So... Why are these announcements being made? Phelps and now holly, do these companies really think these signings are going to do anything for them? Phelps maybe, but holly she's just some girl on the golf channel. What gives.

It's all about product placement. Holly is on MD every day, she has a weekly golf instruction show that people watch in which she will be sporting Puma gear and using Cobra clubs, she will soon debut her new Play with the pro series again in which she will wear Puma clothes and use Cobra clubs. Not to mention how many pro-ams she will play this year. I know people on here get so angry when celebs get hooked up like this, JT with Callaway, Phelps with Ping and now Holly. The thing is it probably doesn't cost them much to do, in the case of Holly they are getting tons of air time and public placement. She seems like a generally nice person, from everything I see she appears great with fans and she fits their demographic......seems like a win-win for both.

Not to mention Puma is 1st and foremost a clothing company. A young, good looking girl, who is somewhat famous and on Tv everyday, sometimes multiple times a day and who will have her own signature line, will help them sell A LOT of clothes. Holly even said in her interview with Greg, that they are working on a lot of nice golf dresses and skirts that women will be proud to play in......this will translate into sales. It's not always about the clubs or on course performance......

I think it depends. The morning drive folks wear Peter Millar and that product placement is everywhere. Breed is a Titleist guy, so I assume he is Foot JOy clothes so not sure. Rymer is a TM staffer so I assume he wears Addidas.....not sure about the others.

I don't think her product line will be pointed at you anyway.  But on the other hand, maybe they'll finally replace her old MX-200's!  See!  There's something positive about it already!  :)

At least she can play.  Matter of fact she could probably beat most of the people flaming Puma/Cobra for the signing.

How many women do you think watch morning drive or lessons on the air? I don't care that she got hooked up, good for her, but I don't see where they are really going to increase their market share by doing this.

You are correct, the # of women who watch MD and School of Golf are probably minute. But women buy clothes and women play golf. Puma is becoming more popular and is being carried in a lot of stores and pro-shops. The clothes she helps design, wear and market will be sold in stores and pro shops where women go. So while the chances of a woman seeing something Holly is wearing and running out to buy it is small, the clothes she helps to design will be sold in stores. So it's more an indirect. Also men, a lot of men watch golf and enjoy watching Holly. I can see guys buying stuff for their wives/GF's. So I would say Holly's influence will be more indirect than direct. But still for what Puma/Cobra is paying their would still be a lot of value. Also IMO it's no different than TM flooding the market with staffers. The more visable the brand the better.
