I've tried in the last few months the G25, R1, & SLDR, all off the rack, & all w/ mixed results.  My irons are fit (loft & lie), but how do you get fit for hybrid, fairway, driver?  I keep reading on here to get fit w/ the proper driver shaft, but my club doesn't do shaft fittings.  I live about 45 min from a Golf Galaxy, but how do I know if I'm getting someone who knows what they are doing?  Any suggestions?

Everyone on here always goes on & on about this custom shaft or that custom shaft.  The same people knock the stock shafts in nearly every off the rack driver.  I'm ready to drink the kool aid & try to get fit, but I have no idea where to start.  Any suggestions?

Post the area around where you live and I'm sure you will get some suggestions.

Looked on TM website & they said Dick's in Oxmoore was an authorized fitter.  Went in & asked guy what different shafts they had for me to try & he said... and I'm not kidding...  "We have Regular or Stiff".  Needless to say I'm still looking.

Closest one is in Indy.  We do have a golf galaxy.  Do they know what they're doing?

Ik the golf galaxy by me blows, they were useless. They're owned by Dick's which also blows. When I asked the "fitter" at Dick's about the Callaway X irons he told me that guys on tour don't even used forged blades anymore. I think his words were "less than 25%" use forged irons...LOL. Just try to find a local pro shop. Around me the local pros are friendly and a lot more knowledgeable about the product. GL

Visit Jon Hoover in Indianapolis
http://www.woodwindg...emy/instructors

He has all the needed equipment to evaluate your swing and the shafts for you to try. I have known Jon for many years, taken lessons from him and know that he has successfully fitted many golfers of all levels.. I believe he has one of the best Junior programs in the State of Indiana.

I know its a drive but the fitters I know of are all in Indy. Golfsmith in Castleton in really good. Golf Solutions 360 in Zionsville is supposed to be great but I do not know anyone who has used them. There is also a Golf Tec in Carmel and Castleton.

Check with some of the upscale public or private courses in your area. Most of the pros at the upscale places can do a pretty good fitting.

25% sounds about right for the amount of forged bladesn (a bit high) on tour.  He might be clueless but that statement doesn't demonstrate it. Besides cast clubs have better feel. Why do think most wedges (i.e. vokey) on tour are cast?:)

Please don't turn THIS thread into a Cast vs Forged argument too.  There are plenty of other threads to jump in on that never ending debate.  Meanwhile, I have 2 shafts coming that I hope to try this weekend.  50 Phenom & 44 Magnum.  Anyone have any experience w/ either?

Also, the stock orange shaft on the original R1 says it's a Phenom.  Anyone know if that is the exact same shaft as the 50 Phenom RIP that I just ordered?  Thanks!

There are a couple thousand clubfitters out there, probably several hundred of them are competent and many of the rest will still do a better job than you will do by plugging in random shafts and going to out hit some balls or play a few holes. Unless you live TOTALLY out in the sticks surely there's a competent guy within an hour's drive who can do a fitting for you.

By the way I would not even jokingly say you're "ready to drink the Koolaid" and look for a high-$$$ shaft. There's no reason in the world to think a reasonably price shaft won't be what you find works just fine for you. If you go into it saying you want to blow 400 bucks they'll be glad to oblige you, most fitter see plenty of people who have no interest in even looking at something cheap and effective because they've got money burning a hole in their pocket.

No, I'm not saying I'm ready to spend $400 on a shaft.  I'm just saying everyone days to get fit, so that's what I'm going to do.  I'll probably just take a gamble & go to GG.
