Hitter.  I probably avg 285yd, with an occasional 300yd drive. We had one guy in our group that absolutely murdered balls. He drove a 340 yd par 4, and it was all carry, no wind, level golf hole, at sea level... We had a few tight driving holes.  I hit a good 3 wood out there about 260, he hit his 3 iron 5 yards past me.  Haha... I will say I was draining most of the putts, though. It was pretty fun to watch him hit, though..

No doubt... He was definitely a stick as well.  Most of these bombs were in/on the fairway/greens.  I was impressed.

I'm in the same boat as you. I can move it pretty good and one of the guys I play with (he posts here often) hits it way past me. The sound is the one thing that always sticks out.

Yeah, it was ridiculous.  I wouldnt have believed it, but I actually saw it first hand.  This guys ball flight reminded me of John Daly.  He also dropped a 3w on a green from 275 on a big time uphill par 5; that one was all carry as well.

I played in a scramble once with a guy who could hit it similar distances. I remember having a pitching wedge second shot into some of the par 5s thanks to his insane distance. Completely changed the way you think about/play the course.

I had a similar situation last year in an event.  I generally play my driver pretty consistent around the 270-275 mark on a normal day and was paired up with a college aged kid who was bombing it.  Watching the ball take off from his club was nothing short of impressive, anyway he was probably out there a good 325-340 on most drives.  It's hard not to get a bit mentally frazzled by somebody who throws a drive 50 yards past you but after a couple holes I told myself to slow down and play my game.  I think it started frustrating him when I started sticking iron shots and sinking putts...whatever it was his game fell apart and the lower score went to the shorter hitter.

This just goes to show, no matter how long you are, there is always someone out there who is longer than you. Fortunately for me it goes the other way as well, no matter how short I think I hit it, 220 to 230, there is always someone shorter as well

Used rentals yesterday and my drive numbers were in the toilet. Don't think I released the club but once. A poor round.

Looking forward to playing a ton of am events this year and seeing similar stuff first hand.  I'll never forget a junior tourney I played in 15 years ago, I hit the ball about 230 as an early teenager which was plenty long enough.  I hit a poor second shot on a par 5 and was waiting from about 190 for the green to clear when a ball just missed me on the fly.  This chubby kid behind me had to have carried it 300+ as a 13 year old lol.  He had wanted to wait but the market in their group told him we were well out of range lol.  His score at the end?  86.

I've seen a beast like this first hand in a scramble as well

If par 4's were under 350 he hit 3 wood .. and got two of them on the fly that day

Their 4some was 8 under after 5 and ending up tying us at -18 for the cash payout.   It was quite a day (I have two +3's and a +4 on my team)

I remember one uphill par 5 where we had 210 after a cannon launch in ..... and they were at the 150 !

I've had this happen to me too.  I was playing in a scramble tournament last summer.  There was one par four that was 320 yds long.  On a good strike I can hit it up around the green and my playing partner can get it there also.  We both hit it pin high but neither of us was on the green.  Then, one of the guys one the other team grabs one of his hybrids and hits it to about 10 feet.  Shortly after he drains the putt for eagle.  He wasn't just power.  He was a "stick" too.  I should have known when I saw him hit a 5 iron onto a par 5 green from 240 out.

Golf has to be boring hitting flop wedge into par 4 and 5's. i much prefer hitting it 240-250 and working my mid irons

I have a guy like this on my college team..lefty..absolutely murders the ball..he's hitting 9i/PW into greens I'm hitting 6i/7i into, and I always considered myself "average"... he never seems to find the right fairway though..it's usually on an adjacent hole..he does score well though, very inventive with his recovery shots to say the least.. haha

As said before though..the very unique thing is the sound coming off the clubface...it's pretty scary.

what kind of tournament was this? That's some big hitting

Most of the top mid ams in quebec aren't super long. I mean they get it out there but plenty of them are in the 240-260 total distance range. There are some kids who are super long. A 17 year old at my club flies it probably 290 ish without much trouble. It's insane, he hits it places i can't fathom and i'm not short.

Course matters a lot though. I play a 7000yd course but there's a ton of doglegs, it doesn't really benefit you to hit it longer then 250 ish. There's a lot of trouble pulling driver if you hit it 280

Till the last round in my first college tourney a bunch of years ago. Shotgun in threesomes and started on a par 3 so didn't notice anything on first hole. 2nd hole #12 was a 550 yard par 5. Downhill tee shot / uphill second shot...

Course had those small shrubs at the yardage markers. I hit first and it rolled to the 250 yard shrubs and I nailed it. Hit 2nd on next shot - 3 wood up in front of the green then grabbed my bag and took 104 steps to the last guy to hit's ball! 104! He hit wedge... Happened all day too, not 100 yards all the time but it was unreal! He could hit 2 iron as far as my driver if he caught it. Hit 3 wood most of the time between 20-40 yards past my driver. Crazy!

So... needless to say short game became focus of my practices!

I'm in the Same boat...  Not crazy long, but not short... 260-280 usually...  but my buddy makes me seem like a short knocker, lol.  Easily 50 yds by me all day long...  Out drives me with 3w and I'm hitting driver...  Pw for him 150...  It's freakin impressive.....  Stocky super strong athletic guy...   Saw him hit a 5 iron 240.... Stupid... Ss is around 125-130... 80's or better usually...
