My friend who was with me has worked with Paul at Golf Mart in mission valley and was really happy, but he wasn't in that day, or at least when we were there. However, he's a scratch golfer and bought a new set of ansers the last time he worked with Paul, so that might have had something to do with it, haha!

Oh well, I'm not the first to have a bad experience and won't be the last! Happy equipment hunting this spring!

Imagine if you owned a launch moniter and you allowed 100 people every day to start pushing buttons. Where do you draw the line between serious golfers and buyers, which you well may be, and irresponsible browsers who will skrew up the system and then be on thier way. I have seen many stores that do not allow customers to operate equipment and i really don't blame them.

Although I understand and actually agree with what you're saying, an employee should never scold a customer.  I think that some of these guys forget that their job is to delight the customer and sell product, not be a tough guy and the simulator police.  I only have a couple of Dick's and one GG near me.  It completely depends on the individual.  There's a few great guys at both places, but a couple of d-bags there as well.  A friend of mine walked into GG and just wanted his driver regripped.  The guy asked him so many questions and did everything he could to drive my buddy out of the store.  So my buddy said he no longer wanted the grip and will never come back.  The manager overheard, stopped him and asked him what happened.  When he explained, he just asked him if he liked the grip he had on it, he said yes, and he put a new one on for free and have him a $25 gift card.

Usually, as long as there is a good manager, you can steer clear of the jerks and get taken care of, but when the store manager is a jerk, you should probably just steer clear of the place because it will trickle down to the employees.

Golfsmith is the ultimate crap shoot when it comes to golf.  Have dealt with them 4 times and have had nothing but good things to say.  I send my dad over there and he has a nightmare of an experience.  Take the good with the bad with them i guess.

It's retail. I don't go into a Macy's and expect every employee to be a seamstress and know everything about the jeans I want.

In my opinion, going into a store like that, you should research prior.

Exactly this.  If you're expecting golf equipment experts for $10/hour, you're just dreaming.

Like anything and anywhere in life, it depends on the people who are at the store. My golfsmith and golf galaxy that I go to have pretty decent and knowledgeable individuals. There been times that a couple or few haven't been great, but it is what it is. I "try" my best not to let it ruin my day when I get treated poorly, but I can understand the OP complaint (no one likes to made "look bad").

I wouldn't condemn the entire chain based on a few bad experiences. You just ran into the wrong employees.  I've had positive experiences at Golfsmith.  Last month I had time to kill while the wife was shopping.  I probably hit about 30 different drivers and no one came to hassle me.  Store was dead at the time but emplyees just left me alone.  I wasn't looking for any advice and thankfully didn't get any.
I have purchased clubs there on other occasions and received pretty good service.  I was about to purchase a used 3 wood and their club repair person did some measurements to ensure it was not damaged.
It all depends on who is working that day.
I couldn't agree more. There are always going to be discourteous employees everywhere you go. Not cool to paint all GSmith employees with one broad brush. While there are some tools that work at my local GSmith, there are a couple guys (and girls) who are as cool and as knowledgeable about equipment as almost any of us Ho's.

I loved the salesman at Edwin Watts that told me he couldn't recommend a new set of irons till I fixed my swing.
