Me and the wife are going on a belated honeymoon and she said I could get a round in while she has a spa day.  Anyone play golf in Puerto vallarta and if so which courses would you recommend?

I've played in puerto Vallarta a couple of different times. The vista Vallarta courses are both pretty solid but I think the weiskof course is better than the Nicklaus course. The nicklaus course has a lot more blind shots and very tough greens. El Tigre is another solid option if its in good shape. I've played el Tigre on two different trips and one time it was in great shape and the other time it was only in ok shape.  The other course is marina Vallarta and its pretty bad. Bad conditions and a poor layout.

Also Punta Mita if you can swing it- a little bit of a drive depending on where you are staying, but some great views and the awesome hole 3B (http://www.fourseaso...puntamita/golf/). I have only played the Pacifico, so I don't have a view on the Bahia but I hear it may be the better of the two (less memorable though because of 3B). Agreed on the Weiskopf as the top choice at Vista Vallarta. Big downside will be the price; it's definitely a lot more expensive than VV.

I played both of the Vista Vallarta courses a couple of years ago and enjoyed both of the them.  They're really very different layouts and each clearly reflects the design tendencies of the architect (Nicklaus vs Weiskopf).  I haven't played any other courses down there, but have nothing bad to say about VV.  I don't remember how much they cost, but I definitely remember thinking that it was a reasonable fee for the experience.  The only downside I had was getting bitten by a couple of fire ants on the palm of my hand after raking a bunker on the Weiskopf course; thankfully there were only a couple and not a big swarm of them!

I played the Vista Vallarta Nicklaus course a couple of years ago and had a great time.  It was relatively soggy (I think we were there in the "wet" season), but was in good shape with great views (jungle, mountain and down the moutain to the ocean).

The only issue you may have with Vista Vallarta is travel time, if you're staying at a beach side resort it's about a 20 or 30 minute car ride up the mountain to the golf course.

The Marina Vallarta course is very close to the beach side resorts, but I would NOT play it, unless you get a great rate or just want to play as quick as possible.  They had several holes closed on both nines the day I played and had me do some weird routing where I played several holes twice and only played one of the nines.  it was in awful condition.

I have and had a great time. Played it 5 days straight and would go back in a heartbeat!! its a challenge from the tips as its fairly long and bunkers, bunkers, bunkers. Not much water at all, but did I mention the bunkers? They are building a new club house so the routing will then make sense, the driving range is nothing much. The 13th hole is a Bi$%h.

Hope you enjoy!

I played El Tigre and Litibu.

El Tigre is in awful shape. The greens are bare and extremely slow. The layout is kinda repetitive, mostly doglegs with lots of water. I'd recommend the course, but not at $160usd and not in the condition it was in. Service is excellent and they have a nice range and putting green.

Litibu is freaking amazing!!! Great layout and even better conditions. The bunkers, fairways and greens were in impeccable shape. There wasn't a stone or a blade of grass out of place. The fourth hole is an epic par 3 along the ocean; bring your camera!! Range and putting green were passable. They are currently building the club house, which is supposed to be finished in Feb/March. Course is and felt new. I think it will only get better with time.

Just wanted to bump this if anyone sees it. I am heading down to Vallarta in April. How far is Litibu from the airport area? I see on maps that it says an hour or so but wanted to double check.

Has anyone played Flamingos? It's very close to where I'm staying. Haven't seen any mention of it.

Also any tips of getting a deal on green fees? I've seen some discounts on Golf Now day before but am wondering if there is something else.

Bumping the Flamingos inquiry (will be playing some wife golf so a long drive to Litibu won't be an option).

If you are close to Flamingos it's not much further to Vista Vallarta which was really nice.

Flamingos didn't look like it was very nice. Our resort was near it and we stopped in and looked around, decided to play Vista.
