I was killing time in the mall yesterday waiting for my wife. I thought about needing some shorts. I noticed a lot of stores had shorter length shorts on display. Is this going to be a trend?

If by shorter you mean they aren't baggy, made with enough fabric to build a small tent and hanging an inch or two below the knee then I hope so.

Most of the shorts they've been selling the last few years would have gotten you nicknamed "Droopy Drawers" when I was in grade school.

So-called "shorts" that cover your knees are not shorts. They are Capri pants. And ill-fitting ones, generally speaking.

I agree. I have to add 12 bucks to the cost of every pair of shorts I buy to have them hemmed.

That's a bit skimpy. There's about what, a foot or so of dustance between those shorts and the top of his knees? Plenty of middle ground for someone who wants a tasteful look in a pair of well proprtioned short pants.

PS. I was thinking more like '66 than '79.

Jcrew generally offers a nice selection of shorts with 5, 7, 9 and 11 inch inseams.
