Is there a way to get your handicap when you are not a member of a course or country club?

The handicap is determined with a calculation using the slope, course rating, and your score. Its then averaged. Here is a link to a calculator that will do it for you.

Handicap Differential = ((Adjusted Gross Score - USGA Course Rating) x 113 / USGA Slope Rating)

Are you asking about how to establish one??? You can try sites like, amateurgolf.com, where your local affilate may be a member of the USGA. Otherwise you will need to belong to a club that has a physical presence.

I know of no free way to establish a USGA handicap.

Most public courses will let you establish a handicap with them for a small fee whether your a member or not. The one's in my area usually charge around 20-25 bucks a year for it.

If I'm not mistaken, when you sign up for GolfTracker on tgc's website they provide you with a USGA index.

I believe there's a bunch of places on-line that will keep a handicap for you....just not an official USGA handicap.

Try www.golfhound.com; I've used them and have a bunch of friends who do as well.
