Cleaning the basement out and got to my dads old club rack. Looked for info on some Hagen irons, found an old post in this forum (a few posts below), now I'm getting into these old clubs.

Long story short, came across a Cann & Taylor Mashie Niblic. Wood shaft, beat up and rusty, grip falling off but with close inspection, read the back lettering.

"MADE IN SCOTLAND" + "L" on back towards the toe
"CANN & TAYLOR"
"WARRENTED(?) HAND FORGED"
{JOHN TAYLOR AUTOGRAPH}
"AUTOGRAPHREG."(?)
"NO. 30386870"
"MASHIE NIBLIC"

I found some info on Cann & Taylor (Taylor won 5 Open Championships!) and their club making, but nothing on this particular club.

Looking for info:
Age?
Where it was made in Scotland?
What the "L" on the back stands for?
Common? Uncommon?

Well, I'd say the L is for Ladies or to signify a lighter (weight0 version of the club.  Your photos aren't very clear, is there a cleek mark?

I have a few. In the UK there are plenty.
The UK versions state 'Hand Forged' but not where and who made them for Cann & Taylor. There was a manufacturing or maybe just assembly plant in the US (Pittsburgh and Asbury Park NJ ) so maybe the imported heads had to have country of origin stamped. Maybe it was a marketing scam like the MacGregor Rose mark hijacked from Condie. Cann and Taylor were an English set-up and had nothing to do with Scotland. If they sourced heads from Scotland they made sure they didn't say so in the UK and Commonwealth market, which was substantial.
