There's always got to be a hater who throws in their $.02 cents. Lame.
The guy is INSANE. Great exposure for him and Callaway XHot. Natural team. Nice!

yes on both accounts. 1, he never ties his golf shoes. not in competition either. 2. he's a callaway staffer now and plays the x hot driver.

your point is valid, but slightly exaggerated because I don't feel there are "many other" guys ahead of him. And you know how fickle long drive events can be... wind changes and you lose and take 4th. It happens. He's still top 10 imo and at his age has plenty of years to try to win the title a 3rd time.
anyway, the reason why people are "gaga" over him is because he's 5'11" and 165lbs. he's a freak. the other guys are practically power lifters and built like brick houses. When you see a guy that's built kind of average and no more muscular looking than say Camillo Villegas, hanging with the gorillas on the long drive circuit, people gravitate to that. I'm sure you can understand that.
either way, I haven't seen too many guys hit a 29" driver 400 yards carry, so put me in the category of gaga. I mean, he's no Jack Hamm or anything, but watching his drives wednesday was fun.

Lucky for them, the wind wasn't helping him at all. That range is huge but he was pretty close to shooting cherry peppers up the arses. I don't know how long you stuck around but there were some shots that I thought he was going to drive into vendors. His non competitive driver was still going like 380 carry into the wind, but he did pull out the big boy and all carry was landing it around 400 on the hillside of the deep left part of the range. When you figure the average pga tour player carries the ball 270, to see a guy of the same size as most tour players able to carry the ball 130 yards further is just unreal.
Did you get a chance to hit some balls with his driver?

yeah, the video really doesn't capture how ridiculous it is. 140+mph swing, his ball flight looks nothing like anything I've seen, tiger, bubba or otherwise. He can fly the ball 130 yards+ further than the average pga tour player. Wrap your mind around that one. You watch Tiger on TV ripping a drive that flys a bunker followed by, he crushed that one... yeah, this guy would have air mailed Tigers drive by almost a football field. Are there other guys that can do that, yeah, but NOT a guy that is 5'11" 165lbs.

Any of those other LD guys under 170lbs and under 6' tall? Yes, there are long drivers out there that can do what he does. They have 140+ mph swings like him. But the reason people admire his ability is simply because it's more remarkable than the older powerlifter / football player type that's 6'4" 250lbs doing it like many on those circuits.... not a young kid that's smaller than even many pga tour pros.

I saw him at a Golfweek Expo a few years ago. Never saw anything like it. He'd make contact and the ball would disappear - I couldn't see it start out, just had to hope to pick it up later as it fell out of the sky.
