Just to prepare you, your topic is going to begin a firestorm from TM haters for only considering the two new offerings from TaylorMade. Oh, and this is just begging for the standard "go get fitted!" response from 3/4 of replies. Just a friendly heads up.

In direct response to your question, hit them both and buy the one that you feel like you hit the best. That's the simple answer.

Me too.  The Stage2 is a killer driver too.  I just prefer the adjustability of the R1 over the Stage2!

Depends on needs.........slower swing would benefit from a lighter driver most of the time.......I did trim down my R1 and it's perfect for me even at slower speeds plus I like the higher adjustability more!!

Stage 2 beat R1 for me, with one exception, Smash factor. My fitter is confident that Stage 2 Tour will bring the higher Smash factor and still greater results... Looking forward to March 15th.

IMO don't go with taylormade drivers. I was hitting the RBZ Stage 2 with a high end aftermarket X flex and was hitting it 290-300 in the golfsmith simulator and the R1 with a 7M3 X flex barley over 300. I was hitting the I20 with the stock stiff shaft 320-330 in the sim, my 910 'ahina x5ct X was just a tad longer than the I20. Tmade is all marketing these days.

I would get a G25, I25 in the future, I20, or a 913 if you want a very solid driver. IMO they're all better than the tmades this year.

You definitely should try both the RBZ Stage 2 and R1 on a launch monitor and compare.  I have had the R1 for a few weeks and while it is a nice club, I am going to return it and get probably get a Rocketballz.  For some reason I am not getting enough loft on the ball most of the time, even at 12 degrees, which is probably a combination of my 88-92 mph swing speed and the angle of attack.    It is important that you hit both and see what the numbers are.   Chances are the higher your swing speed the more you will like the R1 and the lower your swing speed the more you will like the RBZ Stage 2.   It appears to me that the R1 is somewhat less forgiving based on hitting both on a launch monitor.   I found that I did better on slight misses with my R9 460 than the R1 plus the R9 460 had a better launch.  On average the R9 460 worked a little better for me.  The forgiveness difference seemed pretty noticeable for me.   For me the RBZ probably has a better sound and feel, quite a bit quieter.   The R1 has a little better looks, imho but the RBZ isn't bad.   The RBZ is $100.00 less while the R1 has all kinds of adjustability.  The R1 will keep the trajectory down some for the higher swing speed guys while the RBZ will probably get the ball up better for lower swing speeds.  The most important thing is performance so check them both out well if possible.  I will be taking another look at the RBZ Stage 2.  My ego wanted the R1 but in reality the RBZ Stage 2 is probably a better club for a once a week aging golfer with a fairly slow swing speed.

I tried them both a few weeks ago, and for me, the R1 with stock shaft have perfect numbers for my swing and almost every shot was perfectly down the middle.    The RBZ-2 although I got a few more yards (gained a few mph swing--lighter and a bit longer shaft probably) , but my shots sprayed everywhere- even after trying a few different shafts.  With that said though others had the opposite experience.  And I also want to add- I had similar experiences when I compared the r11 to the burner 2, and when I compared the r11s to the original RBZ.  The weight and balance of the r series have me better control than the lighter "distance" offerings.    In other words you really will have to try for yourself.

Tried both drivers again today.. this time I had better results with the R1. Tighter dispersion and I  was longer than the stage 2. The R1 was spinning much lower as well.
Now I am completely confused now. Any way I going to do a lot more testing before ordering. Either way they both are great
drivers .

I had several testings on Trackman as well. My decision was a bit easier than yours, because Stage 2 beat out R1 each and every time for me. R1 was a close third, but Stage 2 was always number one (G25 was in the 2nd place slot).

I do have a suggestion for you cxissi, Stage 2 TOUR! It has been a perfect mix of R1 and Stage two for a couple of my boys... Give it a shot.

Will do, it may be a month or so before I see a lh tour version here .

I actually demoed the RBZ Stage 2 with a 3 wood X stiff shaft today... it was awesome.

I did not like the R1, even with the Black Tie Matrix.... I just had 0 confidence with it.

I'd suggest getting fit, or demoing both and figuring out which one works better for you.
