Just a warning for my Wrx brothers, this companies customer service is a joke at best.  If you don't believe me call skycaddie right now and see how long the wait is to talk to someone..  45 minutes for the last 5 business days!!!!!!!!!   The sgx is a good product all in all, yardages are off a little here and there but I like my sgx besides its broke twice in 7 months so I had to pay the 90.00 replacement fee twice!!!  so 180.00 for that, 299.99 for the sgx, 99.99 for the 3 year membership..  This is adding up quick...  If you have a skycaddie pray you never have to deal with the customer service part.  If you don't believe me call them yourself..

I've got (in a draw) the SG2. I learned long ago about their not so acceptable customer service.

On a side note:
When I bought the unit, I know I was stupid, I had no clue the fee was not a one time fee. Had I known it was a yearly fee... the SG2 would not be sitting in a draw. I'd have never bought it.

That's why I use a rangefinder. I'd like to have one of those electronic gizmos, but I hear too many stories like this, not to mention software problems, battery life issues, etc. Seems more a hassle than anything else.

I've had the same experience and came here to spread the news as well. My SGX stopped reading distances and they will do nothing about it, not even refund the rest of my subscription. Terrible customer service and the call times are spot on (45 minutes)!

Good bye Skycaddie. I'm looking for a rangefinder now.

That's another reason I went over to Golf Buddy.  Not going back to Sky Caddie.

Got the opposite experience...used to have the SG2.5 and had one issue with the distances being way off on a course (was less than 100 out and it was saying I was 186...). Customer service helped me reset it and get it working almost immediately. Have since upgraded to the SGXw and while I haven't had any problems with it per se, I had an issue with something I bought from the SkyGolf store. Hopped online, and did the live online help window and was helped in less than 5 minutes.
Not saying they don't have their customer service faults, just YMMV when it comes to any company's customer service.

I agree that their customer service does not match the quality of their products.  An advantage they have over the competition is that if the product is lost or stolen, it's worthless.  I recently had mine stolen while playing a public course.  I went home and deactivated the SGX.  A miracle occurred and an employee found the GPS a week later.  If he had been a le to use the product I don't think I would have ever seen it again.

I have an SGX and it works fine, no problems. I bought a Skypro and got their customer service in about 3 min. today at the range.

My skycaddie sgx is having difficulties charging.  My golf buddy has the sgxw that is having the same exact issue.  We were both told to send them in for replacement but they would cost $85 if I remember correctly.  Seems like it is a common issue but their only fix is to charge you for a reconditioned replacement.

Been a skycaddie member and subscriber for 5 years, never an issue.  Last March I upgraded from my SG5 to an SGXw.  Last weekend, the unit quit recieiving GPS signal, while in a craddle attached to a cart.  Unit is in perfect shape and has never been dropped or abused.

I contacted skycaddie, through their on line live chat (very easy and fast to use).  After trying to do a hard reset and multipe GPS resets, it was determined that the GPS antenna has failed.  I figured skygolf would replace the unit, NOPE.  As a loyal customer they offered me a "refurbished" replacement unit at the discounted price of $90.  I was furious.  I have been a 5 year subscriber and purchased 2 units and multiple accessories, and this is the thanks you get.

I understand the equipment only comes with a 90 day warranty, but an extended warranty would not have covered this.  I don't understand how a $400 electronic device falls after a season and a half.

Needless to say Skygolf is losing a customer.  Once I receive the new unit, it's off to Ebay.  Time to find another GPS.  Any recommendations?

I'd say the Upro MX+ which because of some serious discounting I recently purchased. It works fine. The font can be enlarged for those of us with old eyes but the part that shows carry distances, etc. is not user friendly (IMO).
Had it to do over... I'd not have bought it. And because I'm among the SkyCaddie haters, they are out. Even though they do have the most functional easiest to see GPS unit.
My Callaway/Nikon laser is still the easiest/quickest yardage device I've found.

I have a SG5, but got so tired of the yearly subscriptions and downloading courses on the computer then hooking up the SG5 that I finally got off that bandwagon. I now have a Leopold laser and a Golf Buddy Voice. No downloading anything, no extra yearly charges. I like it. SkyCaddy can go under for all I care.

Since returning to using only the Skycaddie instead of using both the Skycaddie and laser, my game has improved. My course management is much better. Instead of focusing on one yardage from the laser, I am looking at where I want to hit and the yardage range I want to hit. The result has been more greens hit and less putts because I am hitting the ball to right place on green.

Has anyone had an issue with the trackball on the sgxw?  Mine is less than a year old and it just stopped working today.  Can't scroll at all on the unit making it worthless.  Couldn't find a phone number for skycaddy so did the chat and the guy offered me a replacement "like new" unit for no charge.  They still took my CC# to make sure I return the broken unit.

We'll see if it shows up and if I really don't get charged.

This really sucks, my HUGE golf vacation that I take every year starts tomorrow!  I am so pissed off right now!

Zer0 - The issue with my SGXw was the internal GPS antenna.  Unfortunately Skygolf will not warranty any equipment outside of the warranty period (90 days or 1 year if you buy a protection plan).  My unit was just over a year old and in perfect condition.  Skygolf would not work with me and I was forced to purchase a "refurbished" unit at a cost of $90.  The good news it only took 3 days to get it.

It's obvious that the purchasing of over $700 in equipment (SG5 and SGXw) and $300 in yearly subscriptions has no influence on customer service.  Needless to say my search for a new GPS provider/equipment has begun!  Take care Skygolf!

I did the "upgrade" trade in for a Sky Caddie Breeze largely because my wife  uses the 'ball mark' feature alot. I have never dealt with customer service as poor as theirs. I should have known better having owned an older model for about four years. I could not synch the unit because I did not download the newer software, but customer service couldn't tell me this. I finally told the young lady  was dealing with that I was not "Johnny Cipher" and that they were supposed to be the experts, not me!!  t takes forever to get them on the phone and once they are it is usually very painful. I guess I only have myself to blame.

Don't know if you purchased a new one yet, but i made the switch to a golfbuddy world platinum from a skycaddie....never been happier. 40,000 pre-loaded courses that can be updated online.  Flawless yardages, turn it on and it finds course automatically. Worked all over US and in Ireland.   No subscription fees. Rechargable Has never died on course during 18, i bought an extra generic rechargeable battery on amazon for $11.  I don't know how Skycaddie stays in business with terrible customer service, and high annual subscription fees.  I wanted to trade up to a newer skycaddie model(Their trade-in program is a joke) and they told me they would give me $15 for the model i had towards new one...WTF! Also, If you get a malfunctioning unit they punish you the consumer for their mistake on an expensive product that should work properly.  I won't be back either.

Join the revolution Brother...switch to a Golf Buddy world platinum, or a garmin G5/ G6.  Forget Skycaddies ridiculous annual subscription fees(what...do they think they are a monopoly like AT&T in the 1960's/70's??) and their notoriously horseshit customer service.

my skycaddie wont hold more then a 10 minute charge now SGX after about a year.  Stupid me paid the 3 year program, oh well lesson learn the skycaddie is in the junk box and I'm a 100% laser man now.  Skycaddie will be out of the golf world in no time.

How often did you use your SGX? The lithium polymer batteries used in the SGX (along with many products today) wear out with usage and recharging, not time. A person that uses their SGX three or four times a week could have their battery last only a year. A person like me that uses their SGX 30 to 40 times a year, could have their battery last for a very long time.

Skycaddie has a very good back in play program to replace your battery. They will send you a replacement SGX with you courses loaded for $90.

Their customer service needs help. But, not as much as does their gps watch. They were real good about sending me a new one, three times, (very expeditiously too i must admit); after the third one i gave up and did what all my buddies did. I got a Garmin, end of problem. I called sky-customer svc. twice and asked if there was anything they could do, they more or less said "naaah".
