Several of the 35" putters on display at my local Big Box store. Day or 2 early but, who cares!!

Just rolled a couple at the store and as I said they had 4 of the 35" out on the floor. Tried them all and this one was the most consistent. It does have a plastic piece on the bottom but, if you want to move weight away from the center out to the heel and toe, you have to replace it with something light and inexpensive. No problem with the sound so far. Might change on the course. Need to get it to the course and give it the full test.

I have one. 38-inch. I have never putted better. Fantastic balance, feel, weight. It almost putts itself. Stroking a putt is effortless. The putter holds it's line extremely well. I've been using it for a little over two weeks now (received it on my birthday). The counter-balance really works...at least for me.

I traded in my DDL for a Spider Blade Slant model. It looks and feels great but has not seen the course yet. I had trouble on longer putts with the DDL and am hoping to have a better go around with a more traditional looking putter.

I was at a GS today and noticed these for the first time.  Tried the 38 out and it felt amazing.  I have a Newport 2 that I've been gaming lately.  Would be a shame to put it aside, but the Spider Blade really felt good.  Had a lot of confidence with it in my hands.

I have SC Fastback 1, that I'm not using and just picked up a used Monterey thats yet to be delivered.  May have to sell 1 or 2 of these extra Scottys.

Messed with one today at Golfsmith.  Might actually like it better than the DLL.  Might also be lighter in the wallet by the end of the weekend.

Initial thoughts on the practice green:

• Gripping down doesn't feel as awkward as I would have thought.
• Pure Roll insert is as expected. Which is to say good. Some may not like it but, it doesn't ruin the feel for me.
• This combination does not feel head heavy at all to me. If anything I have found it necessary to pay particular attention to hand position on the grip. That balance point, the exact spot where head weight and counterbalance feel just right, is pretty specific on this putter. Maybe just me, I don't think so.

Then it started raining. So no big insights on distance control or alignment or off center hits. Just know it peaked some interest from the other nutjobs that were out in the rain with me! :golfer:

So what if I were to take that grip off and throw a superstroke 3.0 on there? Would it screw up the weight or roll of the putter?

Yes. The weight of the grip is what causes the counterbalance effect. It is meant to be choked down on. I guess if you wanted to buy the longer one and put on a 21" SS belly grip. Maybe that would have about the same weight to it....  Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

They are both toe hang, according to the TM site, 40* for the 12 and 60* for the 32.

If anyone has played the DLL and the Spider Blade, I would love to hear your comments comparing the feel and sound between the two.  I love the feel of the Spider S, but I really disliked the feel on the DLL.  The Spider Blade and DLL have the same plastic piece and use the same type of heavier grip as a counterbalance, so I'm guessing (with no hands on data) that they feel similar.

I just traded in my DLL after 3 rounds for Spider Blade. While 2 might share same insert material, they are at least different color and design. Two putters feel completely different. Loved how DLL rolled the ball, but felt 'hollow' at impact. I also had major distance control issues with DLL, but not with Spider Blade. Felt like with DLL, I had to 'tap' the ball, where as Spider Blade, I can swing at the ball. Spider Blade feels solid at impact.

Bought the Spider Blade Slant yesterday. Played 18 with it straight after. Really like the feel of this putter. I went with the 38" version, because I liked how it encourages the opening and closing motion of an arcing stroke. When my putting gets bad (which is often) I find the face closing on the way back and then staying closed on the way through causing a pull. Then I overcompensate and 'block' my hands through the putt creating a push. Those are really fun days.

I've used a belly putter in practice before because it helps to bring back the arcing stroke, but I hate using it on the course. The Spider Slant gives me exactly the benefit of the belly but feels almost like using a normal putter.

I play off 3, and yesterday shot 75 with this putter. Was 5 over after 8, then played the next 10 in 2 under with 4 birdies. Took a little while to get used to the putter, but once I did it was money.

The good:

- Feel is better than I expected, although it does sound like you're hitting a tin can.
- Very, very solid on putts under 10 feet. Could definitely sense it was going right where I pointed it.
- Encourages the opening and closing arced stroke that I like.
- Very consistent across the blade (I tend to putt off the heel side). The high MOI does seem to work.
- Good roll. Grooves/insert seem to be doing their job.

The less good:

- Sounds like a tin can when you hit it. Doesn't bother me, but might bother some of you.
- Can catch the butt in your clothes/belt if you're not careful. Stick your own butt out more!
- Distance control on lag putts is challenging. I had to consciously hit the ball harder to get it to the hole. However, it was very consistent in distance so I think I'll quickly get used to this. Would be great on very fast greens I think.

The strange:

- Noticed this morning that after only one use, the black paint or glue that is above the insert has started to come off. You can't see it from address and it doesn't affect the strike as far as I can tell, but definitely something I'll be keeping an eye on.

All in all, a great putter if you have struggled the way I have in the past and don't mind a putter sounding like a tin can.

For now, it has kicked a Bettinardi BB1 out of the back for reference purposes.

Hi I'm coming from a 35" Ping #1 milled -  I had a 38" tank but found the extra length hard to get used to so I traded for the 36" spider blade - wow I can really feel the stability of the SB when I stroke puts on the practise green when I compared to my Ping,

I took them both when I played on Saturday .

Started with the SB - well boom a 20 ft right to left down hill slider on 1 - birdie
on 4 a  a 6 foot down hiller that I could yip - not with the SB felt real steady - made it birdie
and a straight uphill 15ft on 5 another birdie - ended the front 9 with 13 putts

needless to say i didnt bother taking out the Ping --i'm a happy Spider Blader!!!!

tried this today at my club.

inside 10 feet felt automatic, a lot of confidence with it, probably missed 4 total within 10 feet during 30 minutes of fooling around with it.

10-20 feet was iffy, made about 50%, below average for me.

outside of 20 feet was killer for me, I just could not get speed down with it.

Tried this today at my local PGATSS (both the long and standard model), and wasn't too blown away with it.  I like the looks and counterbalance grip, but it still had the same "twist" as a regular non "super-high moi" putter.  Plus, I've never been a fan of the black pure roll insert.

Has anyone heard if there will be any replaceable weights of different sizes made available.  They appear to be removable with the standard TM wrench.

As was mentioned above, i'm curious if anyone has regripped one of these with a Superstroke and which one did you go for? Did it mess up the balance of putter in your mind after the re-grip?

I don't know about the percentages, but this is exactly how I feel about my Ghost Manta.  I have been making more short putts than ever, but I'm also getting into 3-putt position more from further away because my distance control isn't good, so its mostly canceling out the shorter makes.  I think it is part due to the pure roll insert (though of course probably mostly just my putting).
