If you're an honest 10, I'd say hit the MP 53s, 59s and perhaps the 64s and go from there...

This. Find someplace that has the optimizer fitting cart.

Woulds try the JPX-825 or 800 Pro / non-pro . They are nice as well and probably *easier* to play with .

Don't overlook the H-4 as well.  The long irons will be easier to hit than the 53/59/64s.

Another vote for 825 pros and 800 pros, still great feel and slightly more forgiving.

I play off 12 and recently got into mp63. Great iron and not hard to hit at all. I'm not a flusher but these have me hitting my irons much better than my previous set. (Adams A4)

I play these 5-P with flihi in the 3&4 spot.

I'm about a 10 myself and own both the JPX-825 and JPX-825 Pro. Honestly, I think the 825 (cast, non-forged) is a better overall club for me.

That's interesting.  What type of swing do you have?  What do you like better about the non-Pro models?

I think I have a pretty average swing with a quicker tempo and was "shaft optimizer
d" for the NS Pro 950 in stiff. I guess I would be considered a sweeper as my divot is shallow if there is one. My miss is a hook and recently thin. Hardly ever slice or hit my irons fat. My driver swing speed averages around 100 mph. I hit my 8 iron about 150-155 yards. They're both great heads and each have their advantages, the Pros being more workable than the non-Pros. My last round with the non-pro and an out of wack swing I was able to grind out a 78.  I think that number would have been in the low to mid 80's with the Pros. There were definitely a couple of "gear effect" shots that saved my a**. If you like to work your shots the Pros are your ticket but if you like to hit it straight or keep it one way only then the non-pros might be a better fit.

If I was playing for score the non-pros, if I was playing for fun or to experiment then the Pros would come out. They're both great sets though and improvements over the 800s. I quickly sold the JPX-800 Pros.

I think I'm around your handicap... often shooting a 79-83... I love iron play though. Moreso than driving. I'm in the same boat as you looking for irons that 1) I can live with the look of and 2) I can hit.

I bounce back and forth between 'forgiveness' and 'feel' in irons. Sometimes I think forgiveness is an oversold ideal, but that's a different topic!

So since I want to get back to a smaller, forged head (what I learned on), I have looked at:

Callaway 2013 X Forged: Surprisingly forgiving. Easiest 'player's' club I've seen get in the air. Fantastic feel and feedback. The PXI shafts felt good in this head to me... for me personally.

Mizuno 825 Pro: I didn't find these hard to hit at all really. They do help you enough on slight misshits. Feed back is still strong. A pleasing, 'thwack' when you've found the sweet spot.

Mizuno MP H4: Weird club. Can't figure this one out. None of the irons -appear- as compact as the 825 pro (which is weird because they are "JPX" 825 pros). However, they are still categorized as an "MP" club. The shorter irons are quite nice. The mid irons are a bit larger to me...they seem to get 'thick' quite quickly. By the time you hit the 5-4-3- iron, you are looking at quite a beefy topline, and sole.  The flight was not too high though, not really a difficult club to hit, but my first time out I didn't find the feedback as sharp as 825 pro's.

PING Anser Forged: Not my club. Wasn't impressed by it. I perhaps had unreal expectations of a 1500.00 club. I'm willing to admit it might have been the shaft but I felt the other clubs I tried out performed this one for my swing.

The H4 might be the perfect 'tweener'. The long irons should give -any- handicap imho a good feeling about swinging a 4 iron. Can you live with beefy mid irons? If so, the gravy is in the short irons. They get quite similar to an MP club in the short irons, the scoring clubs. I think the H4 speaks to a very wide handicap range, especially if you don't care for offset (I hate offset, makes me want to hood the club for some reason, I get hooky. Especially if you hit the inside of the ball.)

825 pro is darn good, but in my opinion if you can hit the X Forged, that is an extremely pleasing club if you can control it.

They never seemed to get as much press as the ones people mentioned here, but I played the MX-300's for years. Just switched over to blades this winter, but I totally recommend them. I bought them when I was about an 11, and now I'm down to a 6 or so.

If i'm going to suggest a Mizuno iron without knowing your game, then it has to be the 53. It fits a very broad range of players, looks great at address and are plenty forgiving. I'm not sure you can really go wrong with the 53's. They are not a current model but if you get your retailer to contact Mizuno they should still be able to get you a set of these. Just find the right shaft for them.

Wouldn't this be the jpx 825 pro now? Similar handicap, similar club. (I had the MX-25's). I think 825 pro is a club that likes to go fairly straight but will give you some issues if you're not finding the center of the face often enough. But I agree, that sort of club won't kill you while helping you improve your ball striking.

Yeah, they look a lot like the MX-300's. I don't follow equipment news or lines, too much, but if that's the same set, I liked mine.

I have a quick tempo and pick the ball (not much of a divot) and I did a Mizuno fitting.  My miss is thin by the way.  Went through them all and was probably going to go with MP-53 or JPX-825 Pro...towards the end the fitter said "hit this" and I was in love.  Turned out to be the MP-H4.  I wouldn't have hit it if he didn't blindly hand it to me.  The MP-H4 is unlike no other if your miss with irons is thin.  If you do not utilize a fitter using the Mizuno fitting process, you're doing yourself a HUGE disservice.  We can recommend what our "ideas" are, but if you go through the fitting you will KNOW for sure.

+1 on the 825 pros, seem to be a good fit for our handicap range (I'm about an 8) now why can't I get a jpx-825 pro 3 iron!

Damn you Jabroni. I need to hit the MP-H4s now. As if 2 current Mizuno sets weren't enough already! I have a fever and the only cure is more Mizunos.

Id also give the JPX 825 Pros a hit.  Theyre very soft and have great feel but are a bit more forgiving than MP irons.  The 64s are sweet too.  IMO, the 64s are the best irons on the market if youve got the swing to hit them.

JPX 800 or 825 Pro. I have never been happier with a set of irons (800 Pro). I'm an 11, and was was fitted into them last year before the season started. I' dropped 2 strokes last season.

I know what you mean.  I looked at them on the rack and had no intention of hitting them.  When the fitter told me to "hit this", I didn't see any of the thicker sole at address so it didn't even cross my mind they were H4's.  I came on here and posted a review and a few guys begrudgingly hit them and ended up buying them.  Like I said, I would not have hit them if I knew that he was putting the H4 into my hands.  I found the opposite to be true of one of the posts above.  I found the H4 to feel like butter with a ton of feedback.  I could tell immediately when I caught it a tad thin, but they continued to measure out on the Vector Pro as if I hit it perfectly.  With the 825 Pro's, when I pured it, it wasn't bad, but not as good feeling H4, 53, 58 and 64, but then I missed the 825 Pro's, I kind of felt the miss, but not a ton, and the numbers really suffered.  So I found H4 had great feel on nutted ball, great feedback on misses, but shots didn't suffer and on the 825 Pro okay feel on pure shots, kind of felt bad shots, but bad shots suffered.  If your miss is thin, these were forged in heaven for you.  Do a search on here for feedback on the H4.  You'll find guys that swear by them.  Here are a couple.

I play the MP-H4s as well and love them. I got fitted by a Mizuno dealer, and I felt like the MP-H4s gave me much better feedback than the JPX line.

I got the forgiveness I needed in the long irons and the look/feel I wanted in the short irons. I was looking into getting a mixed set of Callaways but the forged Mizunos felt like butter. I just couldn't pass on them.

I switched to a combo set of MP 53/63 when i was around a 9 handicap... Was a wonderful experience! Two and a half years later I am down to a 3.6 and game the MP 64's. Hands down best feeling irons i have ever hit!

My suggestion to you would be to go somewhere that has the Mizuno shaft optimizer and hit a bunch of different heads with the recommended shaft.

I went from the 53's to the 64's and prefer the 64s by a considerable amount.  53's are very nice clubs but simply don't feel as good as the 64's.  Not even close.

Did you make a big shaft change in the process as well? Difference in feel between 53 and 64 is minimal, and both feel good.
