Just want to know if people think the R1 is a decent step up from the R11? Going to try it out soon to see if it worth swapping out the R11 I've had in my bag for the last couple of years.

I have the original R11 and to me the R1 felt a bit clunkier (440 vs 460cc). I wasn't a fan of the graphics on the crown nor did I see any drastic improvements in distance (about 4 yards on average). The new headcover looks cool though.

There really is not  that big of a difference, sure a few more adjustments which is not going to help you see any big changes as the sole plate is different but it's more of a gimmick as it doesn't change the face as much as it helps you see address differently. You will need to read all the tech talk about it & see for yourself. Graphics are busy but I'm sure after playing it your not going to notice it. Anyone who has an R11s might not see any reason to buy the new R1 except for only having the latest, newest, & according to TMAG the longest (not) adjustable driver ever.

I put the R1 head to head with my R11s and even put the shaft out of my R11s in the R1 and the S spun less, and was actually 2-6 yards longer on average. Out of 10 balls the R1 did have the longest drive I hit on the simulator but consistently the S was longer. Im sticking with it for the year.

Now you can equate this to me being familiar with the S head or even with the shaft not being optimum for the R1 but it definitely saved me 500 bucks this year...hahah. Who am I kidding ill spend that somewhere else :taunt:

The feel and sound of the R1 are superior to the R11, and even to the 's'.
If that's important to you, then it might be worth the switch, but it's not going to gain you a ton of distance

Keep the R11 in the bag buddy, I know I did. No goofy graphics on the crown, or massive 460cc head to deal with. Unless you can't live without 200,000 different settings you will use once, then I think you are good to go with the R11.

For what it's worth, I saved a bunch of $ by leaving the R1 at the shop and getting a new shaft for the R11 on the BST.

In my hands the R1 is far superior. My spin is down considerably.

The r1 spins way less than the r11s and doesn't sound like glass breaking. I spent 4 hours on trackman with the r1 and numerous shafts.

I disagree. So does the taylormade rep in my state. He said the r1 launches lower but spins more, and I found that to be true when I was on trackman with them. I spun the r11s 300 rpm less than the r1. Granted, my r11s isn't a retail r11s.

The r1 is defiantly lower launching. I was hitting my r11 8* in the lowest setting. I'm playing my r1 at the 9.5 setting with the asp set to open. I tried multiple shafts in my r11 and couldn't get the right launch angle. The r1 with the stock phenom is doing good for now. I'm sure I will tinker with the shafts though. It's only natural right. :)

I was looking for a post like this 2 days ago. Currently playing an R11 and took an R1 out yesterday. It was lower spin and launch for sure, but probably somewhat due to the shaft. R11 has a Motore Speeder 6.1, while the R1 had a Tour Spec Motore Speeder 6.2. Needless to say it was a little longer than my R11, but much more consistent and much tighter ball pattern (added forgivness was a plus as well). Played with my R11 again today and there was no comparison. Ordered an R1 immediately after the round. Like I said most of it may be due to the shaft, but that combo just works great together.

It doesn't 'blow it out of the water'
The heads arent really all that different.
r1 launches lower and spins more.
r11s launches marginally higher and spins less.

Seen enough people on trackman with it to know that.

If it fits him better, it MIGHT be ten yards longer.

+1 save the money and get a killer shaft for the R11. I put a GD DI-6 into my R11 and I have never hit a better combo, including the R1 with mutiple shafts

IMO the R11 with it´s 440cc is still one of the best drivers out there.

Combined with the right shaft it´s a solid bomber.

I'll still be playing the R11 this year. I love the smaller head and with the right shaft, it is just as good as any of the new drivers.

For me the R1 spins quite a bit less than both the R11 and the R11S. The R1 is a very good driver.
Maybe the Taylormade rep that said it didn't forgot to paint his face.....

Comparing stock R1 vs 11/11s, the R1 is a straighter and marginally longer head. I personally dislike the 460 head but the results from numerous Trackman sessions and a dozen rounds have borne this out. If you have the right shaft in either of the previous models, it'll compete with the R1 all day long and in some instances, beat it. For instance, I've hit a Dot Head with a Black Tie and the launch/spin were lower than the R1/OKW. I also have a 11S v3/6.3TS which will put up better numbers but playing it day-to-day, the R1/OKW consistently finds more fairways (meaning straighter) and consistently a yard or five longer. So, you can spend a ton of time and money to find the right combination for what you already have or go try the new stuff and see if it works better for you.

I have a R11 with 10.5 degrees of loft and has  a Project x 8A4 7.0 with taylor made graphics .Its a very nice low spin /launch combo that works in the high cold winds of the UK .I was quite happy with it as I have tried several shafts until I settled with this combo ,that was until i couldnt refuse the new R1 ,so i have ordered the R1 with an X matirix ozik black tie 7M3 .Can anyone throw an imput on the comparisons as i did the daft thing and ordered it blind ,my ss is 120 .

I had to decide between r1 or a new shaft in my r11. Didnt see enough performance gain to fork out $450+ on a new driver. Put an aldila dvs in the r11 and hit it with a great ball flight for me and more distance than stock shaft. IMO I would just stick with the r11 or reshaft if you need to. Buy the r1 if you want just a new club from Tmag or 170000 settings

I bought the R1, hit ten balls with it and a crack appeared on the crown betwen the hosel and the logo.  Taylomade replaced it through the pro shop's account and I'm picking the new one up today.  I was playing the R11S, which I love, and I'm looking for a little additional yardage with the R1.  I'm getting the R1 fitted tomorrow at Golfsmith.  The drives I did hit with the defective R1, based on self-adjustments similar to what my R11S were set to,  were in the fairway, but not noticeably longer.  I'm hoping the fitting will change that.  Ten to twenty yards would be nice.
