In no order, (well possibly subconscious order as this is the way they popped into my mind)

1: Whistling Straits (Both)
2: Riviera CC
3: Medinah (2&3)
4: Erin Hills
5: TPC Sawgrass

6: Torrey Pines (N&S)
7: TPC Deere Run
8: TPC Scottsdale
9: Black Wolf Run (River & MV)
10: Aviara

I have a few courses I would prefer to play over many of these purely for personal reasons, good memories with family, first eagle, hole in one ETC, but I listed the tops ones based solely on the course itself

Josh...we're heading up to Erin Hills in June...how about sharing a bit of your experience.  Anything you would or wouldn't do now that you've played it?  Thanks much.

It's too hard to choose five, so here's my list.  I enjoyed every one of them, regardless of how I played.

Pebble Beach
PGA West (Stadium and Palmer, I'll put them together as one)
Spyglass Hill
Troon North
Cog Hill Dubsdread
Doral Blue Monster
Torrey Pines, South and North
Redstone (home of the Shell Houston Open)
Princeville
Grayhawk, Talon and Raptor
La Cantera (San Antonio)
TPC The Woodlands
Mauna Lani
Mauna Kea
The Quarry

I know that I'm missing some great courses that I've played, but age plays with memory sometimes.

Also have to add Stone Canyon in Tucson as a top pick, I'd say the Augusta of the south west.

I played two round there two years ago and stayed in one of the cabins. One of my friends is on the board of The First Tee. A fellow board member who is a member of Augusta invited him to play, stay and bring a guest.

Tee to green it is fairly wide open and not terribly long from the members tees. All of the excitement is around the greens. My highlight was being -1 on the twelfth hole for two rounds.

1) Crystal Downs
2) Pebble
3) Pinehurst #2
4) Cypress
5) A tie between a bunch of Scottish/Irish Courses on a golf tour with friends.

Crystal Downs was incredible - few pay attention to it.  Middle of nowhere Michigan but get on that place if you ever get a chance.

Muirfield Village GC
Inverness Club
Pinehurst #2
Ohio State University Scarlet
Golden Horseshoe - Gold Course in Williamsburg VA (not sure why this one has never gotten the pub - it's great, and hard!)

Others that have been especially memorable include Tidewater in North Myrtle area, Pine Needles, Wolf Creek, Torrey Pines South, Firestone CC courses (all of them), and the Desert Willow Firecliff and Shadow Ridge courses in Palm Desert.  Princeville Kauai Prince is overrated as a golf course IMO but the views are spectacular - worth every penny just to see what you can see there.

Others I hope to play before I croak include all the Bandon courses, Whistling Straits, Bethpage Black, The Golf Club, Harbour  Town, and Kiawah Ocean Course (lots of others I'd love to play but have no prayer ever of seeing the inside of the clubhouse, much less the first tee).
