Anybody have a plating shop in Dallas or close surrounding area that will strip chrome from iron heads?  Having some trouble finding one that will do small customer orders...

Thanks!

I called 6 different places and got the same answers from everyone, they don't do small customer orders, only commercial stuff...

Others tell me they will only remove it if they are re-chroming...

I'll be sure to post them, I am taking them tomorrow afternoon and he said they should be ready in about 10 days.  I'll post raw MP 33 pics then I am going to get them done black oxide!  Gonna be pretty nice when they are done, black oxide finish with yellow paintfill, Project x 6.0 shafts, using wood dowels and prosofts.  All will be weighted to D6 due to the extra 3/4" length.  I may try to counterbalance when they are all finished, but that will be another day.

For those asking to see pics of the irons, they will have to wait another week...  I was very excited yesterday when Al's called me and said they were ready for pick up.  After an hour drive over today, I got to take a first look at them, and at least 1/4 of the chrome was still them!  Needless to say I was a little perturbed.  Apparently no one even bothered to look at them before calling me.

I will post up some pics when I get them completed, but if this is the measure of pride in their work, I won't be back...  I'll send them off to chopshopgolf...

Got the mizuno heads back this weekend!  They look good, got all the chrome off them, but they went ahead and sandblasted them as well to make sure all the chrome and paintfill was removed... Kinda worried that the black ox won't look right now because it is a rough surface, not the smooth pre-chromed surface...  But I guess we'll see!

Was very disappointed with the customer service as I told them I had an hour drive each way to pick them up and they didn't inspect the heads before calling to tell me they were finished, I got there and over 1/4 of the chrome was still on there.  Also not too sure about the sandblasting for the black ox.  Lastly, they quoted $75 for the heads and I ended up having to pay over $90, considering I had to burn 2x as much gas and time, the extra $ upset me a little...

So in conclusion, I probably won't use them again, mainly due to customer service complaints, but I guess they did get the job done...

Dam sorry to hear that bud, just to let u know there might still be chrome there. I sand blast heads all the time and it never removes all the chrome, but they always have that look like it is gone. That's probably why they sandblasted them. Make sure u degrease them good. Hopefully it is all gone. Good luck.

Most of the chrome was gone after they did the acid bath, the guy who did the dip said they sandblasted mainly to remove the paintfill that didn't come out...  Couldn't believe the acid didn't pull out the paintfill!

I would strongly recommend going over them with some 0 or 00 and then 000 steel wool to smooth them over before black ox. U are gonna want a very smooth surface

If you want matte black that surface is fine, but if you want it to be shiny you have a lot of work to do. Also when you have the black oxide done the shop may ask you if you want them oil quenched or waxed. I would ask them to skip this step or go with the wax. Mine were oil quenched and it was pretty tough to get all of the oil out of the hosels. Gl

Ran over the sandblasted iron heads with 150 grit sandpaper for 2-3 mins per head before ox'ing them.  Came out pretty well, can't wait to shaft them up with the px 6.0's!
Here's a before and after pic, gonna move the rest of the pics over to the club building thread if you want to see the finished product!
