About to finally pull the trigger on a new driver, just can't decide between the Titleist of Taylormade heads, or which shaft. is the Taylormade R11/R1 more forgiving than the titleist 913D3? Also trying to pick a shaft. It's hard to do when none of the stores offer premium shafts to demo. My swing speed is about 115 with driver and i play an X flex now but have a hard time hitting a draw with it, probably because it's too stiff. I'm thinking i may be good in a solid aftremarket stiff flex, but i'm worried i'll buy it and it will be too whippy.

I own the 913d3 @9.5 with a 83x white board. Played the r11s tp with phenom rip 65x last season, liked the general performance but the durability of the face was suspect caved in 2 on my third driver TM did replace both, so unless tm improved the durability of face for the r1  save your $, cant go wrong with the 913. Very long consistanty longer than my anser. I also have the 910d3 same shaft as 913 imo 913 is a better head than 910.

i have both - here is how i see them stacking up...

this is subjective to the user, but the 913d3 has a more appealing shape, sound, footprint and a QUALITY stock shaft.  the r1 has more adjust-ability, better dispersion, higher launch, lower spin, longer, but it required additional money out of pocket for the shaft that fit my needs.  IMO the feel of the drivers is about the same - not good.  the 913d3 has a slight edge, but its not a great feeling driver in general... (as a reference point the d2 sounds and feels much better) the sound again is neck and neck - perhaps the r1 gets the edge, because you expect a TITLEIST driver to sound good.  i get great results with the r1 and the 913d3 was close...  is there better out there - yes.

in summary both drivers are good - but in my opinion lack something to make either one stand out.  in this case it come down to what stock shaft fit your needs the best.  i do feel there may be a driver on the market that may be a complete package...

I also have the 910d3 same shaft as 913 imo 913 is a better head than 910. 913 is also( for me) about 10yds on ave longer than r11s So unless tm vastley improved r1  For me 913 should be better than the r1. Not sure what my ss is now but when I was in 20s and 30s it was clocked @ 134 mph ave of 124mph. Would like to try r1 though just to see if the face can hold up for a few range sessions.

Why those two? There are a lot of quality drivers out there and it seems the brands that are about to release there clubs are going to be good with quality stock shafts (Adams, Cleveland).

Performance should be similar. If it was my money it would be Titleist and I wouldn't think twice about it. Not only are you getting the same head played on tour, but you have a huge assortment of no upcharge shafts...more than any other OEM.

thanks for the input guys. Looks like everyone is leaning toward Titleist. I used to own several of their older drivers (983, 905, etc) and myself, friends and family found them harder to hit, so many went to TM (R5, R7).  Is this still true with the Titleist heads? is the sweet spot smaller or something? thanks

Titleist for me.  I always hit their drivers the straightest and the 913D3 gave me the best ballspeed/launch/spin.  I thought I would end up with the D2 but could not control the spin with the stock shafts.  D3 is very forgiving for a 445cc head, has the footprint of a 460cc club too.

FYI - discountdansgolf has an amazing price on these with no shipping & no sales tax!

Personally I would give the 913D2 a look......I came from a 910D3 and when I was fitted ended up switching to the D2.  I also like the sound and feel of the D2 better and they tweaked the head shape and it now looks better at address.  Plus if you're looking for a little extra forgiveness the D2 would be the way to go......overall the 913D2 is much improved over the 910D2 and I would definitly give it a look as well.
