So who watched the first episode tonight? I caught the re-air after playing some hockey and was really impressed with the new format of the show. I feel that they got a bigger budget, some new producers and writers, and really did an excellent job with the first episode. I always felt the older series were a bit campy and just not all that interesting, but the solid writing and narration really improved the overall feel of the show now.

Haney definitely has his hands full with Phelps' swing. I wonder how it turned out or will turn out if they haven't completed production of the series. The guy's arms are so long he should be able to generate some high club head speed with that arc. Good stuff!

I haven't watched the show, but in one of the promo commercials, they show Phelps throwing a white driver.  Anyone else saw or noticed what I'm referring to?  I don't know whether to comment on his behavior or the equipment.  Which driver was it?

Phelps has a attire contract with Under Armor.  I'm pretty sure he is ALSO spronsored by Taylormade (and wears adidas shoes - Taylormade again) for his equipment for the show.

I'm a little taller than Phelps but he has crazy long arms and out of this world flexibility.  First time I saw him swing I said to myself...Haney will shorten that takeaway up in a heartbeat.  His lower body is also really noisy, I'm sure they'll work on that as well.

Didn't Phelps just sign a new contract to play all Ping clubs?

You are right, he did...I guess?  I tried to link the artilcle but it won't let me copy and paste.  That whole white driver threw me off.  He plays the G25 supposedly.

Yes.  I'm sure they'll figure out a way to put a G25 driver in his hands eventually.

Haven't seen it yet, dvr'd it. My guess regarding the gear is that most of this show was filmed months ago. His deal with PING is fairly recent, so my guess is since HH is a TM staffer, Phelps got hooked up with TM clubs.

Anyone catch the old footage of Hank with the Nike hat?  The swoosh on his hat got pixeled out.  I guess that means TM is kicking in some dough?

I'm guessing this was filmed before the PING deal and he was TaylorMade(d) at the time due to Hank's show.  Hank is a TaylorMade guy.

That simply means nike did not pay for any advertising during the show airing.....not unusual at all for thew GC.

This was filmed before the PIng deal, In fact episode one featured sometime with Phelps play in a proam before the ryder cup last september.

The new format I feel features  a bit more education for the potential new viewers  that may or may not have any golf experience and are tuning in for Phelps, rather than Haney, golf or the golf channel.

Phelps is 6'4" with 32" inseam and 38" sleeve length. Apparently he has the perfect physique and dimensions for swimming.

He's built like a fish.  Long torso long arms.  I've never heard of another 6'4" guy have a 32" inseam thats insane.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling because they are trying to capture a little more of the "non-golf" crowd that its being filled with some fluff pieces, ie.  Denzel, Jordan, etc.  Ho

Haney can't teach.  Same old same old, have a guy hit hundreds of balls when he is exhausted, how does this help.

They showed some ryder cup footage and i realized how long ago the footage was taken and the time it took to get to actually air. i'm guessing Phelps' play at the pebble beach pro am was post Haney coaching? is this correct?

Hank has a good track record of helping already great players get even better, but I wonder if he has the ability or energy to make a decent player out of a crappy one.

They require different ways of going about the improvement process, and his track record with the Barkleys and Romanos of the world isn't great…

I hope Hank actually helps Michael's swing.  He couldn't get Charles to quit the head bob, didn't get Ray Romano to break 80, and didn't seem to help out those 4 celebs from the last show.  (I didn't watch the Limbaugh series).  Maybe Hank should stick to teaching the tour guys, he seems to struggle with hacks.

curious to see the thoughts from actual instructors on this site on haneys methods of teaching. not necessarily on the type of swing, but how he goes about fixing the swing or which parts he chooses to fix first .does the 100 swings without a ball really help? maybe opinions on what you would focus on in helping phelps. looks like hank is starting off with the backswing starting more on plane and shortening the swing. is this the approach other instructors would start with with phelps or similar student.
