New set is just ok but they need better hosts.  Ahmad is terrible.

Not "Dirt" on Kelly.  Please don't put words in my mouth, please see the context of my earlier remarks and wthe post I was replying to.

As for Gary, I am from Charlotte, Williams did the local morning sports radio show (WFNZ) prior to sirus which was prior to GC.  I assure you he had a DUI not too long before he left.  He was well connected in town to the good old boys elite (Quail Hallow Club / Charlotte Country Club) and it was a moderate story for about 30 seconds...then it dissapeared and "Bif" got no public discipline what-so-ever.  I do remember the mugshot (he was quite glassy eyed), but alas looks like he bought the "scrub the interenet" deluxe package.

how he compared the tiger-phil rivalry to the celtics-lakers, the giants and, and, some other team. had he stopped at the celtics-lakers, we would've gotten the point. now all i'm thinking about is, which giants? what other team?

I noticed the same thing this morning.  Eagles/Cowboys were the answers, but poor Ahmad completely blanked.

[]Are you certain you know the marriage history of every other member of the Golf Channel team as well?  What makes them "liberal"?  Cause the fired Kessler?  Cause their lead personality is perhaps not heterosexual?  Gary (DUI) Williams is the leader in the clubhouse for name dropping in my opinion.  Is GC liberal for hiring him even with his driving under the influence arrest?

What? Do tell.

They also made the one guy leave cause he is engaged to Holly. I do not remember his name, just he looked like the hulk. Well, they were dating soon after she joined, and now he is gone. Seems the producers like to get rid of anything that could cause an issue.

Ahmad seems like the type that relishes in his own "fame" and has everything he does making it a point to show he "is someone". Ah, I could be wrong...

New Morning Drive is not good.  Can not stand Ahmad Rashad.  Set does not appeal to me in the least.  Weak effort.

NBC partnership is not good in this respect.

Cowboys or Dodgers.

Saw the new format for the first time today.  Gotta say, Holly Saunders is about the only bright spot, and only partly because of her looks.  Seriously, she is solid, articulate, knows golf, and of course is very attractive.

I said it in another thread, they need somebody like a Dan Patrick or a Mike Greenberg to lead the show.  If you had someone like that you could then keep Gary Williams and just roll with that, and Holly.  The rest of these guys aren't at all interesting.  I still like the concept of the show, and feel there is a place for it, but they need somebody more interesting who can lead the show... My two cents.

Yeah, and the Jets need somebody like Tom Brady or Payton Manning.   It's hard to find those guys.  Dan Patrick and Mike Greenburg didn't submit their resumes.    Golf Channel picked Gary Williams because he had hosted a nationally-syndicated morning sports talk show on Sirius/XM and he had also been a teaching pro.  How many other guys have that background?

Ha! I think the Jets first need to get rid of that clown coach, but I suppose that's a whole different discussion.

But I agree with you, those guys aren't a dime a dozen.  Hey, I don't have the answer, so will give it some more thought.  I just don't think this group is gonna sustain the ratings over time.  I could be wrong.

On second thought, Greenberg's been doing his thing for a while now, maybe he would if you threw enough money at him?  He is an avid golfer, has a solid reputation, and is clearly tied-in to the sports/golf world.  He'd would prolly love to try something new, just would need to pry him away from his current gig, which is pretty sweet.  I know, likely to never happen, but money talks...

Not sure who else, but I will give it some thought.

FWIW, I keep defending the show but I agree it's not that good.   They need to figure something out-- I have my own opinions.   I don't think Damon Hack adds much when you have Gary Williams there already.    I thought the breakout group of Ahmad Rashad, Kelly T., and John Cook was pretty good-- because John Cook knows golf at the highest level and Kelly and Ahmad also know golf but have YEARS of TV experience.    But then it got messy again when the bigger group got back together instead of just those three.

Part of it is that you need to settle in for a talk show to work.  Mike & Mike was awful at first.   Almost all of the talk shows are bad on day 1.   People need to get used to it, hosts need to get to know each other better, etc.   Morning Drive has been going for a while now but they can't find a group that "works" yet.

Part of the problem is that Gary Williams doesn't have a lot of TV experience-- he want from radio to TV to start Morning Drive.   Kelly T, for instance, has at least 5x as much TV experience.   Probably 10x.   She hosted Golf Channel Academy, hosted Playing With the Pros, all that stuff for years before they put her in the booth at tournaments.   Ahmad Rashad doesn't look as old as he is, but he's been in the TV business for 30 years since he retired from the NFL.

I'm not sure how they fix it.   They were hoping Eric Kuselias (sp?) would be the experienced TV guy for the show, but they had to get rid of him.

All that said... I'm happy that there's golf talk on TV anyway.   It sure beats watching infomercials or repeats of Golf Central over and over and over.

And I pretty much hate all of the gimmick stuff where they are playing a "game" on TV.   Quit playing one-word-answer or whatever and just talk like you're buddies.

Like many here, I'm not convinced GC really needed to change anything at MD . Remember, golfers , as a group, are not really into embracing change.  I'm not sure the newer bigger set is an improvement but I'm also not sure it deserves all the negative comment it is getting here. Let's give it some time.

They ruined Golf Channel when they got rid of Academy Live with Kessler.  Actually, anything Kessler was involved with was gold.  Except for the Perfect Club, but I digest..
If Arnold's done with Golf Channel, they should bring Kessler back. He is the best they've had.

NBC will turn the Golf Channel into another one of their liberal platforms.

Also can't stand Ahmad Rashad (aka Bobbie Moore) - too many divorces/father-less children for me for him to be a "golf" spokesman to let us know who he rubs shoulders with.

Why can't they get this right?  They are gearing this show to the casual golfer & twitter crowd.

Otherwise, I like it.   :drinks:

The problem is they know they already have the hard core golfer, so why do they need to concern themselves with keeping us tuned it.  We aren't going anywhere!
I agree 100%, I have subsribed to the golf channel since near its beginning,I now just watch the golf accademies and the golf tournaments WITHOUT tiger woods or m.wie in them.I was going to cancel last year but did not want to give up tournament coverage from nationwide and champions tour. This is very similar to the NFL channel they cater to casual fans they have many anchors who have no football background, both channels are to politically correct for me now.  I do like Brandel Chamblee and dispise tim rosenfort!

Hmmmmm.  Different strokes for different folks, I guess.  I think Tim Rosafort is one of the best voices on Golf Channel.  I generally stop what I'm doing to pay attention when he is on because I think he's good.

GC has a lot of airtime to fill.  So what do they fill it with?  Tourney coverage, Infomercials, teaching shows and talk shows.  Everything is not going to hit 100%.  MD is a work in process.  I don't really get the seven days a week thing.  Weekends were good with the Euro coverage.  Give them time.  NBC Sports has a lot of personalities they can roll through the set so if these don't work, expect to see new ones come in.  I understand what they are trying to put together.  Get a person with TV experience; one with golf background and another that has playing experience.  I say come back to this thread in a couple of months as see where MD is.

I'd rather watch MD than another Hammer commerical any day!

Ok, I decided to turn on MD and watch.  Seemed ok until Charlie Rymer started talking about the "quirky season and limited practice facilities in Hawaii".  Really!  I've been to Hawaii numerous times and Kapalua specifically and there practice facility was nice.  I just don't know where there going with this with Ahmad Rashad & Charlie Rymer?  I don't like the new set up and wish they brought back the old set.  I thought it was good the way it was with special guest commentators (Anika comes to mind). I can't watch MD and that is what I choose, going back to Mike & Mike.

My problem, well I have many is for one I have no idea what the format is. Why do we have like 30 people. When they made the announcement it was:

Gary, Hack, Rymer and Holly on Thurs-Monday
Kelly, Rashad and Cook with Lauren on Tues and Weds.
Ginella would be mixed in and Annika and others would provide guest spots.

Instead, Lauren has yet to be on and they have them all on all the time. They try to put all the stupid segements in like wolf and game ball and something else. Just have 2 AT MOST 3 people that know and can talk golf intelligently and have them interview players. Way to much going on.

As for Ahmad, it isn't that he just doesn't know anything about golf, but he is cocky and rude and arrogant. Not to mention he has like a leading role on the show.

It's clear that CG did NO market research when looking at revamping the show.
