So I was a little disappointed today to see that #GolfWRX only has 30 photos on Instagram. With as many members as we have (145,000+) and as large and mainstream as Instagram is, I was hoping that number would be higher. That said, make sure to tag your golf related photos #GolfWRX be it on course shots, new clubs, anything golf!

Also, shameless self promotion of my Instagram account (as is linked in my signature) ---> http://instagram.com/bjackson2718

I would say this is mainly do to the fact that it is starting to become "cooler" to NOT have these types of accounts anymore. And by that I mean to be "off the grid" so to speak. I would say about 50% of the people I stay in contact with have cancelled facebook, instagram, twitter, etc.

Could just be me, or my location, but is anyone else seeing this trend??

Where in Nor Cal are you? I'm a Silicon Valley native so I think it would be anything but 'hip' to not be connected on these networks. Sure I know people who have deactivated their facebook accounts, but staying connected via these tools IMO is very necessary in order to stay up-to-date with current trends. I'm no crazy when it comes to frequent posting, but I definitely understand the value of being plugged in.

I agree with you on that.

I live in Sonoma County and up this way the new trends are things like cycling, becoming vegetarian, vitality programs, etc... living a cleaner, more healthy lifestyle and losing all the electronic gadgets you don't need. Basically people are looking at the facebooks, video games and twitters as a reason for things like child obesity and lazyness. I am not saying I agree or disagree, I have some of those things and I still live a very active healthy lifestyle. I'm just saying it is happening around here, look into the town of Sebastopol which isn't too far from here, they have been fighting the to keep free wi-fi OUT OF THE TOWN!

Internet anonymity will be very valuable in the not too distant future.

Not that I'm overly concerned about it, obviously.

Here's going to my stalker comment... So somehow I backed into your intsa pics earlier this week.  Somehow your pic of either the Audi or Lamborghini hit my news feed (someone I follow must have liked it?).  Some sick cars on your account.  I'm @bmwaite.

I never thought about tagging #golfwrx.  It's a really great idea, and it should be a new rule for anyone who wins a contest to go somewhere, if they use social media they should use the tag.

My next golf pic will have the tag.  Look out for @tympugh

I don't understand the stupidity of promoting another site when you can just have people come to Golfwrx.com instead.  If I want to talk about golf, the last place I'm going to go is Facebook or Twitter.

Equally idiotic is putting hashtags on this website.  If I'm logged onto WRX, why do you want me to click over to some other douchey site like Twitter?

All GolfWRX all the time.  Quit trying to diversify and bring people here instead of the other way around.

I was debating going out to the range today, so I checked the Weather Channel.  Thankfully, they didn't waste my bandwidth asking me to like them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter.  I waded through their ads, got the info I wanted, and went on with my day.

Until you figure out that even in this simple world you envision, someone has to pay the bills for all the wonderful weather information you enjoy using. As I remember, at the commercial beginnings of the internet, there were a number of great ideas that failed because they couldn't find a way to pay the bills. There were a huge number of people who lost a boat-load of money on these great ideas. They failed to listen to people like Warren Buffett who said (and I paraphrase) never invest in anything whose founders can't clearly explain how they intend to add positive numbers their income statements' bottom line. Thankfully some of the folks behind the internet sites I frequent (especially GolfWRX) figured out a way to finance themselves. I'll gladly wade through the ads, appeals to "like", etc. to enjoy what I have here on GolfWRX and for that matter, Weather.com.

So I'm guessing that the ads that are on here and the ClubWRX memberships just aren't enough?  Because there are more ads here than on any site I frequent outside of Yahoo.  This is also one of the slowest sites out there specifically because of the ridiculous amount of ads on here.

Disagree.  Check ProfSmitty's sig above.  His "follow WRX on Twitter" sig specifically redirects you AWAY from GolfWRX and towards Twitter.

It's one thing if your enterprise is a commercial or tangible item.  But when your business is a website and your concept of marketing is to take your members AWAY from your site to another site, you need to rethink your strategy.  Everything should funnel you deeper into the WRX forums, not away from it.  It's why Walmart doesn't ask you to follow their ads at Target.com.  The place to talk about golf should be GolfWRX, not Twitter.  Sending people to another site is just stupid.

I think you are looking at this backwards. Say I put pictures from my TMAG trip, or others put pictures that pertain to golf on their Twitter or Instagram, and tag them with #GolfWRX, you are networking and advertising for this site faster than you can any other way. The amount of followers each person has, it is free advertising for GolfWRX and naturally directs itself at others with like interests. In no way is it telling people to go to Twitter or Instagram rather than GolfWRX.

Do you understand how Twitter works? He is not saying, go to Twitter instead of our site. In no way is he saying "pick Twitter over GolfWRX."

I am on Twitter. Do you know how why I sometimes come to GolfWRX? Because I follow them and they tweet links to some of their hot stories, a lot of which I wouldn't see because I am at work or on the go. Sometimes, I will retweet that link and my followers can see GolfWRX.com. It is putting the GolfWRX name out there in different avenues. Twitter and GolfWRX are not Walmart and Target. #Stupid-IER

I never said they were the same.  #ReadingComprehension

And what you are telling me is that you prefer to have someone market stories to you rather than go through the actual site (which you can get on your mobile device...just like Twitter) and see the full breadth of content on here.  You say you are at work or on the go, yet you have time to check one site and not another?  #BSFlagBeingRaised

Do you know why I come to GolfWRX?  Because I know that this is a place to talk about golf.  Do you know why I don't use Facebook and Twitter to decide where to surf?  Because I can think for myself and know how to use a search engine.  I don't need a third party's biased viewpoint to tell me what to view.  I search the new content of the site to see what looks interesting.  If I used only a few members here for a frame of reference, all I would see are links to giveaways, links to the BST, and photos of bags at tournaments.  There is so much more to this site than that and I feel bad for you if you don't realize that.
