Hit the new Cleveland Classic XL 15.5 degree 3 wood (S flex)  earlier at a driving range that had some available for demo. It looked great and so I had to try it, even though the last Cleveland I owned was a sand wedge 11 or 12 years ago. Haven't hit any recent offerings other than last year's driver, which was pretty nice.

All I can say is wow, really. I have not hit a fairway wood that is straighter and more forgiving, maybe ever.

I was fairly sure that I was going to go for one of the RBZ Stage 2 tour high launch, which I was hitting very well, but the Cleveland may find its way into the bag.

If the 5 wood is equally good, it may even knock my 2 hybrid out!

I will note that I did not get accurate distances at this particular driving range, but I doubt it was much shorter than a comparable loft in the RBZ, while being MUCH more accurate.

The club looks fantastic and very understated without big bright colors. Deep face but the head manages to look very compact.

Most impressive is the accuracy. I don't know if I have the terms right, but the Classic XL seems to have the "gear effect" which is commonly talked of in persimmon woods. I'm not sure if it is the roll and bulge of the face or what.

But for whatever reason, balls hit on the heel or toe (had a few of each) worked their way back towards the centerline.

Very good club and wondered if any WRXers had experience with these?

I held one in my hands at Golftown yesterday, was impressed, it reminded me of real persimmon woods from the good old days.

I love my Classic XL 3-wood. And the Custom driver is the best I've ever hit. I haven't driven the ball this well in 30 years.

Bumping this...

Any updates?? I really like the shape of these woods.. Reminds me of the sq2 with a bit flatter sole.

in terms of the 15.5* spin-launch, distance...? Anyone put another shaft in it or is the x-con perform well?

And someone just had to let the secret out on these XL fairway woods!

I have been looking to replace my existing 5 wood (Exotics Trilogy) and best I have hit was the Classic XL 5 wood with the stiff shaft. Great accuracy, good launch and feel too. Now, on the other hand, the 3 wood is just too deep for my taste and still prefer my Tour Edge Exotics CB2 tour.

I read on the "club test" that these heads are extremely draw biased... has anyone found this to be true? How is the stock shaft? I'm guessing its not the real Matrix?

On a whim I bought the 15.5 loft classic xl 3 wood and couldn't be happier...stupid easy to hit off the deck and great off the tee. It does have a slight draw bias but the weighting is such (heavier in the head) that I hit consistent baby draws all day long. First 3 wood I've played in a long time that inspires confidence. Highly recommend this club.

This is the deepest FW I've seen. I'd say it's GREAT if you want a secondary option for tee shots. I'd be scared to hit the thing off the deck though.

I hit one of these today and it was VERY nice.  It has a nice deep face but it nice and small.  It's a tight little package, no markings on the top or anything.  I'd love to put a UST VTS shaft in it and see what it would do.  Slight draw bias is fine with me on my 3 wood.  That club is currently out of my bag right now, though there are time I could use it.  Might have to take a flyer and get one.

The classic 3w will be my next purchase its a good 10 yards longer for me off the tee with it than my current one.

I found the club to look closed at address, but the weighting of the head combined with a more compact look seem to have me hitting decent draws. When I first put the club down I had snap hook on the mind (looked very closed compared to other options), but I was impressed with how easy it was to launch off the deck with such a deep face.

whats the consensus on the launch? High or mid? Got the 14* and debating what shaft to try. Leaning towards the Black 72

Definitely not high. More mid-trajectory. I play mine with a NV 75X and its a gem. Been espousing the virtue of this club for a long time.

I may have to get one of these to try. They are pretty much giving away the XL 3 woods at my local GolfTown. It is the 5 wood that I really want though.

I would have a hard time not putting one of these in the bag if it wasn't for my 3 deep.

The 14* XL absolutely crushed a 13* 3Deep in a head to head I did. No comparison in terms of feel, forgiveness and distance.

I have a Cleveland Classic 310 with Kusala Black 72x. Lovely, piercing low-spin low-launching monster :)

im leaning towards a custom 10.5. Was kicking around the 12* non custom for a thriver but that screws up the loft spacing

I wasn't able to try the XL with the same shaft as I did the 3 deep which may have had a lot to do with it. I hit a very high ball and the 3 deep with a whiteboard shaft has been a monster for me. Right off the ground from the tee box I can finally hit into the wind tee shots without losing 50 yards. If I can get my hands on an XL with a whiteboard i'll have to try it.
