Came across an item im intersted in and noticed it ended right when the superbowl starts,  this has to be one of the biggest Ebay no no's to end an auction during something like this.  Maybe i can steal it at a good price.

Lots of people start auctions on Sunday or Monday nights.  He/she must have forgotten about the SB.

I got a Golden Tee arcade game for about $100 that ended at 6:00 on Thanksgiving.  That was about 1/4 the price comparable ones were going for.

Doesn't everyone just use snipe programs to buy items? Do people still really watch it and bid a the end?

I'm not a prolific ebayer by any stretch, but in the 10 odd years I've had my account, I've never manually bid on items... seems pretty time consuming.

I used to do the bid at the end of an auction thing years and years ago.  Then moved on to the bid snipe programs, then later eBay started using the By-it-Now option and is pretty much all I use now.  Haven't placed an actual bid in years.  That's crazy to have it end when the SB starts though...prolly didn't dawn on them when they listed it.

if only there were some kind of intelligent cellular phones that people could download applications on, to watch and bid on items while sitting on their couch during the game??

in all seriousness, timing might have been an issue a few years ago, but with ebay apps, and sniping apps it doesn't really matter what time an item ends, people will bid on it.

I agree that w/ smart phones, timing is much less of an issue. Also, if the item is a popular item, there will be bids on them SB or no SB.

Yeah but you're still cutting out that market who still just browses and tries to get stuff at the last minute.

There are lots (and lots) of Ebayers who still just browse when they have free time and only bid when the auction end is near. (Very few during the Super Bowl, Holidays, 3 am, etc.) That's why auction ending time is still very important. I usually shoot for a Thursday at 9:30 pm Eastern Time start, it costs 10 cents to schedule a start time (which in effect determines your end time) Best dime you'll spend as a seller.

When you sort the items by time ending soonest, who really scrolls more than a page or two?

Also, I almost always use a sniper because I never want to expose my hand (max bid) until the last few seconds. Pretty much eliminates bidding wars and like you early max bidders, I don't overspend. Besides, snipers are free and super easy to use.

^ auctionsniper.com is what I've used. Only time I haven't won something is when the sale price exceeded my max.

+3  I don't bid much or buy a lot on eBay (usually it's  a BuyNow on something I can't get locally) . I never heard of a snipe program till this thread and had to look it up.

Smacks  too much to me like the sophisticated computerized stock market programs that mess up the little guy just trying to compete with that to make a bid or sale of  a small lot of shares.

But build  a better mousetrap I guess and folks will need to get on the bandwagon if they are serious e4Bay players.

Is there an increased chance of adware, spyware and/or indentity theft using these programs?  Like I said, I'm clueless on these things.
