Let's hear it, ever hit a drive and think "man I split the uprights with that one" or "daaaayyymm! That is in the geometric center of the fairway!" I'm talking the kind of tee ball that has Ian baker finch going on about it being in the mayors office.

Whaddaya got wrx?!?!

Par 4. Had a slight crown so they had a post in the fairway at 150 yards to signify the middle. Aimed at it. Hit it dead on the fly. Ball ricocheted 90 degrees left never to be found. I was not happy.

I think of "being in the Mayors office" more of a positional thing and not nessesarilly in the middle of the FW...Having said that, my playing partners call me "the sprinkler head" cause more often than not it's "gut city baby".

When I was about 17, I was playing in a club tournament and started 4, 4, 4, 2 (-2). Fifth hole, marker post in the middle of the fairway. Hit it dead centre and watched the ball heading back towards the tee. I was 60 yards short of the post. Made 5 and lost my head in the process. Shot 76. Really unhappy. Every now and again, when I remember reading Bob Rotella's stuff and pick out a specific target, I'll aim at a particular tree trunk. It's quite nice when the ball covers the trunk on the way down. Happens occasionally. Makes me think of the broken clock being right twice a day kind of thing.

closest to the line at golf outings, more than once. Granted, it's only about 180-185 yards out, but I can get it where I need it to be!
And I've hit the 150 pole in the middle of the fairway more than once, that one irks me, ball never ricochets forward, of course.

It's not how...it's how many

In a scramble, closest to the keg contest. Keg was placed 250 yards in the middle of the fairway, hit it on the fly and won the keg.

In an outing on the straightest drive hole they put a rope from the fringe in front of the green all the way back to the beginning of the fairway. My ball was resting on the rope after the drive. Funny thing was, I tied for the straightest drive that outing... With a guy in my group

Qmany, that must have been a little off centre....

Guy i played with hit the same sort of pole, came straight back, and ended up in the burn just in front of the tee. So had to play 3 off the tee without a tee!

Par 4, water on the left (which I usually wash my balls in), hit a beyootiful shot, landed on TOP of the 150 post, which must only be 4 inches across.  Can still see the ball mark on the post to this day.  Of course since the top is rounded it bounced a gazillion miles in the air and left....into my favorite ball washer lake....

There's a long dogleg left par 4 12th at my course that's pretty easy if you put it in the fairway.  It plays best if you can get to the right corner of the dogleg. There's a big Oak tree right at the corner at exactly 299 yards which is the perfect aiming point. So i can hit driver on an average day and roll 10 yards short of the tree in a perfect spot. So I aim at the dead center of said tree, take a smooth swing and of course catch the ball perfectly and hit the tree exactly where I was aiming. Never did it before, never did it again.

I hit the flag on a short par 4 (280ish) back when I was young/flexible and could hit long and straight without touching the range....
Iwas thinking I probably 3 putted for a par but as I remember it was my first eagle ever..somewhere around the age of 15.

My previous home course in Ireland (and many other do) had a stone block embedded into the fairway as the 200/150/100 yard marker, in all the years playing I only remember hitting one of them on the fly once, but the solid bounce gave it a good 70 yards more distance :)

I was playing in a match play tournament qualifying round a few years ago and stepped up on the tee to find a group on the green of this short par four.  I asked if it was ok to hit - I really thought I could drive the green - and everyone assured me it was fine.  I hit the straighest ball ever and it landed on the fringe and rolled up about 5 feet from the hole....while these guys were putting.

Unfortunately this quirky little golf course - THAT I HAD NEVER PLAYED - had a hidden green over a ridge and about 40 yards left of where I'd been aiming and I'd hit to the wrong green.  Perfectly straight drive though.....

These 2 are great. :cheesy:

If you ever saw me tee off, you'd think I aim at the OB markers. Needless to say,  I don't have any "straight drive" stories!

Ha ha! And if he was aiming at it he could hit balls at your bag all day and not hit it!

Golf is funny like that.

Three buddies and me were playing in a scramble a few years back and on #10 which is a short dogleg right par 5, 450 yds, I hit a nice fade that ends up 5 yds. in front of the 150 pole, dead in the middle of the fairway. The drive was over my head(better than usual) but the second shot is where the story gets good. We had 145 to go into an up hill green. The 1st two guys hit and my best friend, who was hitting 3rd, takes his 8 iron hits a beauty, hits the pin and stops 2 feet from the hole. We're giving each other high fives and I say there's no reason for me to hit but I'll see if I can get close. I hit 8 iron, hit the pin and end up less than 2 feet from the hole. We could play for another 100 years and never do that again.
i'm sure there is a bunch of us here that could write a book filled with golf stories, that may not seem that interesting to other folks, but there is nothing like sharing times like these with good friends.

The hole I was on was a slight dogleg right protected by a tall tree at the bend and a fairway bunker straight ahead. My natural shot shape is a fade so I'm thinking ill hit my normal drive to wrap around the tree.  So of course I hit a 250 yard drive dead straight into the bunker...

245 yard severely uphill hole at Blackhorse Golf Club up in Northern California. Played as a par 4. 10 mph wind in our face. 50 degrees. Finals of the 2011 California Pro-Scratch League (where we ended up winning the state championship!).

I hit driver that landed a good 20 or 30 yards short of the green, bounced up the neck of the green and stopped 5 feet away from the pin. That was my straightest drive ever for sure.

One of my teammates, Matt Christensen, flew the ball over the back of the green with a 2-hybrid. Dude can outdrive me from his knees....

Home course has turtles that will walk the fairway at times, buddy hit a drive pipped down the middle of the fairway that we see bounce 50 feet into the air, and then splash into the water. Get up to where it would of landed and there's another turtle. Smashed right off this guys back.

I left one resting on the chalk line of a straightest drive hole in a scramble once.

Honestly tho, the volunteer group had started drinking early that day and the line itself wasn't all that straight.

Par 5. It actually scared me. Using a G10 driver, I piped a 300 yard drive up the gut between 3 bunkers. It was picture perfect. If smartphones were invented I would have had someone take a picture.

I hit drive so straight once, it had to allow for the curvature of the earth. In the downswing, everything went super slo-mo like in the Matrix and the ball just exploded in a straight line. I thought to myself: "that ball isn't coming down".  Fortunately, a passing seagull stopped it going into geo-stationary orbit. Both the seagul and ball returned back to earth, but by the time they did, TaylorMade had already released two new drivers. No lie.
