Bought this old oil can from play it again sports for 10 bucks. It being a raw metal i thought it was the perfect candidate for a black ox finish. months ago i ordered all the stuff from canswell. i refinished it like i would any club, them dipped it in the solution and then used a fine steal wool to apply the pentrating sealer. then i added paintfill. im pleased with it.

Thanks guys. ..... My experience with the canswell solution is that it will only get a certain dark. U can't leave it in it more than 5 mins, but it turns as black as its going to get after probably 2 mins, maybe not even that long. After I dried it with a blow dryer I put it back in the solution to c if it would get blacker but it just stayed the same color. So to answer your ? There is only a certain darkness that can be achieved. But next time I'm going to use birch wood Casey perma blue. I have a friend that used it and it seemed to be a little darker. It is also cheaper. The one good thing about the canswell solution is that they give u a 3 gallon bucket and once mixed it has a 1 yr self life, so I can just keep using it over and over again.

Does this affect the grooves at all?  I guess if it did it would wear off quickly.

Look great though!
