Does it annoy anyone else that these clowns go on commercial explaining how they play the newest product from the company they represent when in fact they don't?  Last year it was Justin Rose during the week of Doral proclaiming how he played a driver "longer than R11", when in fact he won the freaking tournament with his R11 non S version.  This year it's Jason Day saying how he plays a distance iron and after a 200+ yard 7 iron "yeah I put it in the bag".  The whole week he's been playing the TP MC irons.  I get it, I really do.  I know it's all about benjamins, but dear heavens couldn't they just say how great the irons are and leave it at that?  Why do they have to something that really isn't true?

Not to mention the face paint lmao....

Gotta give it up to TMAG, they get your attention.  They also have a staff of some pretty darn good players making their equipment look good.  Jason Day was pounding that R1

"I play a distance iron [on occasion] [all the time] [right before I film a commercial]."

Which did you think he meant?  Buyer (listener) beware.

Haven't seen that commercial. I agree the TM marketing is way too much but those guys are entitled to switch their equipment as they see fit, just like the rest of us club skanks.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday when I seen the TP MC's in play. I had a Taylormade driver for all of about 3 weeks and almost threw up on it every time I hit a drive. It just made me feel so dirty. haha

I know it is a past time of some to hate on TM, but pretty much all the OEM's do this. They are merely using some of their best known players to market their new product. Only people like us who have nothing better to do than analyze exactly what each player is carrying in his bag is going to notice that he has different irons in play.

It's called marketing. And I highly doubt it was Jason Day's idea to shoot that commercial.

I could care less.A tour pro can hit any club and hit it well so no big deal.Lee Trevino used to bet people with a coke bottle and a shovel and I would never try that.
This has been going on for years with all kind of products. The pros do not play clubs off the rack.

What we hear: "Yeah, I put it in the bag."

What we don't hear: "Then I took it right back out."

50% of the players in that commercial are no longer "playing a distance iron".

Yes he did.  And I was pulling for him as I love his swing and his game.  I still think it's stupid to say something that's not true.  Like I said, they can say how great they are and how everyone should play them.  I just think it's a bit disingenuous to say they're playing them when they're not.

The other OEMs almost never say a player is playing a specific club. Nike could have made commercials with Tiger saying how he uses the Covert or the 20xi ball and most people would not know any different. But they don't and won't do that. TMAG is making claims that these players are using these specific clubs and they clearly are not.

Criticizing TM for putting out disingenuous marketing isn't my past time.  I was just pointing it out.  And yes it seems to happen more with them than with others.

noticed JD playing the mc's this week as well, and the commercial running quite a few times during the tourney.  its not the end of the world or anything but i was sorta disappointed as TM is not giving us the truth and using lie's to sell product.  some of their stuff is definitely good.  i have an r9 4w that is never leaving my bag but i wont buy anymore of their gear.  ive hit the r1 and it feels great but im not fond of the graphix on the head.  i like to try a lot of gear and sell the stuff i dont keep and TM's turn around with new stuff kills the value so fast for previous models i just stopped buying their stuff.

He's a paid spokesperson promoting the companies current product line.  OMFG Why is anyone surprised?  Imagine if Lebron was seen with an iPhone and not a Note II, the android nerds would be up in arms just the same.  Give me a pay check and I'll promote anything you want, outside of the studio my life is my life.  Do you actually believe all the celebrities Windows hired to promote WP 8 are actually using a HTC 8X or Nokia, hell no they aren't using that POS, not unless they don't use any apps.

Good point.  And not only is TMAG requiring their players to state they are playing a particular iron, they are telling them to suggest that they are playing it based on a quality it has…distance…which isn't something tour players really care about.  It's something only a 20 handicap would think is important (TMAGs target market)

THAT is the annoyance.

And even if he were playing it( which he wasn't) their equipment has as much to so with the standard models as Danica Patrick's race car has to do with your Chevy...

It's why the discussion about bifurcation is moot....there are already two sets of equipment...

When Rory McElroy (and probably others) have custom made formulas for their golf balls, and rocket scientists are available to fine tune a Pro's equipment the conversation is pretty much over...

I for one liked it the "old" way...where there was some corrolation between  a Pro's equipment and ours...

Agreed, the bulk of golf advertising isn't meant for the Wrx'er......One shouldn't get offended, some OEM's are worse than others.

Not to fan any fire on the flames here, but did anyone notice the Callaway comercials this past weekend.  They actually had a small caption at the bottom to show that what was advertised wasn't what the tour pro actually plays.   (Luke List plays Callaway Razr X Muclebacks while in competition.)   I thought that was a real class move that should apeal to the whole audience.

Actually, Shaq was driving a Buick SUV last week in Maryville when I saw him. 100% no joke.
