Has anyone played golf course that uses black sand on them instead of the standard white sand for the bunkers.
I know only the Bears Best in Vegas hole #4 and http://www.oldworks.org/index2.aspx

I played the Old Works course in Anaconda Montana. The black sand plays great. The ball comes out really easy with the thicker grained black slag sand and spins well. Oh and the course is excellent and cheap too!!!

Yeah we drove out there a few years back. The only problem is that the Old Works course is the only really great course in Montana. We played a few others, Northern Pines if I remember right and a couple others and they were not that great.

The black sand almost looks like water. I haven't played in it, but it sure looks weird. At least it wouldn't be hard to find your ball in the bunker.

I think the Bear's Best outside Atlanta has it on a few holes as well.

That black sand looks awsome. Wish more courses would have that!

I thought about using it in the course we are building, BUT seeing how we are in Texas, I didn't want to kill someone that hits their ball in the bunkers. July/August Texas heat and humidity black bunker sand = melted shoes/ball and heat stroke. Not a good situation.

Yeah. I guess that would ruin a round, if you had to remove a melted golfer from the bunker..

But its give a course such a different look.... maybe do it on a nice par 3 as showcase...

we Have it on our course Bears Best on holes #4 and #11, its actually mining slag from the copper mines of Montana, plays incredible, sort of like wet sand, ball comes out fast and spins a ton. we hear alot of positives from the guests that visit the course on those 2 holes
