some golf courses? Well one beautiful Saturday afternoon I was driving my cart along heading to the green when all of a sudden I hear a whizzing sound right by my left ear…my playing buddy yells out “that was a golf ball that just whizzed by you…” didn’t hear a fore or see anybody who might have hit the shot but deduced it was someone from the opposite fairway…

Man I can only imagine what would have happened if it was a few inches more to the left…it might have put out an eye….

Needless to say…I try to shy away from golf courses set up that way..and also put up the big plastic guard on the carts on courses like that…just in case…

I have been hit twice...My playing partner shanked it into the back of my right heel...that hurt for a few days.

The second time I got hit was really pissed me off. It happened where I work at Golftown. I was in the sim with some huge, fat chop who was trying out a Nickent hybrid. After every swing he would recoil back...such as he would get to the finish position with the club, and whip it back down one-handed to about the impact position or just past it to his right foot. So he keeps doing this, and I think nothing of it then I turn away as he hits yet another 20* hybrid about 165 but insists on a stiff shaft . So i turn away and out of the corner of my eye I see a white blur and than bang My head is ringing and my chin feels like someone ripped it off. I blinked away the sudden tears from eyes it hurt so bad and he didn't say anything to me...he had no idea. Then his buddy who was waiting outside starting laughing at me...I could have killed them both...he bought the hybrid regardless.

A friend of mine nailed one of the markers on the teebox and came back and hit me in the nether regions. That one hurt.

My good friend and common playing partner took care of both in one swing.
He tried to hit a hard hook around a tree with a 7 iron about 15 feet in front of him. He pulls it and the ball comes straigh back at him and hit him in the chest. It took the breath out of him, but he was all right. You could see the dimples from the golf ball.

I said "do you think you are Phil" he said he wished he was Phil, it might not have hurt so bad.

I have been hit, hit someone and hit myself!

All of the shots were no injury, so that is good.

The first time I hit a guy it was a playing partner and for some reason he was about 150 yards up the right side of the fairway. I hit a moon ball 3 iron and see it going right towards him. I yelled heads up (one of my first rounds, wasn't used to the FORE thing) and he proceeds to walk closer to it's path. It takes a one bounce and goes, I kid you not, into his shorts right at his rear end! That was a riot. It didn't hurt him and we kept playing. Second was simply a lob shot gone wrong and was a light tap.

I've been hit multiple times, (I play mostly munis) but the most hilarious was when I hit myself. I was in a grove of trees and trying to run the ball out. Of course, I catch a 3 iron on the sweet spot and it just lifts off. I couldn't get that club up if I had tried at that point in my career. It sails right to a low branch, bounces square and returns to hit my right in the thigh. I took the foot-wedge option for my next shot!

I came close a number of times to getting hit, but thankfully have not been hit yet.

I did however hit someone years ago. On the first tee, I roll one about 75 yards. I still had 225 plus to the green. The tee for the second hole was directly behind the first green and the two guys who had just walked off the green were getting ready to tee off on two. I hit a three wood that went screaming right at the green. When I yelled fore, one guy ducked, while his son turned around to see who yelled. One bounced it right into his stomach. The guy fell to his knees and then dropped flat on his face.

I could not apologize enough, but the guys dad said that he got what he deserved for turning and looking and that he wont make tht mistake again.

One of the funniest things I have ever seen is a guy playing at Lakeview in Morgantown, WV hit his drive into trees on a VERY downhill par five. The drive was so long that he would have had a chance to get home in two had the drive been in the fairway. Since he rarely ever got on in two on a par five he decided to try and thread a three iron though a gap. Needless to say he did not thread anything and hit a tree squarely enough to send the ball directly back in to his crotch. Once he got up and started moving around, no one else in the group could stop laughing long enough to hit another shot.
