Why the heck not?  It would just be another stupid anchoring rule.

They already have. They banned real golf shoes a long time ago. I still have mine. I dont see how anyone can call those little rubber knobs spikes. The original spikes were the best but people couldnt pick up their feet when they walked on the greens. When you drag your foot with those on it left little scratch marks in the greens.

Went to watch the pros at Sawgrass and some were still wearing metal spikes. Nothing like that sound when someone wearing them walks across a cartpath. But clearly they offered better traction. And at least some of the pros still appreciate that turf grabbing capability.

So I take it you're talking about the Unversal "They" here? The (proposed) putter rule is the work of the USGA. Banning metal spikes is down to some golf course owners. Next you'll be complaining that "They" have banned shorts because some ******** private club in England doesn't allow them.

There is a "They" somewhere who has banned anything you care to name...

I figure if you got a free post bump for this, I should take advantage of it too.

Now go look up the definition of "anchoring" in the Rules of Golf and reflect on the word "stupid."

They sure do a number on the tees / greens when you get one of those guys who doesn't know how to pick up his feet. That ought to be a hanging offense!

As noted in other threads, it was spikes on clubhouse floors that got them banned at most clubs. I've seen much worse damage from 8-pronged softspikes being dragged across a green than I ever did from good ole steelies.

What the proverbial "they" should do is change the rule & allow the repairing of spike marks on greens, & that would solve the problem.

Many courses ban shorts, some courses don't allow socksthat don't completely cover the ankle.  US courses
If you don't like the conditions of play; don't play.

You think it had anything to do with greens?  Get real man.  Course owners were outlawing them before the USGA said anything solely because rubber vs metal was saving them from having to replace their carpets every year.  If you can save thousands of dollars annually on re-carpeting you would too...just saying.

They wrecked wooden floors and bridges. Saw a lot of people fall down on tiled floors and in the parking lot on rainy days with metal spikes though. A lot of guys go way too long without replacing their cleats no matter what they're made of so those guys can't blame anyone but themselves for lack of traction.
